Is the special event still on tonight?

Okie dokie, I've put up the thread for next season! (Yes, already!!)

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5362534&posted=1#post5362534

If you'll still be with us, it would be good if you could just pop in your registry post. We can have teams also, so you'll want to think about that ("who wants to be my wingman?" XD). The greater the registered interest, the more attractive the series, and face it, we could use more entrants!

I might make it tonight and I'll test in a possible car for next season.(FR, of course) and see if it's good or if I need to change car, or drivetrain.

Sweet, hope to see you! I'll drop you an add.

Oh, I might be up for a special guest appearance!

Expect me in an GS300, and expect me to be a backmarker. ;)

Look for out PSN friend requests - race is in my private lounge, opening in 20 mins.

That was a fun race... despite the fact I didn't know the track at all. (I don't think I ever did it in reverse before ever!!) I wound up doing my best time on the very last lap I completed. haha. And despite the fact I had a heckler... er I mean spectator sitting next to me commenting on everything from what was happening on the rest of the map, to the state of my tires during the race. haha.

Oh, and I apologize if I was smoking tires a lot - the people who passed me (or lapped me) later in the race. You can't see smoke in the rear-view mirror, so I wonder now if I was smoking up a storm & didn't know it. I thought the heckler spectator was exaggerating when he told me my tires were gone & pressuring me to pit. They didn't feel too bad until the lap before I decided I needed to pit - and then I forgot & missed the pit... and when I went into the pit, I was shocked to notice just how black the indicator was. Sports soft tires sometimes seem to "trick" me... because after they get not so good, they get this long last plateau where it doesn't get any worse for awhile & I can still drive normally, & so I get lulled into a false sense of "I can stay on these tires".

I hope I'll be welcomed back again... and get a chance to improve. And better prepare of course. :D
I really enjoy road cars. Even if I'm still terrible with the online racing.

Apologies for missing the race 19L, Fridays are pretty bad nights for me to race at the moment. Thinking of doing any events this weekend as its a bank holiday?

Welcome any time, Watermelon, just stop putting yourself down! Funny thing about lady racers - they're either seriously good, or held back by their lack of self-confidence. I know, I've seen many at Brands Hatch club events. If she's not right up front in the thick of the fight, she's cruising at the back. I hope you develop into the former...!

No worries again, xku, but be aware that you're trailing in the league now. I know though, it's just how it sometimes is with stuff. That said, and also considering that I might not be able to do this Monday myself, how does everyone feel about doing Monday's race tomorrow? It would make next week a tad less busy, race-wise. Also, would we like it to be a proper, championship point-scoring event? It's a difficult track, so extra practice beforehand would be fine.

Yeah I noticed just now that I'm more than likely going to end up last, I'll try my best for the next Friday night events however I can make the next regardless whether it's Monday/Sunday.

I'm fine with Sunday... same time?

And btw - it's not a lack of confidence... Well, in the case of yesterday's race it was mainly a case where I expected Grand Valley Speedway... No practice at all before I joined your lobby. haha. I didn't have any accidents though.
I tried a variety of cars today on your Toscana track. Then I tried the 135i... eeek. That's a dangerous track for it. I don't know that I have a technique for those angular turns in the 135i. They seem to upset the car a lot. Oddly though, the 135i seems to handle the hinky off camber hill turn much better than other cars.

I can't made plans already with a race and also got a test session for another championship.

Sorry about putting you guys through that fiasco...that track may be good for time trials, it's horrible for racing, I think. I'm gonna have to modify it...

So, I've decided not to award points for Toscana, same as originally planned, because it's not really fair on those who couldn't make it, the change of schedule was too short notice, and also, it was just rubbish and messy.

Tonight: Tokyo. Has to be good!

PS. Last time, I was interrupted during the race - I had to go and do something right then.

That's cool 19L, you know we happily finished without you ;) half 9 tonight and I take it qualifying opens at around 8/half 8?

See you at quarter to nine.

I've updated the Triple-S thread - there are new regulations. I think they're better in every respect.

Tokyo was easily the best race so far, me and Phayz were neck and neck from the beginning all the way to the end. It's a real test of your skill and consistency when it's that close, I never realised.

I know for a fact I'll probably be at the back of the crowd for this next race, la sarthe is not one of my strongest tracks (there are a couple of corners that always mess me up!) but it'll be interesting to say the least.

Xk, I still can't believe you've been running so heavy all this time. Shed some kilos, and get your gear range spot-on, you'll do better than fine, I'm certain.

It's pretty quick considering the weight, I always find cars and bit of a handful once I've reduced the weight significantly. I might have a play around on one of my spare 135's before the race tonight.

The 1400kg mark is what you should aim for - the car'll be sufficiently nimble and grippy while still packing a punch.

Good point, I'll try it later on a test car just to make sure it doesn't become a bit of a handful for the race.

That was an exhilarating race with xku last night. I never knew how much concentration and skill is required to keep a good lead.

I think xku might have the edge on this race when he sheds them kilos. It will however, decrease his power which might become an advantage to me. ;)

We'll see, I'm ready for another challenging race.

I find it difficult when I reduce weight significantly too. Sometimes it's as if the car suddenly becomes like a ski boat on waves. haha.

With the 135i, I found that taking some weight off, then adding some ballast back & shifting it to one way or the other a tad, I was able to get the car to sort of roll on turning a little more controlled. Not sure how to explain it. I find ballast position sometimes useful in tuning with some cars... but I haven't a clue of why it works with some cars for me. I just know that it has something to do with the suspension settings - because I usually have to adjust both together.

