This Game on the outs?

ALL emphasize the steep learning curve and sheer complexity, especially regarding car setup.
It's not exactly steep. I think it's more peoples first impression after coming from other games. You just need to take a little time to adjust to the physics and the game in general. If you get to the point where you're comfortable with everything you'll appreciate it more.

Leave car setups alone for now, just stick with the available defaults until you get used to the game. Oh and my usual advice is to start less powerful cars and work upwards. Just like in GT!

There is an online rating system in which to advance which tracks both safety and performance.

Yeah as Mr G says the season pass with all it's extra tracks and cars is well worth it. Lot's of historical stuff - which you mentioned you like.

Further to what @IfAndOr said - start with low powered cars at tracks that you know really well. I suggest the Ginetta G40 Junior or the Ford Escort RS1600 (Road G).

I think the game and feel of the cars takes longer to get used to. It should be possible to drive both those cars without any assists and on the default settings.

There is a bigger difference in feel between the cars than with GTS so it takes longer to find the way of driving that suits each car. Also track position is much more important than on GTS - possibly because of greater grip variation across the width of the track - this makes it harder to produce consistent lap times. Also, whereas you might fumble your way round a corner on GTS, an incorrect line will probably be punished by going off track so you have to pick your passing spots more carefully.

I hope you got the Deluxe edition as the cars in the Season Pass are incredibly good - especially the 1970 Le Mans track and cars - the track was actually modelled from extra film shot during the making of Steve McQueen's Le Mans - a Porsche 908/02 was a camera car which completed the race covering 282 laps and had its film reels changed during the pit stops!

That McQueen movie is one of my all-time favourites. The 917K and Ford GT40 are my favourite cars. Great era.

Let's see who's the 1st person to complain this time next month.
I can imagine all the complaints from people who experts the world out off the game instead of just enjoying the game even with the minor errors.
Every thing that man has done is never 100 correct from the 1st day.

I have more miles at Historic LeMans than any other track. I ran it again last night with the Ferrari 512S. 232mph down the Mulsanne is incredible. What those guys did back in those days is just remarkable.

Guys, I’m jumping online to race a bit. My PS4 tag is the same as here. Hit me up if you want

Let me say this about @Sick Cylinder and @IfAndOr They will introduce you to some of the real hidden gems in this game. Were it not for them, I would likely be mostly running around in group 3 and group 4 cars.

Just a few weeks ago @IfAndOr introduced me to a new car

Had this game over 2 years and I found a car I’d never driven on a track I’d never visited. How’s that for depth? He’ll tell you that I was giddy over the experience.

Don’t get me wrong, there are moments (many, many moments) where I’m so frustrated that I swear I’ll never play this game again. Most of the time it’s my fault and usually a result of my lack of patience on the track. Sometimes it’s an AI driver who stupidly/aggressively ruins my race.

Thanks, slthree.

My disc is in the mail, and I'll be sure to contact you (all) when I get it!

Can’t wait for you to join.

I can’t remember the last time I got a disk myself. But, I do remember I used to love when they arrived. But come the week was agonizing

since I download everything digital now, I kind of miss that experience

I couldn't wait. Splurged on the whole lot, downloaded it all via console, including Season Pass. I'll keep the disc as backup if I need it, or see it to my local JB Hi-Fi, or games shop.

Not sure how to set up a racing identity, which I will need to do the career, either. There didn't seem to be a really obvious option for me to do that, but it must be there.

I'm really looking forward to progressing through a career path, but it seems to be 'greyed out". The link is there, but does not seem to be active. I only spent an hour or so with it, and tried driving in a race that they offered. I think the track was Long Beach.

The force feedback was full-on. I'm sure it is customizable, though. One of the things I am looking forward to is the complexity and options, but GT Sport is playable straight out of the box (sort of why it is regarded as sim-arcade, I suppose).

Still, I'm quite excited. Thanks for the welcome.

I believe everything is grayed out because it’s still downloading and installing

Thanks! I also read that a new player has to complete the first race that the game 'offered', almost as a tutorial. I'm away from home from a day, so will complete that first race when I return.

Note - you don't have to do the career - it's a matter of choice! There is enough in the game to play it the way you want to. For example for me I like trying out the historic cars on different tracks. I run 5 or 10 minute races starting last out of 4 or 5 cars and build up my speed until I can start last in a big field at a higher AI level. (I prefer to run the AI at 100 aggression otherwise they seem reluctant to overtake). I don't bother with the qualifying or practise sessions as the AI seems to vary too much. Everyone plays and enjoys the game differently. I think I've only done half a dozen career races since the game was released.

It's as @slthree says until the game is fully downloaded it blocks access to many features. You are limited to Long Beach and a McLaren 720. Close concrete barriers and a supercar is a strange choice to introduce anyone to the game!

That's 5 more than me then. :)

By now I sound like a broken record, but I have been saying that this is an incredibly deep game for an older console with limited power compared to a PC.

I love the career mode and play it a lot which is probably why there are still so many tracks and so many cars I have not yet discovered. There are so many ways to play this game.

@Sick Cylinder doesn’t do the practice sessions or the qualifying sessions before a race. I do them both. We both enjoy the game.

On a sidenote, I have gone back and tried to play GTS, if for no other reason than to just do something different. I’ve done 6 or 7 races in sport mode. It was entertaining (I gained 2 places in all but 1 race) but it still lacked a certain “feel”. So, although I didn’t need to, I decided to run a test.

I took one of my favorite cars, the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and ran a 21 lap race at Monza GP track.

I ran it first in PC2. Fantastic race for every second of the 21 laps
Next up I ran it in GTS. From about the second lap I was bored and I kept saying to myself this just doesn’t feel the same and by the seventh lap I just bailed out on the race all together.

The most appealing thing to me when it comes to GTS is that you can select up to 7X or even 10x tire wear and fuel consumption which forces multiple pitstops. I love pit stops. This is really the only thing I want to see added for the next iteration of project cars

Unless somebody has played a lot of PC2 they can’t really understand the differences. That car on both games is one of the best examples of how different they are.
