Yeah that does seem like it would have been a "dream set-up". Maybe when the wheel gets PC drivers they could review it as such.


One huge gap in your post, since it seems you want to cover ALL pluses and minuses in wheel setups, is the lack of support for 360 owners. This needed to be noted in your summary as it's very important to quite a few of us here. Flipping between two wheels is not practical for some and just a plain pain in the ass for all.

It's a price comparison with GT5 in mind.

360 owners have little to think, currently only Fanatec makes compatible force feedback wheels.
 
Very good info there. Seems like the company "get's it". With these price points companies have to know that they have to leave room for people to do some unique things with their setups.

Therein lies the problem however. When coming into the racing scene very little info was known to me about wheels. I've posted at sites letting it be known that I race on both platforms (quite a while back) and all people seem to know at the time was Logitech. Come to find out there were more options on the market. Fortunately for me the group I race with was more knowledgeable than I. I just wish when doing these kinds of "comparisons" that all info be accounted for that way people that are in my situation will be fully armed with information. I've gotten quite a few PM's in the past year and change asking (I guess they didn't want to be embarrassed in the main threads) if my wheel indeed works with both 360 and PS3. I guess you can say that I'm just doing my part for the growing community ;)
 
As expected, this wheel looks like it has a number of points that makes it easily worth the price. The one thing that stops me from ordering one right away is the lack of leather or alcantara on the wheel rim. Plastic/rubber simply doesn't cut it at this level. I'll hold off and see if that rather obvious point is addressed by TM in the near future.

I think this wheel is a fail.
1) no shifter
2) only 30cm in diameter
3) only works for gt5.

#1 and #2 are acceptable for a $150 unit, but not for something that will run to $750 when you add tax.

Nice! Are you getting it upon release? I seem to remember you had a Fanatec wheel but I don't remember if you had the ClubSport pedals. I'd love to hear your comparison of the difference in feel. If you're brave enough, maybe you can take a peek inside the pedal box to see what sort of sensors or pots it uses.

It looks like a pretty serious wheel for $600, and that the focus was more on the wheel than the pedals. I guess even at $600 there still needed to be some compromises, but then if it has the feel of an ECCI FFB wheel for 1/4 the price, that's pretty impressive. Given the upgradeable and moddable nature of the T500RS, it'll be interesting to see if the community responds. Perhaps all-in, you can wind up with an amazing wheel/pedal/shifter combo, with mods, for $1000.
 
DJ, I disagree with the rubber point, (although this wheel is detatchable so you can replace it with a Momo or something). I use a rubber Fanatec wheel (TPE) and. although it can give blisters it gives you a race feeling that you've got full grip. Not that the wheel is massaging your hand.

The rubber on the T500RS looks like the one on the DFGT, padded. So you get the extra feel and it doesn't give you blisters.
 
In the video when he mentions the red/green button I thought he was going to surprise us all and say the green means it works with the 360. lol. I got that "whommp whommp whommmmmmp" feeling when he said it was just for the pedals.

It was exactly why I compared it to one without X360 support to give the most like for like comparison. If people want X360 support then it's obvious this wheel isn't for them. My circumstances are different owning other wheels already and deciding to order this based on it's own merits and it being the best wheel for GT5.

Some people forget that it is with GT5 in mind they are interested in this.

I think in your case Kikie its not so much the difference in pedals is what you should focus on but if the improvements the wheel brings are worth the cost of upgrading and if anything maybe the issue of losing the shifter at this moment in time.

I missed that part of your post and you're right. Another positive feature about this wheel is the official GT5 support, which makes it possible to remap all the buttons which isn't possible with the G27.

I'm still going to wait for reviews, pc driver release and support for all future pc and PS3 games. Than I can decide what I want. Problem is my very low monthly income. :ouch:

I hear you. I'll see if I can find a shop where I can get a hands on test, but even if the rubber proves functional, I'd miss the feeling of leather or alcantara :dopey:

Well, I've bitten the bullet and placed a pre-order with Amazon and also cancelled my GT2 order. I know Fanatec users will probably think I'm mad and I was really looking forward to trying the GT2 and clubsports but I feel right now the T500 is the way to go for me.

