The word über.

Ok this might seem like I'm ranting on and on but it gets on my nerves when people use this word incorrectly.

I know German pretty good and I know über means over not super or good or anything a long those lines. So please use this word correctly.

Saying thats über cool sounds stupid to those of use who know German.

Sorry everyone else has a rant so I thought I get this off my mind.

And here are some German words:
über = over
zuper = super (spelled the way it sounds)
gut = good

I guess that I should point out that I don't like it when people slaughter the language that they speak on a normal basis.

You should learn the proper usages of the words well and good. It might come in handy when you wish to sound like a non-idiot.

"That's." It is quite worse when you destroy the language you speak most as opposed to a language in which you know little about.

I'm assuming you speak English and German on a normal basis.

Whilst we're on this road - the use of the word 'ultimate' is one that gets me.

There was a famous instance of this some years ago when BMW won the 24 hour touring car race at Spa. The following week advertisements featuring the win ran with the banner 'BMW Wins Ultimate Race!' - no doubt to the suprise of people competing in motorsport events after the Spa race, but there you go.

So, the following year, BMW managed a repeat of its victory in the Spa 24 hour race, prompting advertisements of, yes, you guessed it, 'BMW Wins Ultimate Race....Again!'.

Ouchie!

Oh well - I was just looking for an opportunity to get something off my chest.

Don't tend to see über in Australia much. I can remember small fragments of German from high school - I did once try to change my job title to über fuhrer, but to no avail.

God everyone uses über around here. Mostly the snow-boarders say there "I can **** up the slopes über sweet". And since I can't do anything that requires going down a hill while standing I just laugh at them.

Ubermensch was mistranslated as Superman. Of course it is a much more spatial and temporal concept that was lost on English speakers for a long, long time.

Try using BabelFish back and forth like this:

English to French to English to German to English to Spanish and finally back to English again.

The results are likely to make you bust a gut.

I hate the over-use of the word "extreme" and "ultimate" over on these shores; it's been going on for at least 5 years now.

Nope. I typed something like "I always wonder how well these internet translators really work."

Now we know.

And no internet translators don't work and I don't use them often.
