I know I have heard that Forza 2 was supposed to be held back by storage issues on DVD.

Does anyone know if that is true, and if so does that mean two discs?

Just as the Killzone 2 developers wanted to demonstrate the power of the PS3 and beat any FPS on the 360, I imagine Turn 10 have implemented every fan wish to top the acknowledged leader in the genre, Gran Turismo.

Let's face it, PD will have to go against type if they are going to demonstrate ground breaking features, each GT incarnation has been a slight evolution rather than a giant leap forward. What's more PD have already shown their hand on the graphics front, which along with car and track counts, has always been their strong point.

How exactly did this turn into another damage thread?

Sorry, I think it was me that triggered it this time. We were arguing the time it takes to design a car in GT5, and someone posted a PD quote about development time. That quote also happened to claim that a slight wall tap coming out of a turn at Daytona would desintigrate a car, and I commented that I had seen several cars come out of said taps perfectly fine. Then the damage talk ensued.

Apparently it's been leaked Forza 3 will see a 2009 release, so presumably will be shown at E3. A previous leak suggested 400 cars and 100 tracks.

It will be interesting to see what the fan/press reaction will be if Forza 3 has damage, weather etc. and GT5 does not, especially if Forza 3 matches GT5's graphics.
Forza 2 was also fer sure going to be out by Christmas 2006 with 12 car races on and offline and all the content from Forza 1 and way more. ;)

But it will be interesting to see what they can cram into the 360, and on how many discs. And this time, to see if they really did start from scratch with all their assets, or if my Supra looks the size of a Buick, and the Nurb looks like a four lane highway with Karussells. If they have very much going on inb physics and environmental effects such as rain and lots of smoke, I'm hoping it doesn't roast my first gen "Leet."

I know I have heard that Forza 2 was supposed to be held back by storage issues on DVD.

Does anyone know if that is true, and if so does that mean two discs?
This seems to be true, since the platinum edition includes the DLC packs on an additional DVD. It's said the standard disc is just about crammed full. There's no doubt that FM3 will require at least two DVDs. What is in doubt is that 2009 release date, and how many bugs it's going to have.

While my copy of Prologue initially crashed on occasion when disconnecting from a race, it's been very stable and trouble free after that first month. This is one thing Playstation games offer over the 360, a mostly bug free, stable, reliable good time. But like everyone else, I'm looking forward to Kaz and the lads stuffing GT5 with as much content as possible, pulling out all the stops to have all ranks going, for a glorious pipe organ concert of a racing experience. If that makes sense. ;)

Kid, if you want a long, happy life here, I wouldn't wee in our fire too much. ;)

So, we're coming to the close of the first week of the month before E3, and so far, no big leak. Does anyone think there will be anything before The Big Event? A blurb, screenshot, brief video? Another cryptic post by Amar? Or are you fed up with us yet?

I can't remember the days leading up to Kazunori-dono's big unveiling of GT4. And I'm too much of a big kid. I'm usually a patient guy, have stayed away from the Ratchet & Clank board, but... darn it, I want to peek under the Christmas wrap at least once!

Consider last year's E3. Rumors were all hardware related. The buzz was all about the 360 getting FFXIII and their Netflix deal. Jack Tretton gets up and starts talking about the video store, inviting all studios to join them, and then announces that it is open Now. No one saw it coming.

A video store was rumored, but the details, that it was finished, and who was all involved was missing.

Similarly we have about as much info about GT5. There is a very, very tight lid on this. They want to drop a bomb the style of "It is open now."

Kid? 30 years old kid. Hmm dude, only kids can make jokes? I may not be much of a poster here, but been lurking since day one, so I had a long life here already ;)

Anyways, I don't think that PD will reveal anything until Leipzig. Considering E3 lost its glory and Leipzig is the new **** (or Koln in the future, whatever), we should expect some info there, if at all.

