I first drove this track when I played GT Concept, which was only last year :guilty: , and to be honest I haven't had much time driving it in GT4, and I'm suprised that noone has mentioned Autumn Ring Reverse as a major drift venue.

I've found that it has a great combination of corners for drifting and another plus is that the replays are awesome, providing great camera angles throughout the track.

When I attack this course the aim is to chain as many corners as possible, but because of the long strainghts (the back straight isn't that long but I don't like doing "fishies" down the straights) I divide the course into two sections.

From the left hand kink at the beginning I can chain every corner till I hit the back straight. So I drift left then quickly right into turns 1 and 2 "S's" (or sometimes I just turn in normally and just start drifting from turn 2 which is a right). Then, drift left at turn 3 and feint to the right a little in order to keep the rear slipping and hold a nice single drift into the double left at the top of the hill.

Next it gets abit tricky because you need to make sure you're taking the right "line". So, after the double left you feint to the right a little at the chicane, feint to the left to keep the rear sliding and start drifting right down the corkscrew/carousel. The key here is not to go for the early apex. Find the sweet spot and stay in the middle. If you do go for the early apex you'll end up going drifting wide too early at the bottom and go off track. If you start to wide you'll clip the dirt and spin. So stay in the middle at the top.

Now onto the back straight and under the bridge for a little break. From here it's possible to chain it all the way to the end onto front straight. Hold a long drift down the long right all the way to the apex up the hill [EDIT: For this long right hander I like to hold a long power slide/four wheel/neautral/ZERO COUNTER drift. So, swing it right, right before the little dip, choose your angle of attack and throttle steer it up the hill] then swing it left, start slowly without too much angle, and around the hairpin. After the hairpin I use as much road as possible keeping it going to the left as fas as I can then "fish" it right and then left again around the long left hander.

This is one of my favourite parts as the replay in this section is awesome. Hold a long right drift on the double apex right, swing left, quickly swing right and hold and enter wide into the final hairpin.. DONE :sly:

Now watch the replay... :)

So, in my opinion, Autumn Ring Reverse is the best track to drift on for its awesome combination of corners and, of course, the great replay you get at the end.

The key to drifting this track is control. You must have good throttle modulation and technique as there are times when you only need a little feint angle left or right to keep the back sideways at lower speed drifts. You must be able to set the car sliding at the right angles as sometimes you only need a slight angle going into the corner and then you may need to increase the angle as you go around.

There are also a number of possible lines you can take so be creative and experiment with different angles. With the right amount of speed and angle you don't have to "fish-tail" it on the corners where I USUALLY add a feint/fish down a short short straight to keep things sideways. It's just easier sometimes to add the feint.

EDIT: I FORGOT TO ADD THAT I USE A DS2.. :trouble:

Does anyone agree?.. There are other greats, of course, but this is the best!

What's your fav drift session and how do you chain it?

P.S: I want to put a poll up but I wanted to find out what the popular drift tracks are first

Thanks dude..

I didn't think that many had tried it in Reverse configuration..

If I was on the 'Station now (@work) I'd have more detail. Maybe just things like:

Slight/Medium/High angle Left/Right.. and when and how to apply the throttle..

Might do another more detailed right up tonight..

P.S: Dont ask me what car I used (unless you're playing Concept) as I'm still experiment.. but I did find that on arcade mode the elise 111r and amuse r1 with max power and N1's, are capable of chaining most of the corners. With a little more power they can do more.

Autumn Ring Reverse is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DRIFT TRACK. Followed closely by Autumn Ring Normall and High Speed Ring Normal. '00 Ford Mustang Cobra R is my favorite car to do them with.

Ahhhh.. a fan.. it's absoulatly awesome, yeah!..

gota love watching the replay too, especially as you approach the final hairpin with the camera focused on the front of the car as you swing it from left to right.. looks sooo cool!!

i make an effort out of drifting everything. today i did the formula1 gran turismo on wet tsukuba and high speed ring. just take off aids. i never did autumn cuz i rmember it being small and slow and only coming up at indvidual car company and lightweight races.i tweak my ae86 settings per course and now im getting into the higher attack angles with lower hp. I will try it,

thanks!

I'm sure you'll have fun on A Ring Reverse..

I'm wanting to create a poll about the most popular tracks to drift on. But I was wandering which tracks people prefer. Has it been done?

Can anyone help me out? If it's been done can you point me to the thread?

cheers

yea i like ARR, dont go there much though since my gtpc that was hosted there. feel free to check it out.
ive thought about drifting the ring, but i also thought about how long the lap would be, and said screw it. but i might try it soon.

One of my favorite tracks.... For sure... I also like it forward... Although I disagree with you about the power issue... You don't need power to link the whole course... I have done it in a 245 HP Sileighty, with tons of smoke and good angle... You just need to have the LSD and suspension set up to put the power down efficiently... This is not to say that drifting higher power cars is bad... On the contrary... I drift many high powered cars... All I'm saying is, it's not in the least bit necessary... Everything that can be done in a high powered car, can be done in a low powered car (with the right settings)...

;)

yeah it turned out great, i linked the whole thing 2 1/2 laps straight with 180hp ae86. those left-straight-right turns that look like this \_/ can be attacked lift-off or a small-medium/small feint with relatively low rpms.

also good replay angles indeed ;)

very D1-ish, impressed

Autumn Ring Reverse was the track of the first drift challenge.

You are definately right here. You don't NEED power. A car that is fairly light (say under 12-1300kg) with under 300hp is more than enough for this course, or any for that matter. I was drifting the whole course with an under 200hp elise (but that car is just awesome).

I was just trying to say that a little power might make some of the slower corners easier to keep the wheels spinning. Especially good for the first half of the carousel.:dopey:

Indeed, exactly what I do.. the replay angles are cool.

your avatar looks like the camera angle right before the final hairpin..

I'm really curious to see folks' definition of linking the whole course.
I'm sure everyone will agree with me on this one.

Linking the whole course means keeping the car at an angle, according to the direction of the road, with the rear traction exceeded. Getting alot of wheel spin on the exit of a corner while travelling in a straight line doesn't count..

It's all about angles and going sideways, mate. Drifting doesn't neccessarily mean you must be counter steering.

Two words: Zero Counter.. the fastest way to drift :sly:

In my opinion, it has a great combination of low, medium, and high speed driftable corners. Plus, it has a good number of corners for both left and right. The changes in gradient, going up and downhill..

And, you must know how to use all drifting techniques to get around the whole track.

This, to me, is what makes this track so great. It's extremely technical and very fun to drift on..

my friend drifted the the test course in GT3 it was insane he used an FC too he had some weird setting that were custom to that course or something, and thats how he did it.

I thought you meant the Nurburgring.

That is a fun drift course too.

Especially in something like a CTR or Ford GT.

I do the Autumn Ring Mini a lot, trying to get the entire back half linked...lots of fun there.

Never tried the full course in reverse, as I didn't like it much normal.
