Things you would like to see in GT5 other than cars?

The weather is a very good idea. I've got an idea using and weather, tyres and grip.

Tyres, Weather, and Grip

Whilst Gran Turismo 5 Prologue uses S1, S2, and S3, I'd also like to actually change between tyre manufacturers when tuning. I beleive this was in Gran Turismo 4 and I think it should be bought back. Basically half of the posts I've read involve tuning and it'd be a nice addition. It would also be appropiate for weather because each tyre would act differently to different surfaces. A manufacturer would also provide tyres for each type of weather, for optimum grip levels that you'll be able to change.

Changing Tyres

I'd also like to change my tyres half way through a race. For example, if it starts raining I'll be able to have a pit stop and quickly choose the tyre I would like to change. Instead of pausing the game, it would have a whole list of tuning options I'm able to change.

And maybe Polophony would take away the invisible walls, with damage I'd also likt to interact with objects on track.

For Full GT5
  • Damage
  • Practice mode where you just practice as long as you want online with 15 other drivers.
  • Time up to 24 hours an option for length of race not just laps or a combination of both, such as 6 hours or 1000km whichever comes first.
  • Day to Night cycles for every track
  • Ability to race a track at any time of day
  • Stat keeping for online (dont keep track of wins for obvious reasons)
  • Much deeper online mode with more options
  • Maybe some sort of engine wear or brake wear in endurance racing. Like oil getting old and hurting power from previous GTs but far more advanced

I don't necessarily know if I want this to be in GT5, but since GT5 will likely have Photo Mode, and hopefully will allow you to take pictures of any replay, it'd be pretty interesting if when taking photos of areas of tracks where people have died, faint ghostly images appeared on the image.

Maybe that could be a little minigame within itself. Maybe by finding and shooting such an area, you get treated to a brief little blurb which tells you about who died there and what happened. And maybe you even unlock a special car or something.

Gah. Perhaps I've been playing too much Fatal Frame.

:sick:Maybe you have because that doesn't sound quite settling

I would like to see a mode where you could drive in a city or a freeway. You must obey all traffic laws, and you must pass a general drivers license test in order to drive in the city first place(does not apply to practicing on tracks). There should be cops that pull you over if you break a law, and you get a certain amount of credits taken away. If you run, the cops would chase you on the freeway/city, all the while you try to control your car weaving through traffic (i know, this sounds an awful lot like need for speed)

I would see this as an advantage. you might learn to more precisely control the speed of your car, and maybe learn the characteristics of your car better.

I also want to see body damage that must be repaired by using credits. this would help by helping you learn not to be so reckless.

I want to see a SUBSTANTIALLY longer top speed test track. longer straights, because with some cars, you don't always reach its absolute top speed on just a little over half a lap.

There should also be a paint shop, so that if you buy a car, you arent just limited to the stock colors.

In the endurance races like the le mans, there should be alot more cars than just 6.

Ever notice that when you listen to the music in the game that the wind seems to drown it out(that is, if you even listen to the music)? My Chevy Lumina has something on the radio that adjust the volume depending on how fast i'm going. there should be something like that in the game.

I know its a game, but it would be more realistic if during the 24 hour races the drivers are switched every once in a while. Not having one person play, then another person play, then.... i mean in the game one driver gets out of the car, and another gets in.

If the tires get too worn out, they should burst, like in real life. Or have an engine failure like every 500 races. It should rain all of a sudden during a race. There should be wind, which would change acceleration and braking.

The maintenance of the car should be alot more in-depth than simply an oil change and a car wash.

Aye carumba that was a mouthful. i'll bet by gt 6 or 7, they'll have a system devised so that you have to pay for your own gas.

yaywalter: i take it you mean the famous race drivers that were killed on that particular track.

When you look to your left or right your virtual driver's head should do the same, even when looking behind you you should see his head look up into the mirror, I think this would be real creepy to have someone watching you in the virtual world racing online haha

It's beautiful to play games because if the world is in some economic crisis, at least games don't have to have any depression. So these things I'd like to express are about making extra money.

One thing I'd support is selling tuned car parts. I'm not sure of the possibility of having unequipped parts being able to be used for other cars. If you've played "Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2," there are some car parts specifically for a certain kind of car. So it's impossible to put car parts to upgrade an Inline-6 to be used on a car with a rotary engine. Still, I welcome selling tuning parts. Everything except those that are permanent (Port and Polish, Weight Reduction, etc.) can be sold when money is tight.

