I wish I could run LFS and the like but I can't afford a decent PC. So.. A) You're wrong and B) Tyre pressures are astronomically important to a driving simulator which is what GT5 claims to be. I'm severely disappointed in PD's "vision" for this game.

LFS has VERY low requirements. It runs well on my 2005 laptop :X

Of course I understand the concept of GT5.

It is claiming to be the real driving simulator so those casual gamers who turns on SRF whenever something challenging shows up can feel superior although they can't tell what good physics really is.

My current PC is over 10 years old. It's so bad I use my ps3 to browse the web.

Not unless you have accurate track temperature and condition, exact weight of the car, detailed information of the compound and how it wears off and crap load of other info that cannot and will not be implemented in GT. Not with PD's current pace of improvements.

false?

Tire pressure is the first thing you change, even if you are an amateur with no telemetry equipment, you can use it to control balance, bump riding ability and response out of the bet.

for further use we indeed need more info, like inner/outter tire surface temp. (without that my camber setting is just guesswork so far)

Well, tyre pressure effects grip, tyre wear, speed, fuel consumtion, etc. So in my eyes it is pretty darn important. Especially in a DRIVING SIMULATOR. For most people the tyre pressure is the only adjustment they can do to their car in real life, for changing the settings.

GT5 is meant for the enthusiast. The nitpicking threads and requests may be too much around, but GT5 lacks of some substancial things in many parts.

That we cant change the tyre size, tyre wide, wheel size and tyre pressure, shows me that PD didnt included variable tyre physics. It does look like they did fixed physics for each compound.

With tire pressure it's essential to also have detailed tire temperatures (at least for the inner, central and outer side of each wheel), so that camber adjustments would make sense too.
Camber and tire pressure after all, are in the end adjustments to make tire temperatures, and therefore grip, and therefore wear, even.

I think you mean the real tuning simulator.

Like someone already pointed out, you could change the tire pressure in Shift so changing tire pressure doesn't mean a game is a sim or not. The things is everyone has the exact same limitation so it's no big deal.

Shift was more like a flawed sim but still an amazing game :). There were many elements that were right in Shift. Like adjustable tire pressure. You could alter the balance of your car (under/oversteer) just by adjusting front/rear tire pressure. And there were many cars in Shift that could be fine tuned and become great drives. :)

I am afraid that the tire simulation in GT5 doesn't take into consideration tire pressure. And PD to make up for this serious omission provided us with so many different tire compounds. It's a shame we can't adjust tire pressure but GT5 is still a great game and it feels realistic and satisfying.

Of course I may be wrong. It would be great if PD allowed us with a future patch to adjust tire pressure (highly unlikely). Or they could release some "Developer Diaries" like other game studios do and explain in depth about their tire model, what goes into simulating different cars etc. Now that would be a great use of Gran Turismo TV! 💡

Tire Pressure Adjustments are a glaring omission in GT5.

Shameful.

All of these features were present in NFS Porsche. The accident damage wasn't the greatest visually, but I loved how the damaged cars showed up in the Used car lot. Tire pressure adjustment was a big help in getting those high powered cars to slide around the corners. It would be nice to have especially when trying to match the "typical opponents" and keep racing close. Trying to win by a few tenths instead of tens of seconds.

We would need some info on track temp and ambient temp if this feature was to work as per real world.

GT5 can not even tell us if it is sunny or wet before a race. We would have to have accurate weather forecasting.

Would it even work? In GT5 Racing soft give better grip in the wet than full wets.

Yes! Track temp and ambient would be nice and would also make the endurance races a little more interesting!

When Stirling Moss made a comeback to race Audi touring cars alongside Martin Brundle, one of his mechanics said later:
"He was always banging on about tyre pressures - a legacy of his era when there wasn't much else to adjust. In the end we just used to lean over by the wheel and go: Hiiiiissssss!" :)

Actually not in the end.
You'd want to constantly recheck those whilst changing a setup according to a track. Race setups in real life are researched on the practice days before a race.
Because if you change certain amounts in the caster for example, you'd want to readjust the camber and pressure to again have the best amounts.

Here is an example of a guide i always used to setup my cars in differents simulators.
It was meant for GTR2 but it can be used on any good sim, and is based on how alot of teams adjust step by step, in real life, until they find the setup they need.

Very interesting!
