Got the CD today, it's really good I must say...the CD case is weird though, it's got eye glasses on it.

Just got the CD for $9.99 at best buy 👍

They said they sold 60 copies already when I got there at 7PM

Well, I went to the Tool show last night at the Paramount theater in Seattle. They played for 2 hours, and played songs off of 3 different albums. The tracklist was as follows:

Stinkfist
Sober
Aenima
46 and 2
Lateralus
Schism
The Pot
Vicarious
Rosetta Stoned (which was amazing!)
Jambi

(although, not in this order)

They played some other songs too, but I can't recall them at the moment (still a bit tired)...

For those of you that can't get tickets for these small venue shows (which will be most of you) don't fret, they will be back around at the end of summer for the arena shows...

Great show... Looking forward to the big venue show...

Now everyone go buy the album!!!...

;)

Just got the album; haven't listened to it yet. However, this must be one of the coolest CD packages ever made :)

Edit: Listening....this is why we love TOOL :)👍

its a great album
ive had it for over a week now and each time i listen to it it sounds better
especially vicarious, jambi, the pot
also picked up the schism dvd at the same time
how good is the artwork inside the cover!

I was listening to the album last night while I was driving for quite some distance and I must say the rythems are trippy and hypnotic. I kinda zoned out while listen for a while and before I knew 10 minutes had past...weird. But I almost want to say Tool is like the modern day Pink Floyd.

Perhaps... Perhaps not... Different styles all together...

AS for the new album. I find it a bit like Lateralus in some parts... Anyone else. There was one part in one song (sorry, just got it) sounded like Skism at the begining. There were a few other parts that kind of made me stop and go "Hmmm, I've kind of heard this before". I wonder if there was a reason for that, as I never take coincidences from this band at face value... More on this later...

Actually, The new album has elements of Undertow, Aenima, and Lateralus... It's funny you noticed the Lateralus parts, but not the most prominent, "undertow"... The guitar, and drum work, is closer to Undertow, and Aenima, in the heavier, or more energetic sections, even spilling into the more melodic sections... However, Lateralus does make it's presence known, in "Right in Two", "Wings for Marie", "10,000 Days", and a few other instances...

In a recent interview, Adam Jones (bassist) talked about the idea for the new album. They wanted the instruments to be more in the foreground, and the vocals to be like another instrument, instead of being so prominent... They wanted the guitar and drum work to be heavier (which it is in some parts) than it has been before. Now, most of the vocals do not mirror this, and I believe there is a very good reason for this (a few really)... One of which being the dichotomy of this album, between love and death, which seems to be mirrored in the music/vocals... The music in some parts is darker and heavier than ever before, but the vocals are more subdued and "pretty" than they have been before... Of course, there is much more to it than that, but it's a good place to start...

If you want to hear the heavier parts, for comparison, check these out:

Rosetta Stoned
Last bits of Right in Two
Parts of Jambi
and most of The Pot

When the music really kicks in, on "The Pot", the "undertow" sound is immediately eveident (music, not vocals), as it is with the last section of "Right in Two", among other parts...

All in all, I think the new album is a fantastic mix of the 3 major albums... I just wish there were a few more songs, or maybe less of the intermission songs... However, those intermission songs are there for a good reason, and serve as pieces of the puzzle... The CD case has a few more pieces of that puzzle... The four pictures of the band members (stereoscopic) contain elements that help to explain the story, but that's about all I'll say...

I'm sure it will be a few years until people really figure it out, not unlike Lateralus, which wasn't really figured out until the last couple years, and it still contains a lot of mysterious elements, yet to be discovered...

Gotta love Tool...

come on, spill the beans

Loving the bass on The Pot, I think I'll buy a cheap bass guitar simply for learning that tune 👍 [edit] Sweet, mxtabs already has it tabbed :D

Had to retune the stereo system in my car for this album though, wasn't clear enough in the mid range but after that .... crank it up!

Agreed 👍 I had to listen to Lateralus many, many times to really figure it out and appreciate the artistry of it. I'd say Aenima was more straightforward, but had very bizzare pieces to it as well. 10,000 Days is definitely very mysterious, even by their standards :)

Finally got the album. Man, I just can't get over how diverse they are. I can hear traces of previous albums, but as with all their albums, its totally unique. I really like the Wings epic.

And am I the only one having trouble getting those eye-glasses things to focus? Or am supposed to look at all the pictures blurred?

They work fine at the distance they are, close-up and using one eye of course.

Did you ever do those Magic Eye things? It's sort of the same deal. You have to play with your eyes a little bit to get it to work, but when you do, it's pretty cool. The pictures of the band are the easiest to focus, so start with those.

