I feel this could be a good one, Pontiac have had such a raft of awesome or meaningful cars. For me, it's the 1969 Judge GTO

Not the fastest, not the most significant Pontiac in history, but what an awesome name, what awesome looks, a 273kw 6.6L V8, beefed up suspension, I think it's the coolest, and therefore ultimate Pontiac.:sly:

Surprisingly they were fairly modern too from what I read, coil springs all round included. Perhaps one of the better handling muscle cars ever as well?

It's gonna be the G8 for me. Uncle has one, but even though I think it's the best, it could still use some work in the interior (new headrests and seat-adjustment design needed). It wins on looks. If he didn't have points to use on a GM card, I would've had him get a Genesis.

I was going to post the 1969 GTO too, I like the 1968 GTO front end better but the '69 got the 455HO rather than the 400HO.

My father owned a 68 GTO and fitted a 69's 455HO engine shortly after, I have a soft spot for them.

6.6L? The 1969 GTO had a 7.5L (455), and apparently like other muscle cars of the time were underrated in power, unofficially they were (apparently) over 400hp (300kw's+) with truck loads of torque.

EDIT actually I think the 1970 came with the 455HO

Yeah, this little book I use can be unreliable, 7.5L it is (even better :D).

Edit: Woops, well make up your mind, what engine has it got?:p

Well I think it switched around the end of the 1969 to the 455HO (from 6.6L 400HO).

...maybe i should have added the ' :sly: ' smilie to the end of my previous post ;)

I want one. Although, it would get Nissan Titan's VK56DE as soon as possible.. :D

because I like my camshafts and variable valve timing. Of course, I could try finding the original ZR-1 engine, but it's unlikely to find one that's cheaper than engine from rear-ended Titan.. and by downgrade you mean..? that missing ~100cc's of displacement? funny, if my memory serves, Titan's engine is more powerful etc. ;)

For technical prowess...

Stick that up your sports exhaust, Mr. L28! (Leo, put this into that Firebird. and give it twin turbos.)

Otherwise...

The turbocharged LS7 Mallet Solstice, I mean come on it has a 900hp engine and puts down 750 of those horses through the rear tires. It would be useless and probably explode but just to say you have a Solstice that does that would be worth it.

Past that I can't really think of an "ultimate" Pontiacs. Ya the Firebird is cool and all but it's logo is still a flaming chicken.

Much heavier. More complicated. Not as powerful anyways. If you had said VK50VE you would have had a point, but there is aboslutely no reason to swap out an LS1 with any other VK-series engine. Nor is there any reason to swap an LS1 with an LT5.

funny, if my memory serves, Titan's engine is more powerful etc. ;)
LS1 Firebirds (not even Trans Ams) made towards the end of the car's life have more power at the rear wheels than the Titan is even rated for at the crank.

let's see..

The VK56DE is a 5.6 L (5552 cc) version built in Decherd, TN. Bore is 98 mm (3.9 in) and stroke is 92 mm (3.6 in). Output is 317 hp - 320 hp (227 kW) at 4900 rpm with 375 to 390 ft·lbf (509-522 Nm) of torque at 3600 rpm. It has aluminum-alloy block and heads and low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons. The valvetrain is a dual overhead cam (DOHC). It has 4 valves per cylinder with microfinished camshafts and ductile iron cylinder liners for increased durability.

The LS1 shares little other than similar displacement, external dimensions, and rod bearings, with its predecessor. It is an all-aluminum 5.7 L (5,665 cc/345.7 cu in) pushrod engine and was rated between 305 - 350 hp (227 to 261 kW) and 335-375 ft·lbf (454-508 N·m) of torque in North America, depending on the application.

so, LS1 has more power but slightly less torque. I'd say they're pretty evenly matched.

Lets not take this thread into some silly debate, I've enjoyed these threads because they haven't turned into the usual..... you get the idea

I agree, the first of the Gen II's (original Smokey & the Bandit) are nicer than the bumper boats they turned into. :sly:

1965-66 GTO with 389 tri-power.
Though I really dig the '69 T/A with 400cid.

You're still crazy. If I was going to swap out the LS1 for an equivalent motor from a different company, I would put in a 3UR-FE or the 2009 version of the Hemi.

Agreed. Even Nissan didn't become a huge debate...and we KNOW what sort of kindling the GT-R is.

I like the power of the latest generation of GTO. But it's styling would have to go some to be blander.
I guess that would make it a good "stealth" machine. But in that color it's all but invisible, which would be good with 400HP on tap.

That '65 with the Kragar SS wheels is making my heart race!!!
