Hi to everyone,

Just a quick note to say that my wedding went great yesterday, we are now leaving a day earlier for honeymoon and as a result we have loads to do, unfortunatly I am not going to be able to run the Nurburgring at all. Im gutted as its my favourite course aswell.

But nevermind as sometimes gtp/gt4 has to take a backseat and the ds2 needs a well deserved break.

Good luck with the final week!

speak to you soon

regards

David

I'm sure I join all here at GT Planet in wishing both of you all the best for the future and have a great honeymoon (and I hope you only get to read this on you return).

On a far more selfish note, I for one am damn relieved, at least now I stand less of a chance of total humiliation at the 'ring. I'm quite sure that if Dave had shown up he would have driven rings around us all (bad pun full intended).

👍

Scaff, got any set-up advice for the Caterham at the ring?

How can I stop it being quite so jittery at high speed? Haven't done much with the new suspension except softening the springs (5.0/3.8) and dampers (1/1); I've left the ride height at 67 to avoid bottoming out with the soft springs, and haven't touched the camber yet. Basically, apart from its propensity to jump into hedges (which I think is a spring rate thing, and I feel I'm beginning to address), the steering gets hyper sensitive at speed and it feels really unstable.

I think this often happens in cars with minimal understeer below 100mph (eg Lotus Elan), and as the speed rises the sensitivity rises too. I may be forced to introduce some understeer into the equation...:yuck: What do you think?

BTW got some plans for the next series (which won't be for a couple of weeks at least) which I think you'll like.

If I get a chance I will have a look at the Caterham for you, for a starting point try out the followng set-up (do you have full FC Suspension - I hope so)

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2023659&postcount=141

Its a set-up I did for the Fireblade at Deep Forest and does suit the 'ring quite well. The trick to a lot of teh very light cars like the Caterham & Ginetta is not just the spring rates, but also the dampers. In fact its very easy with them to set the dampers far too high and restrict the suspension (same with the anti-roll bars to a lesser degree). You also have to avoid the curbing at the 'ring with cars this light as well.

Give the above a go and let me know how it feels, should be able to work something for you from that starting point (PM me if you need).

Onto my own cars and I felt compelled to post as I just took the Galant around (after ripping out the interior and throwing away the spare - Weight Reduction Stage 1 - track mod). Now despite the fact that anything that even slightly looks like a hill saps every bit of power the car has and its top speed of 136mph (now fully confirmed) I managed on the first lap out to get a 9.17:348.

I had set myself a target of under 9.30 for the Galant after it struggeled at Infineon in such a huge way, and I have to say, slow it may be in the grand plan, but I'm well chuffed with my little Galant.

Going to get that down as well, so come on all the uber fast buggers, catch me if you can (waits to be passed at warp factor 10 but a GT, only to pass its flamming remains a mile or so later).

Time post proudly updated.

well ive noticed something about the ring.
it isnt a full on power track.
had the M5 out with 582bhp and set a pretty respectable lap time (aint giving away anything :p),now with 582bhp the car gets only spins its wheels in 1st and 2nd,but now with 655 it really struggles for traction now out of the corners even in 3rd now it wheelspins.did a lap with the 582 ghost car and on the straights theres no contest, the 655 leaves it for dead, but now due to longer braking distances and the struggle for grip the 582 can easily keep up,was only 3 seconds faster overal, had a play around with tcs and suspension abit more and got it sorted now though ;)

Well, I'm feeling a lot happier about being beaten by the M5 now: a standard M5 can lap the Nurb 16 seconds faster than a standard Ruf RGT. Or so it says here. I know it's a hell of a lot easier to drive round there, especially on N2s.

Oh, and, like I said before, real men don't use TCS :p

Oh, and, like I said before, real men don't use TCS :p
its only on level 1 :p
although it is rather intresting seen an M5 that got less power almost overtake during braking as the distances are now much longer, and also coming out of corners,it feels like forever till the tcs stops killing the power :(
oh and my M5 is currently running 10+ seconds faster than you think you can get the RUF round there :p

real men can drive fast ;) :p

Last one is nice Ed :D.And yeah, real men don't use TCS or any other controlling device.
@ Holden: Post 666 :D:D:D:D

2 excellent laps, l2ev, thanks for going to all that trouble for us 👍 Do you use a wheel? Those laps were sooo smooth I figured you must do, but, knowing you, you'll prove me wrong and tell me you use a DS2 :dopey:

Great laps, though...

Results and points now up for Infineon, sorry about the delay, busy weekend, puncture, the dog ate my homework, pure bloody idleness, procrastination, etc...

some people  :p

ive got a video all editted and uploaded on google video of my M5 and your RGT but they take forever to verify it and make it live

Time post updated for both cars (btw GT-R mod for the 'ring is Weight Reduction 2).

Also been out and about on my new bike, rather special version of the Katana, now be nice about my Galant or you can't have a go.

thread post 666 just for the sake of it

Well, I got post #69

I'm back by the way, will have a crack tonight.

Thank you Eddie. It was no trouble at all. I already had the capture card running to get some drift videos (link in sig) at the same time. Good call; I am using a DS2.

edit: Just took the GT for a spin at the ring. It's all fun and games until you hit a bump which eventually results in a head on collision with the wall. Looks like it is going to need a little work. Goose, you also got post 420 ;).

BINGBONG

This are the pics about Ed's and Holden's little Lotus Nurb Challenge, this was private however,i was the judge!

Here are proof,PLEASE WATCH PICS IN FULL SIZE FOR CLEAR ONES

This is Ed's prommise, due to my loss of ps2

Whoa,check Holden's time:

And the best part:

Ed,i think you owe me a ps2 when you buy ps3 :D:D:D

l2ev
Goose, you also got post 420 ;).
What's the significance (sp) of #420?

Once again I haven't had a chance to have a crack at the 'ring yet, hopefully tonight!

Excellent! The bribery worked! Nice one Abarth! ;) You'll have to wait till the PS3 comes out, but a deal's a deal:)

PS If it's any consolation, Holden, it took me all evening to get below 7'30", I was stuck on 7'34" for ages and every lap there was some stupid error...

I have been trying to the GT on the ring. Its advantages of driving on all other tracks has become its weakness. It is insanely fast on the track, and the my new suspension set up has greatly helped over bumps. No matter how well I'm doing some random bump sends the car flying off the track, and I have no other way to describe it but...:grumpy: :irked: :banghead: :banghead: 🤬 🤬 🤬 :ouch:

Some of interesting facts

Popularity of Virtual Track Day Series is really big comparing it to the other short race series.
Check it out...

1. Virtual Track Day with 9,361 views
2. Warm up Race ( S2000 Spoon Race Car ) with 3,616 views
3. Spoon S2000 Race Car - S.O.T.B [Round 1] with 3,030 views

3. Warm up Race ( S2000 Spoon Race Car ) with 180 replies

So that means that the thread is pretty active,so Ed,your link about "why race series fail" is scraped IMHO!!!

Whell, you can junk the theory about virtual track day failure!
