Fantastic Write-up Dave,, really interesting,, BTW: Congrats on your marriage,,

EDIT: NEW TIME FOR THE ACURA NSX: 1'09.891
I really pushed everything out of this car,, in my opinion.. Even in the wet this car is secure and fast..

Thanks De@tthwisho0, and well done on that time:tup:

For me, the easiest of them was the Peugeot, which I always knew was a natural drift master at this circuit in the wet. A quick recce showed that the most effective mod was a stage 3 turbo: I couldn't catch it with full race suspenders or a VCD, which I thought might help, but which only made the car unstable on entry. I could still apply full power, even with 439bhp on tap. What was absolutely critical was the line you took, and my fastest laps were those with a late entry, turning at a point where you can more or less straight-line the exit, particularly on the last bend. Indeed one of my fastest laps (which I didn't count) was one where on both of the last 2 corners, I actually went off on the outside of the bend and was accelerating hard from the moment I hit tarmac again. Once I'd tidied that up, I went even quicker...:D

The Ruf was a more delicate affair: I went for semi-racing suspension as the mod as more power was counter productive. I had high hopes for the Ruf here, as I felt it was driveable enough to beat both of the top supercars, and if it wasn't for l2ev's delicacy with the Ford GT, it might well have done. It had good traction, and could take full power in 3rd, which was a blessing because the torquey motor gave good acceleration from about 4000rpm. In 2nd you needed to hold back a tad and it was always a toss-up as to which gear you wanted at any one time. Usually 2nd won out, but sometimes 3rd proved a touch better.

The Caterham on the other hand was a nightmare. Wheelspin everywhere, and somehow it was quite difficult to detect, something to do with the high gearing I think. Usually I'd end up coming out of the hairpins in 3rd (equivalent to 4th in most cars beacause of the high gearing) with zero acceleration. If you lifted off, you had the bizarre experience of having the revs go down, while the speed went up! Even after all the practice I got in the Ruf, I could not improve on the 1'17" I got early on:grumpy:

Sure, the Caterham was frustrating, but in the right car, this proved to be a very rewarding track. I hope everyone else found the same!

Edit: Well done on the Acura time Deathwish :grumpy: 👎 3/1000ths of a second??? Bah!

Whilst the track wont go down as my favourite track, I found that once I adapted to the earlier braking and generally taking things easier approach it became a lot more fun. However I am looking forward to Infineon where I can "drop the hammer" a bit more! (Cheesy days of thunder line)

Interesting to hear about your cars, that 205 has mental amounts of power:crazy:

The Caterham problem sounds similar to what was happening in the Alfa, I couldnt detect the 5th gear wheelspin early on but knew something was very wrong!

Cool three cars though Ed:tup:

Regarding the fact you mentioned "Going off" - what is the official line on laps? I assumed all laps must be clean as in 2 wheels on track at all times, but Im not sure anything has been officially mentioned as there isnt any replay requirements for this series etc etc?

Needless to say all my submitted times are always clean:)

regards

David

Needless to say all my submitted times are always clean:)

As are mine, I have done a few quicker laps, but they have been the result of a crossed up corner and shooting across the cornerto regain control down the next straight (1st gear corner before the long straight mainly)

Whell,my times are also clear, and i'm happy that i can proove that from yesterday and forward, that capture card really helps me(it's from my friend),and i will add one more drift video today, this one is better than the first one ;)
Deathwish, very nice time,i cannot beat that one,the nsx is eating my nerves,it has low power, but enormous wheelspin,i don't know what could happen if i choosed NA stage 2 for my Tsukuba Wet Mod:scared:
And @ Dave and Ed,very nice write ups 👍👍

For Budget Class FF Section, I have a Honda Today G '85. At Tsukuba Wet, with no offs (Not hard, it goes to slowly to go off), 1'31.891. That should be best in class, unless something with 71hp comes along.

Yes, clean laps only. Never got round to putting that little section in the rules.

As to my car selection, in a perfect world I would have a 911 and an S class Merc. Plus about 8 bikes :D ; the Caterham was a natural choice for a track day series; and the Peugeot was only there because of Tsukuba wet; I probably wouldn't have thought of it but for that track, in fact I was thinking of an E-type (possibly unmodified...) as my last choice.

I also felt the Ruf would tune much better than the other supercars, and would come into its own towards the end of the series (that'll be the Nurb, then...;))

Just had the most brilliant brainwave! 💡 Put the girlfriend (who happens to weigh exactly 50kg! :D ) in the back of the Caterham, and did a 1'14.695"! I could actually accelerate in 2nd out of every corner and all along the back straight!

