As mentioned previously, it's pretty interesting that Discord couldn't manipulate Fluttershy, and you could make a case for him cheating (more) with Rainbow Dash because he believed her to be similarly unshakeable in her loyalty when it came to her friends.

Anyways, there's only one clear way this will conclude:

After a long, bloody and destructive battle, downhill since it began, a friendless Twilight's magic will finally succumb to Discord's chaos. As she falls to the ground defeated, Twilight will wonder where her friends are, and why her beloved princess was not there to help her.

Well it hooked me on the show.
And I don't think party of one is a good episode for someone that doesn't know the characters all that well.

Party of One features all of the characters in a major role, is completely self-contained, is largely comedic and tells a pretty strong/understandable message. Applebuck Season is just as good in that regard admittedly, but Bitch Rarity and Applejack/Pinkie's very minor role in the proceedings during Sonic Rainboom doesn't give off as good of an impression of half of the cast.

So start with first episode?

Party of One is the 25th episode. Applebuck Season is the 4th. Either one of those would probably be best. Winter Wrap Up (Episode 11) is a good alternative, but the musical in the beginning scares some people away.

First two episodes do a good job of introducing the characters (though no better than the above two, I think), but it portrays the series as something that it really isn't.

I just don't think that starting off with the episode that inspired... You know.. is a good idea in my opinion... And I didn't really like the 1st episode (It nearly put me off the show) I'd recommend number 4 Applebuck Season

Overall view on the first episode; it was enjoyable, yet tinged with darkness thanks in no small part to Anghytgord. I guess it's just as awesome as the first season then, which is good obviously.

And now we have to wait another week for part 2.
