What should the best tire we use for Season 3 be?

I just thought that the OP needed cleaning up and some updates and fixes, I'm just really bored with nothing to do right now.

And 9:30 AM?! Erm, can we do it at 10:30/12:30 because I'm in PST, and I sleep too much and wake up around 3PM EST.

EDIT - I'm dumb, it was actually PM. Oh well, I still have dinner time at that time.

How would like 10ish work? That's like 7ish your time?

Ya, we're not THAT crazy to do it in the morning... But you wake up at 1pm??! Your day is over before it begins!

I get up 9 my time at the latest. I just can't sleep for that long.

I max our at 10:30 and that's worst case.

And here we go going of topic! Oh well, it's 1:45 in the morning... What does one expect??

So we try maybe Monza tomorrow. Possibly Spa if enough people have it.

I'd pick Spa, but not sure everyone has it. And at Monza, we'll test if the Audi can bring a battle at 455hp, Mazdas with 465hp, and Ferraris with 460hp and 10 less kg. Oh, and the 787B as well (I think).

But if Seth got the Toyota, he should try that out, it's not terribly hard to drive.

I will be testing multiple cars as well.

If the Audi can't catch up on the straights and falls back, I'd say the Audi should get 460-465hp. And with the Ferrari, I recommended 10 less kg because it was destroying me on the straights, but it just had a bit of tire wear. And as for the Mazda, it's just running away on the straights.

We shall try things! And should we disable tuning? Just so that doesn't play a role...

I did get the Minolta today, haven't driven it yet, but I oil changed it and gave it a standard setup with some soft tires. I still think you should allow the Mazda and Jaguar. Just seems like people wrote those cars off without much testing involved in them. I'll try out the Jag and Toyota in these next races, if you don't want it involved, sorry. But I want to show people there are other cars that are just as good. And don't disable tuning. There's no point, driving these cars stock isn't representative of anything.

Exactly. Formula 1 cars don't run stock out of the box, they're tuned for optimal performance. It just affects cornering and straightline speed. I tried a tune which was leaning towards straightline speed and acceleration out of the corners at Tokyo but it didn't even help. Not even with 457hp.

And my Audi's rear steps out even on 75% braking, it's going to kill me in the 1st corner at Daytona.

The point of these races is to fine tune specs for cars, specifically the rx8, 458 and r8. The DP class just needs a check up, and we may play with some specs. But adding cars is out of the equation at this point. I let you race the 787b and was going to add it, but I would like you to race the Toyota first, and give it a decent chance. Let's not use these races for adding tons of new stuff, we need to fine tune what we have already.

We already did, and now you're trying to redo it. I could have won with the Jag the Sauber, or with Toyota and what would happen then? People just decided without even taking a poll of what cars to use. No one wanted to try the other cars. Then I use a Mazda and win a race and come in 2nd, now everyone thinks it's advantaged. I don't hear the Nissan is too fast when Anthony qualifies over a second faster than anyone else. I do hear that the Mazda is too fast though because I won a race where Anthony spun. Maybe I would have won at Tokyo had the Ferrari guy not had 'invisibility issues' with other cars, but in reality it would be even easier with the Sauber. The Nissan drives crazy out of slower turns, but is probably the fastest on the straights. The Toyota I've yet to drive. The Sauber is the easiest IMO and that means the most consistent. The Mazda has low acceleration, but it has a good all around handling and decent consistency, it revs really high so the top speed is up to how you gear it. The Jag has a good top speed too, but it's not so fast around corners, but it's really stable.

I dont think I can make any of the testing. Would be to late for me. I have to get up at 5 every morning. But the Viper I was running was at the OP's specs if anyone wants to try it out.

Would everyone mind posting a new picture of their car with their teammate*? Or if you're using identical cars just post a picture of it if you haven't already. And if you'd like, you can make your own team logo or just base it off from a real-life team and find their logo somewhere and post it here. I'll update the re-vamped OP so Polarbear doesn't have to change it over and over again.

*If you don't have a teammate just post a pic of your car.

If you're basing it off a real life team just post it, say the team's name, and I'll get the banners myself. We'll still need the photos of your cars, though!