The niggling faults people have with fanatecs worry me as I don't have the luxury of a back up wheel and since selling my DFGT I haven't been able to go back to using a controller. I don't want to be one of the unlucky ones and end up with a faulty wheel or pedals and have to wait even longer to get back into GT!!

When Forza 4 releases I think that'll be the time for me to buy a Fanatec as a second wheel. In the mean time I have a few bits to sell so if any UK gt planet users are interested in a PS3 Dongle, Grey Club Sport pedals, CSP tuning kit or Rennsport pedal stopper please message me. They'll end up on eBay if there's no interest.

Hopefully there is some way to connect another set of pedals separately. I would love to use this wheel with my clubsports. And I would hate to have and switch my pedal setup. The ISR video seems to show a ps2 connector for the pedals and that is a good thing for sure as the clubsports use the same connector.

whats the over under on days from release that someone gets a finger mangled between that wheel and shifter? i think that why companies do the shifteres attached to steering column.... wheel looks really nice though. i think it will be offered from $399.99-$449.99 from retailers like amazon almost immediately and have good success at that price. its just not going to do well at $599.99. my 2 cents. other than the last 6 weeks or so, the G27 is never $299.99. its usually like $209.99.

I think we will see something like this... MSRP of $600 I hope won't last long... at $399 without shifter it's still quite tempting and if it every ships with a good shifter for $399 I think it would make it a very good value against the G27 (even if G27 got full support in GT5) even at the $200 price point we saw the G27 sell at for a long time... $100 for DFGT, $200 for G27 or $400 for T500 with shifter, I could see a really tough decision there.

People are also complaining about the price, but ISR have just compared the wheel to some very very expensive hardware in the Frex and ECi stuff. This would seem to make it a bargain.

This assumes you think the Frex and ECi are reasonable values... compared then yes this is a bargain.

However if you felt the Frex and ECi were way overpriced, this might simply be a less overpriced option rather than a bargain.

Hi Stega, HNY to you as well friend.

It would be a nice option but I doubt it. Check the video again as from what I seen the pedals use a telephone/square type connection the same as say the Microsoft wheel uses. The cable you refer to seems to be the PSU cable and with 4 pins common on old 3.5 USB Harddrive Caddies, just looks like a PS2 type cable.

Who knows though if a mod cant be done, lets wait and see but their may be some issues that prevent it and not just down to cables.

Just saw the YouTube clip & severely disappointed it doesn't have leather on the wheel especially since it's $600 USD!!! 👎 Even the G27 has real leather, sigh..

Yeah but the G27 wheel is rock hard under that leather and using it for a long session is quite fatiguing on your hands.
 
I am definitely interested to see if there are interchangable, custom option replacement wheels. Good opportunity for some licensing to milk $$$. Momo, etc.
 
I wonder how many of you actual experience the nixim mod which G25/27 pedals was not design with it in mind. Now these pedals are designed with the mod in mind which would be better. The only thing CSP has that these pedals don't is a load cell. It's looks more adjustable than CSP. In my experience the nixim mod works just as well as CSP load cell. Of course there is some differences yet there are more differences between CSP load cell and real brakes.
Now I'm not hung up on what is being used as long it's simulates somethings close to real brake no matter if it's by load cell, pressure sensor (prefect pedal) or by springs and rubber (nixim mod)

I not only adjust the knob but used the tuning kit as well. After I set the knob I don't fool with it but adjust the software instead. That way all the adjustments are saved with the software instead of continue readjusting the wheel/brakes all the time with different games.

Bit concerned about the buttons and how it is done.
The wheel seems to have 3x sets of bolts/screws at the back that attach the wheel centre to the wheel rim.

Guessing here but possibly the metal centre easily disconnects the cables for the buttons and allows the centre to detach then go on top of a new wheel.

Anyone else got an idea to how it may work?