I hope no-one has a problem with adding ballast to a car, I can't see any reason to disallow it...

xjr-9, I'm not desparately happy with a kei car in the running, even a 2 door one. I don't think it's natural Track Day material, and at the Nurb it'll just be in the way. I know it doesn't technically break the rules, but I'd be happier if it was a Cappuccino, a Beat or an AZ-1, one of the sporty ones. I'd be really happy if you use a '76 Golf GTI, you always see those at track days, and they're a cracking little car.

Oops, except the Golf, none of those are in the budget division... Sorry! :dunce:

Well, my cars are being unpacked back in the states, as I hired out the concorde to transport them (sorry, only room for 3 cars), and after walking a lap around the track, i can see that the zonda and cobra are going to have some traction issues, but the Monaro should be okay

Semi-racing suspension for the Zonda
Semi-racing suspension for the Cobra
Undecided for the Monaro

-edit-

Looking forwards to the nurb in the zonda!

Wondering where you get that idea?  :D :p

And Goose, your time zone is quite fast :D,but infineon will be open for about 8 hours for now in British summer time!

Well, I was thinking "I need more traction, I could do with some dead weight over the back", so I looked around the pit garage for something suitable...:sly: We'll be talking again by the time we get to Germany...

I know, I'm not running yet, just getting my bays all set up, and checking for pot-holes!

Well...I have been out on the track in the Cobra, but only to hear that 427 screaming its face off while doing a 4th gear burnout!

-edit-

ed got in while i was posting, dammit, he's a quicker typer as well as a quicker driver!

Whell,if it isn't for adding ballast to my nsx,it would have around 1'11.xxx,that thing saved me,i didn't have some room for girlfriend in nsx,2 seater :D
I used 4 car batteryes instead :D

Well you'd better be prepared because I MIGHT have a little suprise up my sleeve. I'm not saying what it is though. That would be telling. BTW, are cars such as the TVR Cerbera Speed 12 and other similar cars welcome? That's not my plan, I'm just wondering.

xjr-9

Whell, that would be the supercars,so that mean yes!

I wasn't sure for some reason. I will bring along a Speed 12 to the 'Ring and Infineon, but I'm having to drop the Jaguar for that. I will, however, be keeping my Griffith and Skyline, though I don't know if they will do well at the the 'Ring, as they aren't performing too well there, probably due to me. BTW, the Speed 12 will be in Macao Yellow.

xjr-9

P.S. - Beating 1'12.894 is probably impossible in the S-Type, so that is why it is going to make room for something with more grunt, like the Speed 12, or "The Beast", as I call it.

Attention Paddock:
Please note that Tsukuba Soaking will close in approximately 5 hours. Thankyou.

You can take my times for final,i'm shipping cars to USA already, they are on half!I'm going air style :D
And yeah,i just buyed new tuning kit for NSX,so it will be @ Infineon, new pistons,crankshaft...

I've found an exchange engine for the Ruf. Bench tested at 520bhp! The Pug needs some suspension work, and the Cat? not sure yet. Tuning options are limited.

Should be good. Extra prizes for getting all the cones in the pitlane :D

Whell,i added my new drift video into my thread(link in sig) so feel free to check it out!Anyway, tested nsx @ the Infineon and camed with 1'41.465,i think that this time is going to be my final for a few days,i need to setup the car better!Do you other guys have orientation times for this track?

@Ed,very nice avatar and user title :D:D:D

EDIT:Forgot to take off that weight ballast, and getting the 1'40.388 from my time!

just cause you cant beat me on one track doesnt mean you wont beat me on the other tracks, trust me you should stick with it and learn to drive it faster and better, its all about practice.

trust me stick with the S-type it will be worth it

and yes A112 i will on you own the nurburgring :p

Ed,i updated my timepost with latest times for Infineon,i'm on strong coffee, red bull, all that stuff, just for making first times :D:D:D

Wait for us! The track's not even open yet! What time is it in California anyway (assuming Infineon is in California...)

100$ accidently slipped from my hand to the guard's ,whoila, there's my times :D
Whell, going to sleep(NSX's front seat is leather, but i have whole bench in skyline,so...),see ya tommorow, make sure to post some times, cheers 👍

Whell Ed,nice time with the RUF,but i can't get that one with the poor underpowered NSX:indiff: :grumpy:

That car's a monster now! You can really feel the effect of the extra power as it fights the chassis for supremacy! :sly: The Caterham's sweet here too, the only under-achiever is the Pug, which still understeers into oblivion at the merest whiff of throttle...:yuck: But I'm working on chassis settings, so we'll see if we can pull the cat (well, Pug) out of the bag...
