This time I envy 360-owners

I'm lucky in that I have a 360 and PS3 so get to sample both console and compare all of the competing games.

For those of you worried about a decent wheel for the XBox, your worries are now over:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=112085

That wheel will work on 360 and PS3 AND if the hype is to be believed it will have force feedback, quality and feel that not only rivals the G25 but beats it.

For those who post saying that they refuse to pay for online........well it's your loss really.

My XBox came with a copy of Forza2 & Gears of War, I bought an M$ wheel, an extra controller and payed my years subscription to XBL and after trading in a load of old PS2 games and an old PS1 it all cost £70 less than a PS3 with a controller on their own did.

I decided that the M$ wheel wasn't worth the money so returned it and bought the Logitech DFX (XBox 360 Wheel) for less than half the price of the M$ one, so saved another £40, making a happy racer on an XBox who payed £110 less for his experience than a PS3 gamer who only had a substandard demo of what could be a good game (GT5P) and an F1 game with rubbish online support to race on.

That comparison may be a little out of date as that was 18 Months ago but to put it into perspective I payed £40 for a years XBL which roughly equates to 77pence a week. In the last 18months I have driven over 40,000 happy and reliable miles in Forza2 which is an average of 75 Miles a day and never regretted it. I've had great value for money.

And now with RACEPro just around the corner, Forza 3 a real possibility and Ferrari Project on the horizon things look great on the racing front in 360 land.

I bought my 360 specifically for Forza and am still very happy with it.

On the other hand.

I got my PS3 free with a new mobile phone contract so I felt it would be rude not to buy GT5P. It's OK, got nice graphics and Physics and the Wheel support is second to none but the online is shocking, the standard of the races I've come across online is disgusting and the AI is even worse.

Now I play Ferrari Challenge online which is an OK game and a great simulator for driving physics but it is seriously let down by the PS3's lacklustre online capabilities and the Comms online.

As much as I enjoy racing with my mates on the PS3, every time I do I can't help thinking how inferior the experience is (Technically) to the XBox, to that end I am happy to pay less than the price of two bars of chocolate (or a fifth of the price of a pack of cigarettes) a week for XBLive and know that it works properly.

Online on the PS2 was better and just as free, so how did they mess it up so badly this time around?

If I had payed good money for my PS3 I would be a very disappointed customer

For those of you worried about a drought of racing games on your PS3's next year........despair no more, Eutechnix are currently developing a racing simulator which is due out in the first quarter of next year.............they're keeping their cards very close to their chests about it at the moment but an official announcement is due on December the 15th.

Well, that didn't look very realistic now did it?
It seems if you get steering angle right, you can do an infinite drift in an almost straight line... :s
I admit, this vid shows some of the weak point of GT5P (no skidmarks etc), but if I wanted to go arcade style I wouldn't be typing this, would I?

It wasnt at all.
I can give you tons of good online game examples, the only one that really sucks is GT.

Maybe but as racing online is a priority for my gaming time then I only really have the racing games to make a comparison. On that front the PS3 just plain does not deliver.......yet I can think of no game out there where the online is better on PS3 than on XBL so to that end I stand by the whole 77Pence a week is money well spent.

I think the big difference here is that one service is FREE... the other you have to pay for... Now if you think logically... of course the service you pay money for will be better. Because that online experience has funding and is able to develop. Sony decided to make it free... so thats probably why its so simple compared to Xbox. Speaking for myself, I dont want the hassle of having to pay for my online experience alongside my many electric and telephone bills, etc. Just buy a console, hook it up to internet and I´m done... But les not let this turn into a XBox vs PS3 thread... because thats not what this thread is about right

This thread should definitely be put in the 360 section. It's spiraling out of control because of all the negative ps3 fans.
Really though, you don't need to envy 360 owners. Just start saving some money, and by the time forza 3 is out, you'll be able to buy a 360, and maybe even a good wheel. You could get both the 911 wheel and 360 for less then a ps3.