Two schools of thought for exchanging cars for others. TXRD2 had you be able to trade a car to knock off the cost of one car by having some extra cash to pay for a new car. I'm actually into the notion of exchanging and selling cars just to get more money. The effect of selling off cars you're not using to get something better is kind of like when sports teams trade players from one team to another (or others) all to acquire some big-name star. I had to trade lots of cars for me to get a McLaren F1 LM in "Test Drive Unlimited," so imagine trading in cars you're rarely using all to get a car you've wanted for the longest (granted your current finances plus the selling price of your cars (plus modifications) can pay for the car). Just selling a car and taking off all the equipped parts (but not selling them) can make you able to use those leftover parts to tune up cars that need tuning upgrades. Or you can just sell the car with its equipped parts to make a little more money at sale.

And as I mentioned in the previous paragraph, cars sell for 25% of its full price. I just wished they sold for 25% of its price plus modifications (for about maybe 50% of the price of equipped and even unequipped parts). Because let's face it- it's going to be old winning and selling the Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car and Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR continually just to win the most capable race cars. I understand it's a measure to limit cheating or whatever, but it's pretty damn tough and longish just to keep re-running races you've already beaten just to get some other car. You know, 4.5M Credits for a car that probably sells for $1,000,000 in real life. Why not just go back to making cars as expensive as 2M Credits rather than making the highest-end race cars sell for exorbitant prices?

After a while, I thought up some more things:

Realistic Dirt, Dust, Snow, And Water Particles: I would like to see a more realistic effects in the rally driving. When you hit a jump and land in a puddle, it splashes like real water, or when in the snow, it'll look like snow. When you go sideways, the dirt flys up with rocks going in the air. Rally would look so cool if they did.

Unassisted Entry/Exit To The Garage/Paddock: During a practice or test session, I would like to drive in and out of the garage/paddock in the pit lanes so I can more realistically make changes necessary to get my setup right or to shake down my newly aquired car and see what changes are necesssary to get it acclamated to the particular circuit.

Visual Aerodynamic Adjustments: I would like to be able to see the changes I make on the Rear Wing, on the Dive Planes, or on the winglets or endplates so that I have a better idea on the downforce setup I'm running. For instance, if I wanted to add a more aggressive downforce setup to my Audi R10 for Road America, or run a very trimmed out setup on my Riley MK XX for VIR, I want to see it.

I've gone back to playing Gran Turismo 4. One real pet peeve was the inability to tune cars with original parts from tuning firms. Only my 2004 Mazda Miata was able to have original tuning components. So I'd welcome more cars to be tuned with original parts. "Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2" had a very nice package in which you could install parts from different companies. The compatibility factor means that you could get more horsepower from performance parts by using a special combination of parts from three different companies. Anyone who played this game probably fell in love knowing that a car can make more horsepower just by using different parts from different companies. By choosing the right combination, a car can be at its full horsepower potential. Besides horsepower, care should also be given to original parts for suspensions, mufflers, and stuff like that.

I guess the thing in GT is that you can have a certain type of tire to be used even though you can select wheels from many different manufacturers. While I can't tell the difference myself, being able to choose different types of tires would be wonderful. Don't like the Goodyear rubber on your car? Change them to Michelin. Change them to Pirelli. Kumho wouldn't hurt. Racing tires are no different. PD will need to consider various types of tires, especially if we get drag racing. Drag racing radials would be something to look into. You can buy tires from the company you got your car from, but I'm talking about different brand tires. A realistic model for this would involve properly being able to tell what's the best tires to use for a certain car or for a certain race. A different brand of tire can offer better performance for any tuned car.

Good idea but I think that it would take up to much space . But we can only hope .

How do you mean "tuned with original parts". Do you mean, in the case of your Miata, the Mazdaspeed parts? Or do you mean mixing and matching parts like you referred to after? From what I remember most manufacturers had their own tuning brand (Mugen for Honda, Nismo for Nissan, Ford Racing for Ford etc) but there was also the tuner village at the bottom of the main screen where you could take many cars, if you wanted a Spoon tuned Honda instead of a Mugen one for example.

There are two things i would LOVE to see in the next GT. Allowing different time of day setting on tracks (an early morining romp at the Nurburgring would be fantastic) and some realsitic lighting from the vehicles headlights. The Gt4 variant was very weak in that department.

I would like the tire sounds and engine sounds improved and also would like to have option of turning on or off headlights and see the throw of your head lights in night time driving, if all these are done I will be content :sly:

i want, that every car had the reallife sound. not like gt4. the BMW M3 CSL had a terrible sound, just like the race car corvette and all touringcars

I would like to see the depreciated values be more realistic. In GT4, you could buy a 10,000 Cr car and sell it for only about 3,000 Cr. But, you could dump 100,000 Cr into buying parts, tires, and weight reduction kits, and the resale value would still be 3,000 Cr.

In real life, this would be like buying a rusted-out Duesenberg, spending tens of thousands of dollars restoring it, and then selling it for 500 dollars. Totally unrealistic.

I think that Polyphony started to explore this in GT4 with the Tuner Village. You can buy specialty parts from different tuners like HKS or Spoon or Blitz. But the parts were all exactly the same, both in performance and in price.

