I'm a pretty casual browser / poster, but I've seen quite a few times recently folks whining about not being able to adjust the tire pressures.

I just wanted to say you folks are nuts

Why exactly? Tire pressures are one of the most important things in tuning a car to go fast around a track.

You people say everything is the most important when you don't have it.

Tyre pressure can massively effect the way the car drives, and how it slides.

Is this a troll or is the OP really that clueless?

really... :indiff:

But different kind of tires are geared more towards the adjustment aspect than the tire pressure of a car.

Are you really this much of an elitist? I haven't even been here that long but the number of times I've seen you pointlessly correcting and demeaning people is crazy. Poor self-image?

Having tyre temperature indicators but having no way to adjust tyre pressures is borderline retarded.

To make a thread saying it's not a big deal means that either

A) OP is a troll or
B) OP has no idea about car setup

If that makes me an elitest then goddamn, elitism FTW!

he should be banned for saying something like that.. lol

I think that the OP was not saying that tire pressure should not in the game, but rather that it's silly to complain about it not being in.

GT5 offers a massive amount of features, and I think the OP's attitude, which mirrors my own, is that GT5 is giving you the moon, but you guys want Mars.
Everything that happens in real life should be in, but it's not all going to be in. There are technical and design limitations, both to the PS3 and to GT5's engine.
Tire pressure specifically would offer a huge variable into the game, and maybe the physics engine couldn't handle another variable, or couldn't apply it accurately.

Besides, what percentage of GT5 players are actually going to care about setting up tire pressure? I'd bet the number is less than 1%.
So there's really no particular reason to add it except to please the few who actually really care.

It's a good idea for GT6 though.

I think this sums up OP's post pretty dam well.

You hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head :D

The only folks that are going to get all upsetted about this thread are the types of crazy folks that get all upsetted about not being able to add a couple pounds of pressure to the right rear tire.

Once they add pressure in GT6, it'll be "I absolutely demand they list the pressure in bar instead of psi" or "I need to know how much the pressure fluctuates when they get hot."

And I think the point of the tire temp thing is to show you how much wear you're putting on your tires, not really how much grip, etc, is in them. I know I use it if I'm trying to go another couple laps on some iffy tires.

GT5 has less features than GT4(allot less content too), well ones that people actually care about, in many ways it's a mahoosive step in the wrong direction.

But you have to remember that the 1st GT on any platform is weak in content but have amazing features. GT1, GT3 were perfect examples. Don't worry man, GT6 will definitely blow your brains out in content.

As someone who has dabbled in racing in real life....tire pressure is THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect of adjusting ANY car for racing. Whether it be for track day, autocross, SCCA, or professional series. Its the only part of the car that touches the road.

People always want more, even if the ideas are stupid themselves. Tire pressure is strange to want at this point. Why can't people just let some thing go. Game has issues, but instead of all that, they're talking about tire pressure. Priorities anyone?

That may be, but maybe PD were simply unable to implement it due to time or technical constraints.

And if tire pressure is so important to you, why don't you go and play Forza? It's an excellent game as well, and if I recall correctly, it has adjustments for this. If tire pressure is so vital then surely Forza must be a much better game for having it. But the reason we all play GT5 is not that it is flawless, but because its greatness makes up for them.

I honestly hope you are trolling, otherwise it would be pretty sad.

Tire pressure adjustment is the most basic and essential aspect in any vehicle (not just cars) with pneumatic tires, racing or not; it is actually critical in race. Tire pressure IS the gate keeper of performance, as it directly affect how the tire will behave in different road conditions, setting, track and ambient temperature; hence had an direct impact in the mother of all vehicle performance, traction.

Any "game" that cannot let you adjust tire pressure should never in any form or shape be refer to as a "simulator".

Period.

Personally I honestly hope it is something just need to be updated, and not an oversight from the developer. As I read on some article, they actually spend some time on programming tire behavior model.

Nope I'd use tyre pressure to make my tyres come on earlier because most of the races are 3 laps - especially online. I could also drop the pressures in the longer races because the tyres overheat wayyyyy to quickly in this game if you have even the smallest slide. It's too exaggerated. They never seem to lose temperature either once you get some heat into them.

Also, this 'simulator' doesn't tell me which part of the tyre is getting hot which is annoying for adjusting camber while at the same time it won't let me adjust tyre pressures, roll centre, castor, individual gear ratios, rim size, blah blah blah. It's a really poor effort from PD. Those who aren't fussed about it aren't the quick guys and more suited to an arcade racer like NFS or something tbh.

Oh noes I'm being an elitist again...

Maybe when you care so much for the intricacies you should consider the Guitar Hero standpoint of "If you're so good, buy a Goddamn Guitar."

I do race IRL...

This game is lacking some tuning options besides tire pressure. The main ones for me are individual gear ratios (hopefully they can update this later), and camber settings for EACH tire (probably wont update). And one feature i want is live telemetry so I can see what I need to adjust as i'm driving.

Honestly, when you go out and buy a game that has "The Real Driving Simulator" printed on the front of it, I'm pretty sure that opens up the door for a hell of a lot of complaints when the game turns out to be unrealistic in certain ways. I completely agree with "tire pressuer whiners", as the OP refers to them. It really is a totally valid complaint. We should still consider the priority in which update released but nontheless it should be addressed. Afterall, we are in the ass end of 2010, people really expect a lot out of games these days. Despite all the fun im having with GT5, im trying to stay realistic about things and I think a lot of people will agree with me in saying that for a game that was released in Q4 of 2010, it is slightly subpar.

I'm 100% with you. I also race for real when finances let me pay for gas/tires/repairs and it just seems like a letdown...

The game punishes pushing too hard waayy too much. Tires in real life do cool down again after being abused, but not in the game...at least not near quick enough.

I don't even feel that stuff is really all that intricate. If this is to be a SIM, it needs those more advanced options.

Guys calm down,
yes tire preassure is really important in RL, thats without question.
But you have to see the bigger picture here. GT5 is a mass market product. And I guess 99.9% of all gamers would be completly frustrated with the game if something like tyre preassure would be realisticly simulated, cause they are neither mechanics nor real race drivers in RL. They would never stand a chance in this game to compete with "carmaniacs".
If you really need a complete simulation of all physics and mechanics which influence a racing car, you better get your bank to give you a huge loan, cause this type of simulators are way above the 7 figure mark and are way over the head, both financially and skillwise, a normal player can handle.
GT5 has flaws, which dearly need fixing, but tire preassure and such mechanics are way down the fixing list in my eyes.