I've said it once and i'll say it again. Forza 2 is just too arcady and cartoon like for me. I dont like the way the cars just look like their hovering across the track. But dont get me wrong this really impressed me and theres no dout that GT5 will feature these elements in it. Video is very impressive and made me smile and think back to when I was a Drifter in Forza 1 back on the Orginal Xbox. Was head of a Clan and it was heaps of fun. But for some reason Forza 2 just doesnt and cut it for me. But yes as people stated it was already in the GT5 Prologue Drifters Forum so the threads not relevant to GT5 Prologue.

is this forza? i thought it was the trailer of Fast and the Furious part 43

Absolutely, it's not a vs subject, there's plenty of those threads ruined by mindless fanboy's around here and on the Forza forums. I was just pointing out the good and bad in both. We all know that both consoles and games have their failings and like Bevo said if you're clever enough to save your pennies and Christmas money up, anyone without a 360 could easily own one and a Fanatec wheel by the Summer time then like a lot of us we can all have the best of both worlds.

Nice video. Forza has nice features but the fundamentals (car handling and models of the cars and tracks) are not as good. I think that the car handling in the replays of earlier GTs appears more realistic. As others have said, the car looks like it's floating / on ice.

I've given Forza 1 and 2 a chance. If it was truly a GT alternative, I'd have bought an XBox for it. I'd be surprised if Forza 3 is much of an improvement.

It is a great video even if does show a bit of the weird side of FM2's physics.

However, something like this can be created with GT5. All it'll take is just what it took BlackJack to do. A lot of practice, a bunch of good drifters, and a long time in the editing room. It should be "easily" capable in GT5 thanks to online now.

Great video, Definatly the best and most put togeather drift video I've ever seen.

And I agree with you sir. I belive it should be done! *cough*DriftTeams*cough*

Someone metioned the races in forza 2 are more about the tuning than the drivers....have to agree to a certain degree about this but the tuning is part of the game. I've been playing Forza 2 since release day and I'm still enjoying it, personaly though GT5p actualy surpasses Forza 2 for me. That buzz you get in an online race when your trading places lap after lap in an online race is for me greater on GT5p. Maybe it's the graphics giving greater imersion or the slightly more forgiving contact physics making getting in close less risky of taking you or your opponent off (the only thing I can point a cynical finger at concerning Forza 2)
I'm not into console bashing, I own both consoles and also run a forum for online gaming on all consoles.......I also engoy both Forza 2 and GT5p Like has been said so eliquently by a few, it's about the racing

If everyone cares that much about what's better between GT5 and Forza, why not just buy R-Factor and a decent PC?

Jesus Christ...

This video is a litlle strange... the cars appears to fly.
I don't know, think GT5P is better.

Then another decent PC in 18 months, and another decent PC 18 months after that.... I gave up on PC gaming because of the hardware upgrade treadmill and constant hacking of games (rFactor advertises "Security checks to combat potential cheating" as a feature).

I've seen Forza 2 played at a friend's house and it does look fun, but the damage everybody raves about is very arcade. It looks good, but is pretty unrealistic in terms of its effects. Your car just gets slower as the engine gets more damage, to the point where you can only get enough power to go 20mph, but it's miraculously still running. I know you have to balance the simulation and gaming aspects to an extent, but Forza 2 seems to go too far to the gaming end of the spectrum for my tastes. I hope GT5 doesn't follow, or at least makes more realistic damage an option.

+1:tup:

The cars look like the hovering because the tracks in that video are all bumpy tracks like the TT tracks and the ring but you cant see the bumps in the track in the video.

Yeah plus the setup the drifting guys use in Forza 2 is prety insane and dose give the cars a floaty look...after all thats what there after.

Forza drifting is alot different to GT drifting forza is more about speed so people use S class cars and have drift races rather than drifting for points. it might look weird but if your playing racing games because of the looks, your playing for the wrong reasons.

I have to say, I'm having trouble convincing myself to NOT buy a 360 just for FM2. I read a bit about FM3, and its getting even more difficult... I'm not bothered about Gears or Halo or any of that, just Forza. I played it at a friend's house, within a few hours (yeah...) I had an AE86 Corolla GT with the 3S-GTE from an MR2 Turbo, which was tuned to something like 600bhp and the car weighed less than that in kilogrammes. I so severely hope GT5 has engine and drivetrain swapping, it would add so much fun for people like me... I think I also saw that you can put the FR drivetrain from an S2000 in a CRX Del Sol and a 911 GT3 motor in a 1970's Carrera RS! It was insane.