This of course might be a newbie tactic, I don't know - because I tend to NEED to tune to give me a little more stability. On a track in my own MYlobby by myself, I can often take a car and go pretty fast and have a good time it. But then when I get on a track with other people, and have to do more sudden decision making, I tend to decide on more stability - because if I can't control the car when I have to divert from my plan, I can't go fast at all.
It's one of the reasons I'm interested in this race league (or whatever you call it)... because I can take cars like this around tracks all day by myself, and never be able to do the same things once you put other cars around me!
(I'm pretty new to all this.)

I'm pretty new to it too, only had my ps3 since the end of March and I hadn't played GT since 4 got boring god knows how many years ago.

I know what you mean though, some cars require that little tweak in order to handle well and stick to the track. Others have it naturally. I find I tend to overtune cars and end up ruining them but I've started to get a bit better now.

You missed a brilliant race last night, me and Phayz were fighting it out for 4th the whole race and I only just clinched it on the second to last lap, very tense race. I might just leave my 135 all overweight to keep up that tension!

I'm the same as you, it looks like we got the ps3, gt5, and joined this forum right around the same time.

And I've only been playing racing video games for less than 2 years, and only regularly since a console game player started co-habitating with me last year. ;) I also had ZERO knowledge about cars at all. :( I have a super clean driving record in real life ;), but that's about all I can say. :D )

Yes, yes. I think some cars already have a nice weight balance in the right places or something. And that's why some cars just do better at the same weight or PP, even tho paper-wise, it wouldn't seem the case. I'm always very wary of paper-wise looks of a car!

One thing I've come to believe without question is that it's MUCH MORE DIFFICULT to set-up a car so it can perform well in MANY aspects, if it's fully maxed out. It's like ripping away the good aspects of a car, and then introducing more flaws! LOL :D

Sorry I missed it I was on a road trip! I even had practiced on Tokyo, and I actually feel like I might be getting better on that track generally. I'm awful with that track. I just squeaked in on the Super license at bronze on that track, with sheer luck. I'm much better with the other city tracks. Tokyo has some non-obvious tricky combo turns that trip me up. And that 1st L corner is a different animal completely depending on the car you're in.

Apologies for jumping off PSN so quickly watermelon, I didn't realise the time! (I have to get up in 6 hours - damn work) If you're free tomorrow before the race I'll be online at 7pm GMT and we could get in a couple of practice laps.

I messed up the last race, shredded my first set of tires by the 5th lap and then came pretty close to shredding the second on the last. Crashing on the second to last didn't help either!

Very true, some cars behave a little better when taken to the limit but a lot do fall apart.

Hey no prob xkubunt... I figured something came up. Easy to lose track of time - I do it all the time. Def let me know for future. I'm still trying out cars for the Triple S.

I'm most likely going to miss the race tonight because I probably won't be back from doing yard work :yuck: in time. :(
I'm disappointed because by myself last night I was actually able to do the nurb track in maybe not very fast to other people... but my time was far less than what I would've thought possible for me in that car, before participating in these races. I definitely think I'm improving in a way I couldn't by myself.

The last race, I really had fun last night. Thanks guys! It was exciting.
Maybe it was my imagination, but the lights on the 135i seemed like they're better than a lot of cars I've used in the dark. It was surprising actually. HAHA.
I just wish I'd been paying closer attention to the map, & I wasn't caught by surprise by 19L going to lap me when I getting sloppy at the end section. And I really want to state emphatically, it's very important to me not to get a reputation for being a sloppy nuisance!!
I was doing tons better with my tires than I was previously though! Hardly too bad at all considering I muffed up with some spins a couple of times.

And from my position of the action, I have to say zwyatt (learningcurves?) was really impressive to me. He was way out behind me at one point he disappeared from my map & didn't see him for ages, and then really came up from behind.

I fell behind early on (thanks to my tires going) and had to race my ass off to catch up with you watermelon, I got a couple of 4:22's then eventually saw your rear lights on the straights.

Whats the power/weight on your 135? It seemed like it was much easier to control than mine however mine was a beast on the straights, got up to 185mph at one point and sat there amazed at the little thing.

I'd have to look again to see the power/weight on mine. Because I've tinkered with it several times, & now I don't remember. I'd say ballpark the weight is not more than 1440.

If my car looks like it was easier to control than yours - it probably is, because believe me, I'm not particularly deft in the ability department. But I've become quite extreme with tuning. HAHA.

I'm using some ballast somewhat toward the rear. I have full LSD with the initial maybe 1-2 above default, the accel a tad above default, and the brake several notches below default. I also use a bit of brake bias to try & force some braking oversteer so in a pinch I can compensate a bit for mistakes made on turns with the brake, instead of lighting up the back tires trying to oversteer it out of corners I'm too late on. This is allowing me to get myself out of trouble when I make mistakes, without burning up the tires & then having to really nurse it back from the brink when I'm straightening it out.
My suspension settings... I found the Toscana track so tough that I just went to the Tuning section here, & tried the most radical suspension set-up for the 135i that I could find. For the last race, I kept it fairly the same, with just a couple of minor adjustments to loosen it back up, & bring back some of the roll. It seems to work.

I can't complain about the car at all really. It's quite lovely. I'm really starting to like it a lot. At this point it's my driving it that's the only real problem.