I agree that different tuners should have parts that are unique in performance. Not only would this be more realistic, but the constant search for the perfect combination of parts would add new depth to the game.

Okay. Let me explain this a little better. Some cars can be tuned by any of the 10 tuner groups in Gran Turismo 4 (mostly Japanese cars). You can buy parts for a car either from the manufacturer or the tuning group. For example, I could tune a Honda S2000 with either Mugen or any of the tuner groups in the Tuning Village that have parts for my S2000. When I meant "more cars to be tuned with original parts," that's because not every car you can tune in Tuner Village can be tuned with any of the parts original from the tuning group. I said "more cars to be tuned with original parts" because not every car that can be taken to the Tuner Village can receive original parts. I want to change that so that you get the absolute best aftermarket parts for any car that can be tuned in the Tuner Village as opposed to just getting parts from the manufacturer. Since not every car that can be tuned from the Tuner Village (as opposed to the manufacturer) has original parts ready-made for your car, I'd like more cars to be able to be tuned with original parts. You mod them up to be the best cars on the track on race day. Why not make an ultimate street car with this kind of package?

Try not to get confused reading this paragraph after reading the previous one. Something I've realized is that you still get basic parts from the Tuner Village firms. Just that only a few certain areas give you something completely original whether it's suspension, Stage 5 Turbo, or whatever. I think Tuner Village should allow you to get more original aftermarket parts that offer incredible performance equal or beyond manufactuer-offered parts. In other words, why get a Racing Muffler from Toyota Racing Development when you can get a high-quality Racing Muffler from somebody like Trial or HKS? Aside from Tuner Village specialists on certain cars, what about more companies that focus on specific car parts? Think of all the American car fans that would love to install a Flowmaster muffler to enjoy the sound of their V8 muscle? What about the sport compact people who want Tein suspension or something like that? Make Tuner Village more versatile and more open to a wide variety of cars.

In Perspective: "Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2"
The mixing and matching of car parts (TXRD2) mostly pertains to horsepower additions. In Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2, you can tune cars for horsepower by selecting pistons, crankshaft parts, and camshaft parts. Purchasing these parts to increase horsepower for your car is pretty basic. However, to get the most power from these parts, you must install car parts that will grant you the most horsepower. This doesn't come into effect until you purchase one specific part for your engine. After shopping around for one part, you'll begin to note that certain engine parts will deliver a shade more horsepower than the other four models (you can choose from five different companies). The key for more power was in getting the best compatibility of the parts.

This game has a feature I think would be pretty cool for GT5. Cars that are normally aspirated can have the option of installing a bolt-on turbo system. This will give your NA car a chance to enjoy turbo. From there, turbo cars can be equipped with an Intercooler, Turbine, and the Air Cleaner. Any car with a bolt-on turbo can give you the option to remove the bolt-on turbo to return to normal aspiration. Why would you want to modify a car to be a turbo? From my experience playing this game, I found that I could perform much better in race events and in drift battles by giving NA cars a bolt-on turbo. I would have never had such a great drift car (the Honda S2000) had I not installed a bolt-on turbo.

NOTE: If this idea does come along for GT5, equipping NA cars with a bolt-on turbo will disqualify you from entering the Normal Aspiration races. Get rid of the bolt-on turbo to compete in any NA races.

I also second the headlight thing. One button in GT4 was used for your "Special" thing, usually the Nitrous. Perhaps make it so that the "Special" can be used to turn on the headlights. Keeping nitrous means that players will need to reconfigure their joysticks so they can make room for turning on headlights and using nitrous.

As for sounds, I'm sure that the cars will sound better and perhaps more accuate using PS3 power. If not exact sounds, then at least something equal to "damn near accurate" sounds.

an windtunnel would be cool, to check your aerodynamic. with informations wich bodykit and spoiler is better for the performanc and aerodynamic for the car, if GT5 has an bodykit option

That makes sense now, thanks 👍

i want to reiterate my idea for options list when purchasing a car. instead of the nissan dealership showcasing 8 different skylines from the same year, just have one to choose, and then an options list to finish it off with. you choose color, wheel size, transmission type, you could even go as far as purchasing audio equipment. nix the radio and the in race music is turned off when your in that car (and shave a pounds.) nix AC to shave a few more pounds. etc etc.

Great idea BB, I've always wanted a game where you could have it be like you're actually buying a car. It could even go as far as having dealer accessories/parts and then in addition have the aftermarket parts.

Things i would like in GT5...
- Custom playlist :O
- Replay director, be able to put camera's on the track where every you want, following every car you want, onboard, hang camera's etc (like driver game) :dopey:
- Ability for custom button assignment for the second controller.
- 4 player split screen, would be epic!