And I stand by my wishes for the game that I voiced quite a few month ago, such as:

''- Although the cockpit view is breath taking, there is something missing. Especially the response time of the wheel must be better. Because driving a car is all about quick responses. It feels somehow 'slow'. (Midnight Club 4, despite its arcade nature, seems to have that feeling pretty much nailed as far as I can tell from the videos)
- While in car view, I think there must be more road noise in the car. You should feel the road, the asphalt more. This is very good in SimBin games. You can actually feel the road under the car. Those road noise effects are really helpfull.
- Again in in car view, I think there also must be a 'shaking effect' (which seems to be present in MC4). When you drive the car and go over a bump, and hit the road heavly, the car just doesn't feel 'heavy' enough to me. I think it must shake when it lands on the asphalt and the control must be alittle tricky the first few seconds. But it lands just softly with a weak 'bump' effect. You must actually feel the 'bodywork' behaviour of the car. It must shake and lose a little control and stuff like that. And maybe even lose a hubcap on some cars as well, to add some fun and authenticity ) (Like in Driver)
- The wheel sizes should also be visible when you change them. When you change the rims from 17 to 20 inches, these changes should be present accurately.''

Some of these things are vital I believe, at least they are to me. And I would like to see some tire marks on the road and some damage (yes) as well.

So, Amar, what do you think? Can we expect some of these things coming true, or should I forget about them already?!

I agree with your sentiments, Mudokon, but one thing about "game lag." Many who report this have their HDTVs set up to process the signal, and they will do this if your TV is set for 1080 mode while the PS3 is in 720, or similar. For others, it's when they use component cables, and it goes away with HDMI cable. Processing causes a slight delay, which is usually a cause for much frustration in fighting and shooting games. I have my Bravia and PS3 linked with a good HDMI cable to link to the same resolution, and my performance is flawless.

There is a very, very tight lid on this. They want to drop a bomb the style of "It is open now."
Gah... I fear as much to be true. But but but... Christmas NEVER comes!

Listen to me, the guy who was telling everyone to be patient a few days ago... :p

sorry about my english. about damage.. PD will say about damage at e3 thats for sure.. now i got an information, and its not commfierd yet but i think its 80% true. there will be damage! not like in grid, more like forza in optic way. but in mechanick way realistik more than any other game! that is all i can say for now. if you dont trust me, the prof will come on june 2 at e3

We'll be waiting.. ;)

btw, I'd be happy with any damage and only for race cars.. But enough now about damage in this thread.

Tenacious D,

I know about that, however, what I'm talking about isn't that I think. When I wrote that many months ago, I just had the opportunity to test it on a 720p setting with a steering wheel (DFP), and the response time was a little late. And nowadays I'm playing with a gamepad, both with 720p and 1080p TV's, with the right settings. There is no latency whatsoever. But I didn't test it with a wheel yet, with the new TV's tho.

So, maybe there is no latency with the wheel either. I'll check that out once I get my hands on my wheels again (lend it to a friend).

👍

If anything is released pre-e3 than it will be one week before the event and not any time sooner (most devs/publishers don't release anything before the E3 and if they do its only one week, or a few days before the event).
But i still wouldn't be surprised if we don't get to see anything about GT5. It looks like we are going to see a new PSP and rumors say we are getting GT:Mobile at the launch of the new PSP. So my guess is that we will see a lot of PSP2 stuff and some GT:Mobile info, and i got the feeling they will hint to connectivity between GT:Mobile and GT5. But for some reason i think we will have to wait till the TGS before we get anything about GT5. And maybe Amar's post is about GT:Mobile and not about GT5 (the amount of cars and tracks in Amar's post look more reachable for GT:Mobile since the PSP2 will probably be able to render PS2 + graphics making it possible to reuse GT4's tracks and cars) And 2 versions: Just GT:Mobile and a Pack with PSP2.
Of course I'm hoping for GT5, but TGS seems like a more logical place to reveal it for PD.

+1

The hope to get any info about GT5 ended...

Except that Amar posted this thread in the GT5 sub-forum not the PSP sub-forum or the GT Mobile sub-forum

Well if they mention connectivity with GT5 than it is some sort of GT5 announcement as well. And if I where Amar and it is all about GT:Mobile I would post it in the GT5 forum as well. Much more visitors read it that way, and it's just much more fun to see people getting hyped up over GT5, to find out its all about GT:Mobile in the end :D

if this amar's tips are for gtmobile, tonight i want be banned forever...

we are joking i hope.... i have to wait december for a psp game than gt5 for ps3??? PD would be really ridicoulos...

I wouldnt worry about that, I think most internet sites agree that a lot will be revealed about both GTmobile and GT5 and all that Amar has said seems to reinforce that.
GT5 will be discussed at E3, probably even the main attraction (for us anyway).

