I first drove this track when I played GT Concept, which was only last year
, and to be honest I haven't had much time driving it in GT4, and I'm suprised that noone has mentioned Autumn Ring Reverse as a major drift venue.
I've found that it has a great combination of corners for drifting and another plus is that the replays are awesome, providing great camera angles throughout the track.
When I attack this course the aim is to chain as many corners as possible, but because of the long strainghts (the back straight isn't that long but I don't like doing "fishies" down the straights) I divide the course into two sections.
From the left hand kink at the beginning I can chain every corner till I hit the back straight. So I drift left then quickly right into turns 1 and 2 "S's" (or sometimes I just turn in normally and just start drifting from turn 2 which is a right). Then, drift left at turn 3 and feint to the right a little in order to keep the rear slipping and hold a nice single drift into the double left at the top of the hill.
Next it gets abit tricky because you need to make sure you're taking the right "line". So, after the double left you feint to the right a little at the chicane, feint to the left to keep the rear sliding and start drifting right down the corkscrew/carousel. The key here is not to go for the early apex. Find the sweet spot and stay in the middle. If you do go for the early apex you'll end up going drifting wide too early at the bottom and go off track. If you start to wide you'll clip the dirt and spin. So stay in the middle at the top.
Now onto the back straight and under the bridge for a little break. From here it's possible to chain it all the way to the end onto front straight. Hold a long drift down the long right all the way to the apex up the hill [EDIT: For this long right hander I like to hold a long power slide/four wheel/neautral/ZERO COUNTER drift. So, swing it right, right before the little dip, choose your angle of attack and throttle steer it up the hill] then swing it left, start slowly without too much angle, and around the hairpin. After the hairpin I use as much road as possible keeping it going to the left as fas as I can then "fish" it right and then left again around the long left hander.
This is one of my favourite parts as the replay in this section is awesome. Hold a long right drift on the double apex right, swing left, quickly swing right and hold and enter wide into the final hairpin.. DONE
Now watch the replay...
So, in my opinion, Autumn Ring Reverse is the best track to drift on for its awesome combination of corners and, of course, the great replay you get at the end.
The key to drifting this track is control. You must have good throttle modulation and technique as there are times when you only need a little feint angle left or right to keep the back sideways at lower speed drifts. You must be able to set the car sliding at the right angles as sometimes you only need a slight angle going into the corner and then you may need to increase the angle as you go around.
There are also a number of possible lines you can take so be creative and experiment with different angles. With the right amount of speed and angle you don't have to "fish-tail" it on the corners where I USUALLY add a feint/fish down a short short straight to keep things sideways. It's just easier sometimes to add the feint.
EDIT: I FORGOT TO ADD THAT I USE A DS2..
Does anyone agree?.. There are other greats, of course, but this is the best!
What's your fav drift session and how do you chain it?
P.S: I want to put a poll up but I wanted to find out what the popular drift tracks are first
