Do you get 2 points for each correct question? (cause ceiling_fan got 14, & there are only ten questions...)

Anyway, my effort has been PM'ed :)

10 x 2 = 20 :dopey:

Yes, each question is worth two points. If you get it half right (or half wrong, depending on you attitude towards life), it's 1 point. Got some questions in this morning, and am counting them in...

ceiling_fan: you got correct 1, 2, 4, 5 (I think you're the only one who's got that one), 7, 9 and 10...

by the way, did you understand my explanation on #8?

den brakke
Diego you've got PM.

#2: You got it 1/4 correct, since you only named one of the four members of the band... since I can0t give you 1/4 point, you got a half. On #4 you didn't say the whole name of the artist, just the first one, hence another half. And you got #6 worng... still, great job.

Oh, I never saw this before. Do I get negative points for incorrect answers? Because I'm not sure of any of these questions, and I don't want to google them.

no, you just get points for correct answers and half the points for half rights... every question is worth 2 points.

However, I'll be posting the answersin about an hour, so unless you're quite fast, you could take a shot at them. Either way, the new quiz will be posted between tonight and tomorrow, on a new thread, I believe.

I'll wait for the next one then. :)

But I think you could do the next round in this same thread.

At last, curiosity is off and the answers are in... what a lame intro, but here they are:

1. What country's flag does Metallica's drummer Lars Ulrich usually have on his drums when playing live, and why?
Lars was born in Denmark, hence the flag.

2. Which jazz artists conformed the jazz band called ScoLoHoFo?
John SCOfield, Joe LOvano, Dave HOlland and Al FOster.

3. Which is the most covered song of all time (national anthems and anonymous songs not included)?
According to Wikipedia and I think according to Guinness as well, it's Yesterday, by The Beatles, with over 3000 versions of it.

4. What was the pseudonym (artistic name) of Sylvester Stewart?
Sly Stone, of Sly and the Family Stone

5. Who won the 1994 Best New Artist Grammy Award?
Sheryl Crow. A lot of people put Toni Braxton and in fact, a Google search showed her as the winner of the award on many websites. However, if you log on to the Grammys website and do the search for past winner, Sheryl Crow's name comes up, while Toni Braxton comes as the Best R&B singer or something to that effect.

6. Which was Queen's last recorded music video (with Freddie Mercury still alive)?
These are the Days of our Lives. Again, many different answers here. The Show Must Go On was the most common answer, and indeed it was Queen's last video (so far), but at the time it was put together (it's all shots of past videos and concerts), Freddie was already gone.

7. Which Australian soap opera actress had a big hit singing "The Loco-Motion" in 1988?
Kylie Minogue

8. What music does DJ Dara play/mix?
Drum n' Bass. Jump-up would've been a correct answer as well. Many people put Techno or Electronica, but that's just too broad a scope. It's like saying Sepultura and Bryan Adams are the same type, since they're both Rock.

9. Who is the original writer/performer of the song Free Bird?
Lynyrd Skynyrd... Robbie Van Zant woud've also been a correct answer.

10. What band/song do these lyrics belong to: "I'm all right Jack, take your hands off my stack"?
Pink Floyd - Money. The lyrics also appear in the movie The Wall, the part where the teacher is making fun of the kid's 'poems',... the 'poem' is the lyrics for Money.

Alright, questions for next quiz will be posted between tonight (GMT) and tomorrow. Since I'm mostly a heavy metal fan, some questions will have to do with such bands (I think I'm asking another Metallica-related question). I'm also a jazz fan, but since it's not so mainstream, I may only ask one. I also hate pop so one or two Pop-related questions are what I'll do.

The winner of this quiz: James2097

After FatAssBR's initiative, I'll post the next round as a reply on this same thread.

OK, according to this link;

http://oldies.about.com/library/weekly/aa091602a.htm

Louie Louie (my answer) is the most covered song.

so you Googled it! Cheater...

Actually, it says that Yesterday is indeed the most covered song, followed by Louie Louie at #2

about.com
Many people - even those not in the know about music history - can tell you that the Beatles' "Yesterday" is the most-covered song of all time. Not a lot of people know that the song at Number 2, however, is a song which engendered a storm of controversy upon its release, was banned in at least one US state, and was scrutinized relentlessly by the FBI.

That song is the Kingsmen's "Louie, Louie,"

Wikipedia
The Beatles have been covered more than any other band; "Yesterday" has been covered over three thousand times since its original release in 1965. George Gershwin's "Summertime" (from Porgy and Bess) has had an estimated 2,500 versions recorded. Other songs which have been released many times as cover versions include the infamous "Louie Louie" by Richard Berry, "We Will Rock You" (Queen), "Free Bird" (Lynyrd Skynyrd), "No Woman No Cry" (Bob Marley & the Wailers) and many of the less recent works of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen (as of 5 December 2004, there were at least 940 published cover versions of Cohen songs [1]).

Anyhow, I'm off to get a much needed haircut and as soon as I'm back I'll post the next round.

As promised, lo and behold the next round of questions:

1. Who was Metallica's first bassist?

2. Who is the lead singer of the band Nine Inch Nails?

3. In 1994, the band Us3 had major hit with 'Flip Fantasia'. What was the original song it is based on?

4. Who is U2's song 'Pride (In The Name of Love)' about? For an extra point: What is the mistake in the lyrics of that song?

5. Which band has the best-selling Greatest Hits CD of all time?

6. What does the accronym GWAR of the band by the same name mean?

7. What do Bootsy Collins, Phil Lesh, Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones and Les Claypool have in common?

8. Which two artists were known as Devadip and Turiya?

9. Despite being one of the greatest jazz artists of all time, John Coltrane's career (as a solo artist) was relatively short. How short? (between which and which years)

10. Which band/record is this cover from?

as with last time, PM the answers... the quiz will be open until next friday (Dec. 16) or so, which is when I'll post the answers.
