Well I'll jump in on the bandwagon...

Bah! I should report you both for posting porn! There be yungin's on this site!

The thing about the GT40/GT is that they were built with a lot of help from Lola (in the case of the '40), Saleen and Lotus (GT). They're definitely the best-performing Fords, but not 'ultimate' in my opinion.

Just look at it, especially the front end. Blue lights? Please.

It's a pile of junk, there are SOOOO many other Mustangs of that vintage that look MUCH better.

Sooooo blue lights that shine white mean it's rice?

While I'd love to nominate the Termi, I gotta go here.

1987-1993 Ford Mustang LX 5.0

Why would I nominate this? Easy! It's THE cheapest Mustang to build, parts are absolutely everywhere, Cobra IRS bolts right up, and there's no limit to what they can do. Stock 5.0 blocks would crack around 500 RWHP, but picking up a readily available forged shortblock solves this. There's no power ceiling, it's the lightest modern Mustang, and they are easily had for under $3,000 USD

Anyone with me? No? Really?

Seriously though, I always envied Ford EU for putting out respectable hatches, and this seems to be their best example in a while.

Fiesta or Fiesta ST? The ST is fine, but the standard Mk6 Fiesta is about the least interesting car Ford have ever made, IMO.

...oh wait, I stand corrected. But that Fiesta is still pretty dull. I'd rather have a Mk5, in fact.

I quite like the Mk6 Fiestas actually, though if my housemate's Mk6 is anything to go by, they're equally as disposable as the Mk4/5s. Incidentally, we both have the same model - a 1.3 8v Finesse. His is the Mk6 version and mine's the Mk4.

But styling wise I prefer the Mk6 to the Mk7, just as I prefer the previous gen Mondeo to the current one, the previous gen Focus to the current one and the previous gen Ka to the current one. Ford may be building their cars better but they're building them uglier too, IMO.

Though I see you mention the Mk5 Jon, so I feel I have to chuck this car into the thread too as one of my favourite Fiestas - The Mk5 Zetec S. Used various parts from the Puma, which was always a good move. In return, the Puma got the Fiesta's 1.6 Zetec engine to slot in below the 1.7 in the range. As you'd expect from a small, late 90s Ford, it handles excellently:

If I wasn't so set on getting something more substantial like a BMW or a Civic then I'd be quite tempted by a Zetec S.

If it was a BMW 328 that someone gussied up into an M3 it would be called rice, so why is it that a Mustang gussied up into a molested GT500 isn't?

See the thing is though, if they tune the engine and upgrade the suspension/drivetrain to that of the sportier model, then it wouldn't matter. Granted since the GT500 was a movie car, and many people will want to make copies, that in itself could be considered rice. But the movie car itself isn't rice since it has all the aspects of a cool muscle car, with some modern bits thrown in. In my opinion, it's more posing than rice since it's likely that the clones will still be able to haul ass (maybe even be quicker without the weight of the big-block over the front end.)

Eleanor is so ugly... borderline rice IMHO.
Not even close.

There's a difference. Nobody has stripped a 328 to its chassis, repaired it, and then built a brand new car on top of it.

If it's rice, so are Ruf's, Gemballa's, & even those Cobra & Daytona rep's. from Shelby.

Seriously, as someone who has been in Unique's previous factory, I can tell you these cars deserve some respect. The body is just a tad beefier than the original GT500, & the blue lights are hardly enough to call it rice. And the SuperSnakes. Completely different kind of animal.

*looks at sig. Points* :D I win!

Outside of that OBVIOUS choice for me, I will nominate 2 cars. One for old Ford, one for new:

Old: 66/67 Fairlane

Absolutely sexy body styling; with a 4 speed and V8 under the hood, pure heaven.

New: 03/04 Mustang Cobra

Love the looks, sound, and overall attitude. One of the select few modern muscle cars that I truly lust for. 'nuff said.

Anyone with me? No? Really?

Why not? Outside of the Mustang, the small FWD compacts that Ford have been building lately have been absolutely outstanding. Still counting down 'till Fiesta time in the US...

I almost voted for this...but The Terminator exsists so its difficult to ignore.

Mmm, I agree that with the right colour and trim level, the Mk6 looks pretty nice. It's just that I feel it lost nearly all of its flair, and turned into nothing more than a mundane, moderately sized run-about. It's not an interesting shape (it looks like a sugar cube with wheels, let's be honest), and the interior in particular is a thing of hate:

That's almost at German levels of dull. In fact it's worse. Make it look like the old Focus's one, damnit! Even the basic (old) Ka is a nicer place to be in.

Mmmm.... I'd love a Zetec S. I suspect Zurich would laugh at me if I tried to insure one, though. Actually I might go and try that later...

I don't need to explain this.

And back in Europe.
Ford Capri 3.0 S

And the endless joy of the Escort Mk2's BDA engine.

Obviously you can't mention these without mentiong the Sierra Cosworth RS500, RS200, GT40, GT, Escort MK1 and the Escort Cossie.

I was gonna nominate the Bronco (as used by Keanu Reeves in Speed) but then I remembered that I actually prefer the International Scout of that era instead.

However, that said, that era of Bronco is pretty bad 3 letter word

I have a sneaking suspicion I don't actually know enough of good Fords to name the ultimate. After all, I'm in America.

I mean sure, the new Focus RS is an obvious choice, but it is just that: obvious. Actually, that new Fiesta and Ka both seem pretty freaking sweet, but neither seem very 'ultimate' in any sense of the word. Forget it, just mark me down for something European and FF.

While I think on, here's one we almost forgot:

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that these get better looking with age? It's just a pity that so few seem to be completely standard any more.

Yeh, I love pretty much all the ford cosworth builds. Ford have a knack for making extremely cool hot hatches. It's a shame that we might be seeing the last of the RS logo. Not a bad way to finish though.

The engine in that car is great, but as you say, I bet there aren't many stock ones left.

[edit] Is this not the ultimate ford. It revolutionised, well, cars.

For me even as a huge fan of sports cars, ultimate isn't always fastest.