But thats basically all I want it for, but if FM3 has as many cars and tracks as they're saying (400 cars, 100 tracks) then it'll be hard to say no, I'm just worried it'll get brushed aside when GT5 comes out.

Yeah physics in Forza are not realistic. I know GT5P is not as well.. but way more realistc over Forza.

If your on the brink of buying a 360, just go ahead and do it. If you buy it with an open mind you will really enjoy it. If you buy it with the intentions of hating it, then I'm sure you will. If you like online gaming, then you will surely love the xbox. The only ps3 games you will buy after playing the xbox online, is the ps3 exclusives. If it's out on both consoles then you will probably start buying it for the 360. Really, the only games I play on the ps3 are socom, and GT5p. The online is just so much better on the xbox, it's really a shame. You will be very disappointed with the ps3, after getting use to the 360.

Be warned though. I am on my 4th xbox now, because of the red rings of death. All have been fixed for free, but it takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks to get it repaired. But if you already have a ps3, then it's not that big of a deal, because you will have the ps3 to fall back on.

Anyway, if your on the edge, don't worry about wasting money on an xbox 360. It's worth it. It will change the way you play online.

I stopped playing Forza 2 a very long time ago, maybe about a year ago now. Its too arcade compared to GT5, and the graphics are a little on the cartoon side. Some of the online racing was fun though. But in the end most classes had a few cars that dominated which made racing boring. GT5P suffers from this but the difference is that as you change PP in GT5 the cars that are best change. Through the tuning in Forza2 no matter what the class the fastest car was either a huge 70's muscle car or a AWD whatever with sticky tires, low weight and max areo.

I'll look towards Forza3 with interest, but honestly I doubt turn 10 have it in them to top GT5, at least in terms of physics and graphics. They will probably have better online options.

I agree completely. I hope PD really reads these forums, and try and make GT5 an online experience. Single player racing games are beginning to get very boring. People want to race other people. The A.I. just can't compare with another person trying to outrun you. If GT5 doesn't have a robust online format (tournaments, leagues, clubs, private rooms etc.) then I doubt it will have the appeal of past GT's, and I doubt people will make excuses for the full release, like they have prologue.

Umm na man. I use the same setup I did in the video as I do in GT5.

You are wrong to, people use other cars beside S class. The drift racing you speak of is done by people new to drifting or people that watch to many Fast and Furious moveis. Also there is no points system like in GT5 and even GT5's point system is dumb.

.

Hmm do you mean you use the same settings to drift in GT5 as you do in Forza 2? I've run a few setups of the forza forums and there.....wel lets just say you wouldn't try and race with those setups LOL

I'm having to disagree with Bevo regarding just buying PS3 exclusives and everything else on the 360. I mainly play Rainbow 6 vegas and Forza 2 on the 360 and thats it, everything else I have is on the PS3. I am looking foreward to Race pro and Forza 3 on the 360 but thats it. I supose you game with your friends and on what system they have, the differences between Live and PSN is so slight now there is no real major diference apart from friends chat......but then theres the issue of subscription.....I'll not even raise that issue LOL

Jesus Christ...

Well, then one opens the can of worms in the debate of rFactor vs. GTR vs. LFS vs. iRacing vs. NetKar... and how many console simmers really want to deal with that? ;)

The reason the cars look like they're "floating" is because most of these shots are from online replays. Online replays in FM2 are a bad representation of how the actual online race went. In reality, Online racing in FM2 is much smoother compared to GT5:P as long as your racing with proper people. I've seen plenty of GT5:P racing/drifting videos shot live online and not from replays, and you can tell cars like to hover around also.

I supose you game with your friends and on what system they have, the differences between Live and PSN is so slight now there is no real major diference

I highly disagree with you there, but I respect others opinion, and rather not start a "Console war"