Aenima is a lot more mysteries than you might think. It has yet to be fully figured out. 10,000 Days is pretty straightforward on the surface, in my opinion. All I did was a small amount of research, on the song names, and I had half of it figured out, before I had even heard the album. I'm actually suprised how much I had right. Such was not the case, with Lateralus, and Aenima. Although, I think there is a lot of symbolism, and smoke and mirrors on this new album, making us believe it's something it's not, to further flesh out the overall idea... Only time will tell for sure...

Agreed... I love both of the epics... Wings for Marie/10,000 Days, and Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned... Wings for Marie/10,000 Days has some of the most beautiful vocal changeups I have ever heard. Especially on the 10,000 Days section. Rosetta Stoned has some of the heaviest guitar/bass/drum work on the entire album. They openned their last show (where I was present) with Rosetta Stoned, and it was a helluva way to open the show...

For those of you that don't know... The album title "10,000 Days" is in reference to Maynard's Mother Judith Marie Keenan, who had a powerful stroke that left her paralyzed for 27 years, which is roughly 10,000 days, hence the title... The epic "Wings for Marie/10,000 Days" is all about his mothers last 27 years on earth. So, keep that in mind when listenning to the song...

And am I the only one having trouble getting those eye-glasses things to focus? Or am supposed to look at all the pictures blurred?

You have to line it up just right, and then just stare at it, moving your eyes aroiund a bit, slowly (focussing on individual items in the pic), until all at once, it will just start to work. It took me a few tries... I'm terrible at those magic eye things... I have never been able to get them to work... So, if I can do it, you can do it... The idea, is to get your eyes to converge so the two images are made one, causing a 3D effect...

First of all, Adam Jones = guitar, Justin Chancellor = bass. Paul d'Amour was the former bassist.

I think this CD is absolutely fantastic. My expectations have been fully lived up to. 'Jambi' and 'Rosetta Stoned' are a few of my favorites, but '10,000 Days' is also excellent. I really can't stop listening to it.

Don't cheap out. If you want to play Tool, you have to get a decent bass. It's worth it, though. Playing the bass tracks of Tool songs is infinitely rewarding (and gives you early-onset arthritis :))

i look through them at a distance then gradually bring them closer

OOoops... You're absolutely correct... They both play both instruments, but you are correct about their primary functions within the band... Talk about a dislexic moment... I had the faces in my head, and turned the names around, for some odd reason... That gets a big :banghead: for me...

Rosetta Stoned was absolutely unbelievable live... The energy of the song was magnetic...

I think after several listens, I can safely say this is my favorite Tool album. They surely improved over the years.

Well, after finally driving around with it in my car for a bit, I can safetly say these things about the album.

First off, my subs absolutely love this album, by far the greatest orgy of sound Tool has ever released. I'm glad I bought it, as I can't see any MP3 being able to carry over all the sounds in CD quality, which could really change the way the songs were made to be heard to the listener. For anyone still debating it, this is definitly a buy instead of burn CD.

Second, amazing cover, and maybe one of the greatest CD cases ever created. My girlfriend can't see it properly, but I can't get enough of looking through the glasses at the amazing 3D pictures. The way its almost presented as an old movie is amazing, and whoever came up with the idea deserves a pat on the back. 👍

Lastly, i'd just like to say this CD is almost exactly what I was hoping for, and basically what I presumed from the cover. A large mix of styles ranging from Undertow through to Lateralus, with sprinkles of APC mixed in. Although it does get a little soft at times, the CD flows like a river when heard from start to end it. Although I can't say its my favorite Tool album, it definitly made the 5 year wait seem worth it. Great album, and I can't wait to see them on tour. Well done Tool. :) 👍

I just bougth the album and it's fantastic! Great songs and one of the best ideas for the cover! (the lenses and the 3D pictures are great!) I'll listen only to that album in the next weeks, but I want to listen to the new RHCP album too......(to much new CD's at the time)

Some people have found out that you need to put Wings For Marie (Part1) behind Viginti Tres and then put 10,000 (prt 2) underneath those 2 songs. It should become one full song.

I thought I already posted this up with links, to the source. I basically found it out while messing around and reading on www.songmeanings.com on Viginti Tres. But I clicked away this page before posting my message...so now I don't have the original hint/tip-post for this anymore, sorry.

It's supposed to be beautifull but I think I failed in putting the 3 songs into one. If someone gets a perfect new song out of it please upload the combined songs and give the link here thanks:)

In theory, they might go together, but I tried it and it doesn't work. Part 1 and Part 2 are in slightly different tempos. The endings to both songs are identical, but it's impossible to align them properly. If you line them up in one spot, they're out of synch somewhere else.

I think the songs are great just by themselves anyway :)