Hint: Use Panning mode 3, and set shutter speed to 1/60 for moving shots, and with multiple cars, use 1/250 and focus on the car. And for dimensions, use 16:9 on the camera in GT5. Higher resolution shots.

List of cars that don't need pics taken:
-Sauber
-Viper
-Audi

List of cars that need team names/banners:
-Sauber = banner
-Toyota = banner, name
-Nissan = banner, name
-Ferrari = banner, name
-Camaro = no drivers, banner, name

I'd like to have pics this week so polar wouldn't have to copy/paste and update the OP as much as possible, and I'll also update this list and post it every 1-2 pages to remind you guys about it, and I'll also PM car members on banners/names/pics after Monday next week if they haven't posted pics or team names/banners yet.

Welcome to Season 2 of the Rolex Sports Car Series!

After a successful season 1, we bring you season 2! And it comes with MANY new changes!

  • DP class changes from LMP cars to Group C cars!
  • DP moves from 8 cars to 6, for realism reasons!
  • GT has some new faces, and now has 10 cars!
  • GT now has the Mazda rx8, Dodge Viper ACR and Chevrolet Camaro!
  • For the first time, we will have 2 street courses!
  • The NAEC will actually happen this season!
  • Cautions!

---------------------------------------------------------------

General Information

This is a semi realistic series, modeled after The Rolex Sports Car Series, a North American sports car sereis. Like the real life series, we will have two classes, DP and GT. DP stands for Daytona Prototype, these are represented by Group C cars. The change was made because the Group C cars look more like the real life "DP" cars, as there aren't any DP cars in the game. GT stands for Grand Touring. These cars are production cars turned into racecars! We use the street car version of all the cars, and put every GT Auto aero part on them as possible! This works very well for us, the cars end up looking very close to their real life counterparts!

Dates And Times!

The races will be on Saturdays starting at 6:30 pm eastern US time. Here's a schedule of the days events:

6:30- Room Open

6:30- 7:00- Both Classes Qualifying

7:00- 7:05- Break (Bathroom Break)

7:05- Race Start

8:45- Race Will Definitely Be Done By Then (Maybe a NAEC Race will be a little longer, but not by much)

---------------------------------------------------------------

POINTS:

Due to the differences in car numbers in each class, we will use a slightly modified points system for each class.

DP:

P1- 60 Points
P2- 50 Points
P3- 40 Points
P4- 30 Points
P5- 20 Points
P6- 10 Points

GT:

P1- 100 Points
P2- 90 Points
P3- 80 Points
P4- 70 Points
P5- 60 Points
P6- 50 Points
P7- 40 Points
P8- 30 Points
P9- 20 Points
P10- 10 Points

The GT class winner won't have a advantage, as there arent any championships that mix both DP and GT classes.

CAUTIONS!

picture.php

Hopefully we won't need to use these rules...but.... they're here!

This is our first season using cautions so here are the rules! We will be following the real Rolex caution format, but with a few changes.

We will have two "caution" procedures, one for the NAEC and one for the normal season.

Caution Type 1: NAEC Caution Procedure

- Must involve 2+ cars!

- Cars involved must type in the chat box "caution"

- Once that happens, DP cars will slow down to a speed of 30-40mph

- Lap 1: GT cars will catch up to DP cars (NO PASSING)

- Lap 2: DP cars will pit this lap

- Lap 3: GT cars will pit this lap

- Lap 4: GT cars will catch up to DP cars, race will resume at the end of this lap!

- DP cars will be infront of the GT cars at the restart!

Caution Type 2: Regular Caution Procedure

- Must involve 2+ cars!

- Cars involved must type in the chat box "caution"

- Once that happens, DP cars will slow down to a speed of 30-40mph

- Lap 1: GT cars will catch up to DP cars (NO PASSING)

- Lap 2: BOTH classes will pit in this lap

- Lap 3: Both classes will exit pits and cruise at a speed of about 60mph (~100kph)

- RACE WILL RESUME AFTER YOUR CAR CROSSES THE FINISH LINE

Starts!

