And yet, you did post such content here in both picture and video form, not to mention some of the stuff you linked, and you should realise by now that such images/videos/linked content isn't allowed on this site. Posting something like a Ponibooru image code is okay in many cases, but in most cases it is wise to provide a sufficient warning about the content relating to the image code as well.

Here's the thing: Everyone else in this topic manages to conduct themselves in a way that potential AUP violations aren't remotely an issue. There are occasional slip ups with bad language, but they are good faith mistakes and they are caught pretty quickly.

I use to play the hell out of that game when I was over my friends house. That was before I even had a steam account of my own.



I doubt she'd even play an FPS. She'd probably go for mostly RPGs or anything else involving lots of reading, numbers, and statistics. There's plenty of books to be read in Skyrim. Not joking; I've found about 10 good length books that I've read, and about 20 others I haven't really looked at since I started the game a few hours ago.

I feel like taking this slow and taking in as much information as I can. It's something I've always done in RPGs with a lot of extras.

I was walking across the peak of a mountain on my way to the next quest, looking down at the ground. I noticed a light in the top right corner. Looked up, and I'm sitting here stunned. Auroras; this game has them. It's amazing. Standing over a city with the games magnificently absurd draw distance, while watching these mesmerizing lights and listening to the incredible music and the crazy ambient noise through surround sound is just something I can't adequately describe with words.

So, I read Bailout earlier (no, it's got nothing to do with Greece). I only read a couple of lines before I realised that the guy who wrote this story also wrote Dear Idiot (which was so-so). Bailout on the other hand is much better in my opinion, and I bet you can't read it without AJ's voice popping into your head and staying there for the entire duration of the story.

That would be PES 2. It was actually the first one I ever played way back in 2003, yet all I can remember from that game is Beckham's Mohican.

I've always greatly preferred Hot Fuzz over Shaun of the Dead (how much of that has to do with Timothy Dalton, I'm not sure), but I seem to be in the minority about that.

I've always maintained that Hot Fuzz is better than SotD. I've watched the latter countless times, but there's something about a Vauxhall Astra cop car chase that appeals to me, plus I like the accurate depiction of people from rural Gloucestershire.

Ah. I was thinking something a bit more recent. Dragon Age. Never played it, but the biggest criticism was the copy/paste dungeons.

Just got so much bitching from my friends about it.



I haven't played Oblivion in a very long time, and even then I only completed a little bit before my friend got it back. Never did go out and buy it after that.


Anyway, gotta go spend the next 4 hours freezing my ass off.

It works as it should, there was everything that A precious Rainbow lacked, and while I understand why this wasn't featured on ED

Considering Rocket to Insanity and that other, much more recent one both got featured, I don't.

Is not perfect though, there are some things that I found annoying (Twilight/Luna and Rarity aren't well managed in both fics)

but there are some areas in which the story lacks like the characterizations of the mane six like Rarity and in some extent AppleJack, however these are minor writing issues.

Twilight and Luna both basically act as Mr. Expositions, yes, but I'm curious why you felt that way about Rarity. I thought her role in the two stories was quite good, A Precious Rainbow in particular; having her drop everything and call in as many favours as she could to help the best way she can.


As far as Applejack goes:

Because if something as horrible as the backstory for A Precious Rainbow actually happened, I can see Applejack as being who would be the one that could be relied on more than anyone else to pick up the pieces. Especially when Rainbow Dash is involved. And I feel that way in spite of the obvious canonization problems because I truly feel AJ would do the same thing in canon if it was ever required.

There is also the whole Memorial business which is used as a plot device, and actually is the main problem I found with it because I honestly don't think that it works as an appropriate plot device (Gummy made more sense as plot device)

I think the problem with the memorial is that Dash dropped the subject quite abruptly. She was clearly shattered emotionally even before Luna reported her findings and drove Rainbow even deeper into depression, and I don't think it made sense for her to let it go as easily/readily as she ended up doing. Gummy acted sort of as a Deus Ex Machina to snap Rainbow out of her funk, and I don't think he should have been utilized that way.


As you said here:

Dash was torn up pretty badly about both whether she was to blame for all of it and whether Pinkie deserved to be demonized, and for her to drop the issue so quickly after she was tasked with caring for Gummy just seemed... dumb.

It really is my biggest problem with the story.

I thought that one was quite interesting. I... I really don't know what to make of it.

On the one hand, I do think that it is a logical evolution of all the crap that happened between them and that it flows naturally from that. Maybe not the most appropriate train of events, but I do think that it makes sense from the emotional/psychological point of view.
On the other hand, I have to seriously question the author's attempt to shoehorn the subplot into the backstory of Cupcakes/A Precious Rainbow, because I don't think it was necessary or that it works; and it also dilutes Rainbow and AJ's "feelings" for each other by turning it into another "they loved each other all along" story. Ordinarily I don't have any problem with that (because AppleDash), but I think the story would have been far stronger without the retcon because it torpedoes a lot of character development for no real reason.



As far as the sorta-cloppiness goes... I don't know what to think. I really don't. I can see why the author did it (as a sort of interpersonal trust yardstick between the two), and it makes Rainbow's nightmare about Pinkie right after much more poignant than it would have been otherwise; but I'm having difficulty wrapping my mind around the concept that such a thing could be of tangible benefit to the story and not just clop material. I don't think it was the latter, but I feel like I have to justify to myself why it wasn't.

And Of the Fair and Fall After (Spike reflects a bit on growing up), Variables (Spike talks to a rock), and A Cup of Joe (Pony Joe suffers from PTSD), and The Silent Shore (Twilight, AJ and Dash live through an ancient ghost story); which were all fantastic; which means I have to read that one.



I really don't know what happened that led him to write Dear Idiot, because it sticks out like a sore thumb compared to everything else he's written.

Apart from Bailout and Dear Idiot, I've only read Variables (pretty good) and A Cup of Joe (I still didn't think part 1 was that great really, but I'm considering reading part 2 at some point). Out of those stories, I reckon Bailout comes out on top just ahead of Variables.