As I said before making a GT Portable would not require much manpower however the awards would be absolutely huge. GT is such a huge franchise in EU it alone could help increase PSP sales and be a real 'system seller'. Sony could hire a couple more people to add to the PD team so the current employees would be able to concentrate on GT5.

That of Sony could just send their SCEE Cambridge supercoders whom are making LBP PSP to also make GT Portable in collaboration with PD. GT Portable makes too much sense but this is Sony after all, well at least we are less than a month away until all is revealed...........I hope. :/

I said this previously perhaps on a seperate thread but i do not see the point in releasing "GT Mobile" based on GT4 which will be 5 years old this Christmas. Then you also have advertising conflicts with GT5 on PS3 launching in the same time period causing confusion.

Im not a programmer or software developer, but im a business owner and it makes business since to utilise a major benifiting factor that Sony have and that, is a portable console that is compatible with the internet and the home PS3 console.

Thoughts:
Did they scrap the original GT4-Mobile when scraping GT HD in favour of a compatible GT5 PS3 & PSP Mobile version being jointly developed.
This wouldnt perhaps have all the features but it will allow many things to be done, particulary user gamesaves and account settings and their entire "My Page"
Why would Sony not capitalise on this major benifit they have over Microsoft allowing your AAA Franchise to be portable as well. Stats, replays, car paint schemes all transferable and interactive with online sharing, displaying and community networks.
This is an area FM3 cant touch at all and looking at how well Turn 10 used the internet in conjunction with user accounts in Forza and the "Car Market" with all the stats online it should only be copied or indeed bettered by P Digital.

I find it totally impossible that the worlds biggest gaming stage "E3" will not feature a major announcement and at least videos particulary as GT5 is expected by late 09.
Perhaps im wrong on this but didnt PSP, PS3 and most of Sony's BIG announcements ALWAYS come from E3?
Also the first ever "Suzuka" GT5P video was shown at E3 in 2007 so anyone that doesnt expect news on GT5 for E3 in my opinion are bonkers, particulary so when more and more rumours are that Microsoft are looking to unviel FM3 in full fanfare.
This could be the biggest E3 for Sony and Microsoft for many years and 2009-2010 is the period Sony will really start to get the PS3 moving.

A further set of points i would like to finish with is really WHY has GT5 taken so long to develop, WHY did GT Mobile never appear before and we were told it was on the backburner with focus on GT5, yet now its expected at the same time as GT5 or likely for PSP2 release (Assuming PSP2 for 4th QTR 09 or 1st QTR 2010) isnt that just a bit strange if both games arnt connected or jointly developed.
Crucial bit of info was that Amar said WORLD WIDE release and thats NEVER been done before with GT. Just think of the effort involved with all the launguage/translation which in the past has taken on average 3-6 months to be ready for USA and Europe. Perhaps further reason for the long developing time.

Did you know:
By the time GT5 releases will be approx 5 years since their last full release:
GT4 in Dec 2004

In the same amount of time Polphony Digital would of developed and released every GT game upto that GT4 Prologue release, amazing but true.
Gran Turismo 1997 - GT4 Prologue 2003
GT5 has taken the same if not possibly more time to develop than GT1-GT4 Prologue did.

GT5 will it be as amazing as we want it to be?
We will soon begin to find out...

I think everyone is expecting big news from Sony and PD especially after Amar's post. This will probably be one of the most crucial E3's in Sony history, they need something to get PS3's off the shelves faster than they have been.

I'm also guessing that they are taking so long since the PS3 is way more developed than previous systems. Several developers have already said that the PS3 is a pain to develop for, hence why most multi-platform games are ported from the 360 to PS3.

Seriously, Sony will be betting the future of their videogame business on a successful E3.

They need to launch PSP2/GO and multiple AAA titles that are as yet unanounced.

On the PS3 front GT5 not only needs to be shown, firm release details, including a 2009 release in at least one major territory, is crucial.

In addition they need a $50+ price cut, even more new I.P's, greater PS3 functionality, and 2009 releases for many of their already announced major titles.

It's make or break for Sony, the PS3 and the PSP, they can't delay major announcements any longer.

I do expect all of the above and more to actually happen.
