Bought this off my brother a few years to motor around in. Hit two kangaroos and a bird in a week in the VR without damaging it, didn't want to try my luck any further! Cost me...under a grand.
Within a week, I'd given it a quick detail, and tossed the crappy 13 inch tri spoke rims. Picked the new alloys up for a slab of beer, which was nice.
And...the tri spokes.
It was my faithful servant for quite some time. I think I have put on around 120 000 kilometres since I bought it, only servicing it regularly. I changed the timing belt, distributor cap, had to recondition the alternator after it kicked the bucket and replace the computer with a changeover item. Thats all, not too bad for a car with over 300 000 kilometres under its belt. The head hasn't even been off yet.
Just after new years 2011, I was rear ended by a geriatric named Cecil, or Albert. I'm not generalising, he was from NSW on a driving holiday, and according to his licence was born in the 1920's. He tried to claim we stopped too fast.
Needless to say, the car was a repairable write off. After some wrangling, I was offered $1500 and NRMA would take the car, or $1400 and I would keep it.
Needless to say, I kept it, and spent around $400 on repairs, then gave it the worlds dodgiest paint job, just so it was all the one colour.
Putted around like this for a bit before getting sick of it. Figured the car is worth next to nothing now, so I may as well keep it and spend some money on it. Its been far too faithful to just scrap. So I bought a parts car for the princely sum of $150. It was advertised as being lowered, with tinted windows and a sports exhaust, no motor or box. I messgaged the seller, it had a few bits that I wouldn't have minded, such as the tacho dash, rear disks, upspec interior, power mirros and aerial, loom and ECU to suit the 1.8. On further inspection, it had a lot of engine parts too. So I bought it and towed it home. This is it just after it came off the trailer.
Dash swap:
It all works, so thats a bonus.
The parts car about 2 hours after I got it home.
Note the 'lowered' springs. Not Kings, Auroras or Teins, but Makita Superlows!
So thats where I'm at for now. The parts car should be stripped and gone by the end of the week, then it will begin!
