from what i understand of games design all you would need to do to achieve this would be to program a game engine to calculate the physics and then just make each panel or part of car have enough polys to enable the deformation and add a physics simulator constraint to it. Physics reactors in games are so advanced now its not unfeasable at all. All other games have it so it can't be as difficult as some seem to think it is

The licensing would be the difficult bit. However, if anyone can convince all the manufacturers though, it's PD. Fingers crossed.

just to back up what I said here

key line in the description "simple animation".
This kind of thing doesn't take long to render on good spec pcs and once you have rendered a deformation it can be "played" over and over again frame by frame and used as an animation in a game. Im sure GT5 will do some real time stuff but to think that deformation will be real time is crazy there has to be some pre animation im sure.

Let's see... What are the tracks we know will be in the game?

Eiger, London, Daytona, Indianapolis, Top Gear, Rally Toscana, Fuji, Suzuka, Tsukuba, High Speed Ring, Nürburgring and La Sarthe. That's 12. Any more? Well, I don't think there will be only 8 more unknown tracks. That'd be epic failure..

Not to mention those 8 tracks would have to have like 10 variations each.

I really wish I knew how to multi-quote. More realistically, 2 each :p

This is what babylon translator says... ??
1,000 car models
170 kinds of premium models (it supports interior decoration, damage)
830 kinds of standard models (thing) which gave a model succeeded from 4] [グランツーリスモ compatibility)

i dont know if it helps

Do you guys think the 170 cars with "inside damage" could mean literally in the car, like engine & transmission, etc. Including NASCAR & Rally seems to really make sense with this because those 2 racing types have lots to do with how they perform inside?

oh, that makes much more sense. 170 race cars with mechanical+visual damage, all other cars with no damage or only visual damage.

Whatever the case, I'll be happy if GT5 has a Porsche GT3 and Lamborghini Gallardo. I'm not holding my breath, though.

I'm pretty sure you'll get the Lambo, as they will be in the PSP version and PD says everything in the PSP will be in GT5. You might get shafted on that Porsche though. Hope not though.

Thanks for your info, Lotrzyna. It seems you've given us a good translation that nobody wants to believe, so are just choosing to ignore :P

170 premium cars, 830 std (some from GT4) .... think a bit...

in GT5P we have, for example, the VIPER GTS 02, and this car was in GT4 and it has cockpit view right? so.....

all cars will have cockpit view because of that... because when they build a car they build it all... and otherwise the car glass must be black like GTR PROTO.. that's for amateurs... not for PD ;)

however.. damage might be only for 170 cars..... thats more plausible (some racing cars) 👍

PD better not release another press release like this again! Reading through all this interpretation is worse than actually waiting for GT5, lol. PD has created quite a lot of explaining to do.

BTW, does anyone know where in the world KY is? Or hell any Sony rep? Best way to get clarification is to go to the source.

So today we learned GT5 will have lots of cars, that about sums it up, right?

Nothing of real interest unless the floor demo shows up anything different to GT5P.

I'm still not sure on the "premium" cars. What does that entail? i really don't care much for damage, but i would like some more info in the future.

While your post makes sense, ive learned that logic is the last thing you should use when talking about Sony this console gen.

lol

Try, trying to help out the community by getting your busy and uninterested family to translate the night before a long-haul flight, only to have to defend the information constantly and convince people you aren't lying to prevent the spread of mis-information! lol

Thank you for noticing my post :)

But remember that Black Chamber has it done by native speaker.

Just to remind it:

Sorry to disappoint you guys but as I said before

170 cars with interior and damage and 830 with nothing - that is the correct translation of Japanese article, I do speak Japanese (not native but heading for lvl1 in far future and lvl2 next year - should be this year but I'm lazy :( ) and to defend myself - "a translation of this article" - the article might be wrong but since it is an official GT page I do not have any hopes for anything to be changed in future (that interior camera moving future is also not 100% it is "possible to be confirmed" but I am not sure if that is correct translation that is why I did not mention it before)

Thanks for your hard work, I would only change few things:

premium models have interior and can be damaged - 170 cars
standard cars have no interior and no damage - 830 cars

but of course interior will probably get broken too if accident occurs ;) - my comment only

tracks:

over 20 tracks with over 60 layouts

cars do roll-over now
damage represented perfectly dependently on collision

no info on oil change only car wash

museum - extended version of GT5 P museum

I am not being pernickety just waned to clarify some facts (about tracks mostly).

My other coments - only 20few tracks ? what the ...? the question is when will first DLC appear ?...

Hope for mission mode and more premium cars in DLC (and more trophies !) bdw no info about trophies... ;)

WRONG!! It has features that never crossed my mind.

We get a championship! with a points system! Then, we can put the races straight to youtube!

Apparently most people only care about a number of cars and tracks but I am stoked, psyched, and AMP'ed(lets go Jr. lol) about these features.

Well, they keep showing the same Countach. It wouldn't surprise me if it's the only lambo in the game. After 4 versions of the game, I've pretty much given up any expectation of my favorite cars ever being included in GT (except the RX-8), even though they're many other racing games. It wouldn't be nearly as frustrating if they would give some sort of explanation.
