a yes! 2 guyz had this in online lounge in eiger, just blocking the road!
impossible to get through!

I think this is a bit of a troll car. Pretty much an Le mans racer in street trim

I already knew about the 2J and was able to kick it's ass in the historic racing cup in a spec mode with my tuned corvette c2 z06 race car. I had to use my own 2J to beat the AI one in B Spec mode due to the B Spec drivers not being as good as me.

The X2010, X2011, & Jay Leno Tank Car are the other cars I consider as troll cars in GT5. That's probably why I never use my red bull x1s in online racing unless every other car is a x1.

That car never managed to troll me, instead, I trolled it with my B-Spec driver in a Stage-2-turbocharged Toyota 7 around Cote d' Azur, pulling out a 5-second lead (or possibly even more) :D

It's a good car, so good it ran 3 or 4 times before being banned! It's not unbeatable and if people or AIs want to run it I have no issues. I have a couple in my garage and 3 2Ds which I much prefer to drive!

Chaparral built some interesting cars, there was an open sports car with moving rear wing which gave air braking as well as downforce in the corners.

IMHO they all deserve an honourable mention in any History of sports cars and a place in the game.

Okay, am I reading this right?

Now we have "troll-cars"? What kind of derail of automotive history and spectacular achievements of people who created those vehicles - which are now virtually represented in games - is this?

Troll Car? Really? This "4Chan mentality" plague is repulsive.

Genius mechanists, engineers and various specialists invested their lives, education and talent to create some of the finest machines ever crafted in the history of the automotive industry. Generations praised their work, admired their accomplishments and celebrated the very existence of those machines.

Chaparral 2J was a damn masterpiece 40 years (yes, 40 years) ago, same it is now. It is one of the most unique and most spectacular racing-vehicle ever created when seen in context of the time it was made and outlook of the state of the industry.

Now we have a chance to get a small, small, small feel of superiority of such creations and put them in competition with other vehicles. Some of their unique solutions represented in virtual form allows them to be competitive with cars of today.

And that is *trolling*?

Mentality like that should stop, really. At least here. It is severely destroying the true essence of GTPlanet, day by day. Slowly, but it is happening. It managed to make a place made for love, respect and enjoyment in the spectacular universe of the automotive industry, automobiles and racing into a place where the Chaparral 2J is called a *trollmobile* and nobody sees a problem about it.

Why are you people doing this? I am really intrigued?

Like cars, buy car game, see weird white fridge on wheels, goes very fast, can't compute, therefor trollmobile.

Like cars, buy car game, see weird cigar-shaped metal thing with talkshow host name being misused by trolls, therefor trollmobile.

No context, that's what happening.

^THIS. The Chaparral 2J was genius, they were the only guys who could hold a candle to the McLaren's in Can-Am, but in this game the car isn't unbeatable, there is a little car called the Toyota 7 which clears the floor with the Chaparral, but in no way is it a troll-car, nor is the Nissan 390. They are cars born out of the necessity to be fast and when you call them 'troll-cars' you spit in the face of all those mechanics, designers, engineers, technicians, aerodynamicists, directors and drivers who put the 24/7 working weeks into getting those cars made.

Absolutely. Gran Turismo 5 is as much a history of cars and racing as it is a game. We would do well to remember that when comparing cars. Some cars and some drivers are/were the fastest at their time. There is a hierarchy to almost everything in life. Analog made an excellent point that context is lost.

I would agree if you didn't alter my words to your liking, the Toyota 7 is a faster car regardless of the tune because of it's straight-line speed and lightness, with the right driver it can keep up with LMPs.

Agreed ...but if I was a McLaren driver in Can-Am I would probably consider it a trollcar ..and so would my mechanics, engineers, crew etc. I do not suppose you guys are suggesting that the people who were being cleaned up by the 2J in Can-Am were supposed to sit back and admire engineering perfection at work?

And this is exactly what PD has done to us. By making the Historic B-Spec race, and the American Championship B-Spec race so frustrating they have inadvertently turned us into the McLaren drivers that used to get cleaned up by this "masterpiece" of engineering. Yes I know ...its only a game but its hard to take the "masterpiece" position as you press the "Pace Up" button for the hundredth time in the hope of Bob actually winning this race on the first two attempts or so.

Anyway ...its just a game and I agree with you ...engineering genius should be appreciated. But you have to appreciate that its hard to grow a sense of respect and awe when your Bob is getting beat up by this thing and all you want to do is get to level 40.

This response is exactly why I specified "with the right tune/driver." I try to focus on the solution not the problem. Here's how I look at it:
Problem=2J is faster by default in Historic Cup Race.
Solution(s)=Pick an appropriate car and tune which will defeat the 2J. There are multiple cars which have been proven by many to defeat the 2J in the Historic Race Car Cup. The Toyota 7 was mentioned so I responded with my viewpoint and experience.

If you hadn't noticed, GT5 follows this general method throughout: If the car you're using is not winning the race, change cars, tune the current one or improve driver skill. This applies in A-spec, B-spec, etc.

Yup ...and that is the problem right there. I only know of one car that can beat it fairly comfortable in the Historic Cup and that's the Toyota 7. Its what I used in A and B-Spec. And that's my gripe ...why can I not use the vintage Jaguar race car in B-Spec? Or the old Ford LM race car? Because they do not stand a chance.

So because only one car can beat it "with a good tune" I should appreciate the presence of the 2J in this race series? Methinks not. Its cars like this that render other cars in the game useless. If PD had given us its natual comepetitors from back in the day, and included the Can-Am series, than i might have started to appreciate the "context" you guys speak of.

Both the Veyron and 2J are two of the biggest technological achievements of their time ( I still don't know how in the world Buggati put that much horsepower in a 4WD car). I really wouldn't call them troll cars. Now, the Tank car? That's a troll car.

I troll with my drift tuned Honda Odyssey lol. I have made many a drifter lose control bc they cant believe the soccer mom is drifting right behind them.

I'm sorry, which part of:

Did you not read?

Sure, PD could add alot to the game. However, this is a highly inflammatory topic of debate which I don't care to discuss in this forum in any capacity anymore. The point was made very clearly that multiple cars can defeat the
2J.

You now only refer to its context as in the context of usability (and thereby the usability of other cars) in the game.
Sure, it's superior to other classic racecars in the game and it being mixed in with those other AI cars makes that these events are flawed, something which adding other period Can-Am cars wouldn't really solve as it was superior to those too.

It would indeed be better to race cars from the same series against each other but the car roster being severely limited is to blame for that (or they should just stick with multiple examples of the same cars), not including this iconic machine, which I love is included for the sole reason it's so much fun to drive, especially after it received cockpit view.
GT5's whole game structure is flawed and I never considered most events to be convincing nor much fun, removing the 2J won't solve that.