Our starts will follow the following procedure:

-DP cars will start on their formation lap at 60 mph (~100 kph)

-GT cars will stay stationary in their grid boxes until DP cars have cleared the first turn

-Both classes will be going 60 mph until the start/finish line

-Race starts at the start/finish line, no passing until then!

The NAEC!

NAEC_Logo_396x222_NEW.jpg

Just like the real life series, we are doing the North American Endurance Championship. The three races that make up this championship will be:

  • Daytona Road Course: 75 laps
  • Indianapolis Road Course: 65 laps
  • Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca: 75 laps
These tracks were chosen because they were in the championship in real life, with the exeption of Watkins Glen. These will be longer "endurance" races, like in real life. There will be a sperate points championship. These races will count to the normal championship, in addition to the NAEC.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Track List!

Pre-Season:

-Daytona Road Course

-Tokyo Route 246

Regular Season!

-Daytona Road Course (NAEC)

-Special Stage Route 5

-Monza (Change Weather)

-Nurburgring GP/F

-Indianapolis Road Course (NAEC)

-Tokyo Route 246

-Circuit De La Sarthe 2009 with Chicanes (Change Weather and Time)

-Fuji Speedway F

-Suzuka (Change Weather)

-Laguna Seca (NAEC)

Hmm, I'm still skeptical of running 465/1085. Though I've started testing out 475/1250. My ballast can't go much higher. I need some kind of stats to compare it with, i.e. lap times, tyre wear, etc.

The reason we are disallowing tuning is that way we take out the Ant who is over a second faster. That way it isn't just the driver or setup. You haven't even driven the Toyota yet, and you claim I haven't tested the 787B. I own the car it is on share. The reason I haven't said anything about the R92 is that it has been speced already, and no one has complained about it being too fast. Last year Ant ran away with it in the TS020. He is just fast. The DS3 is actually a little easier to control a car with than the wheel. It is slower once you get the hang of the wheel, but you don't have to worry about turning the wheel too much and causing oversteer.

We aren't trying to reinvent the wheel, just making sure it is still round. The GT specs aren't all that close apparently. If the 787B gets a restriction, will you switch cars again, or just complain?

I'm not so sure about that.

I use my sensitivity on full (7) for steering, and while turning is quick, you can oversteer quite a lot since your full-locking the stick to one side, especially with LMP cars or cars with high performance specs. Part of the reason my steering sens. is on full is so that when it does oversteer or slide, I can catch it quickly and I'm less likely to lose control in a slide.

Are we doing that big track day today?

Not a track day, another pre-season at 9:30pm EST. Recommended you show up to test car specs and fine-tune your cars.

Previous DS3 user here, I agree on the catching oversteer part. Once I got in the wheel my biggest problem was catching oversteer since I wasn't able to get to both locks in the flick of my thumb. Now you actually have to try and not cause oversteer in the car which in turn, makes you very consistent. And it's also good for the tires. I was catching up to you guys in Tokyo because I was being consistent and pushing my car to it's limit but I wasn't going too hard and causing oversteer every corner thus losing grip.

So have you guys decided on track or tracks to race tonight?

So have you guys decided on track or tracks to race tonight?

I don't think they have, but they're leaning towards Monza or Spa if people have it.

i'm just doing a little surfing and love the rolex series so decided to take a look. has it ever been suggested to have a designated pace car driver for the race?

It has. The problem with that is that we usually cater to filling up all 16 slots in a lobby. That doesn't happen, and generally while people like the idea of a pace car, nobody would really like having to sit in the pits like a duck until a crash happens, only to come out of a few laps. They'd rather race, understandably.

Any news from polar or Mel on which track we're using? And if we're going to do tuning disabled or enabled? The Audis should be running 455hp and the Ferrari should have 1240kg and the RX-8 should have 465hp. We're testing that to see if that'll even up the field.

I'd say either a Monza or Nurburg. We've tested on Mazda and Dodge's home turf, why not do it with the others?

Nurburgring GP/F gets my vote. Not where the Viper and Mazda can get an advantage in the massive straights is there?
