Those pics of the ZR1... is that tire deformation?

I hope PD models tires so that area of wheel contacting tarmac changes it shape as it does in reality in different situations. It does not really matter to me how good this physics thing is tied to tire deformation graphics but it would be cool.

I noticed the tire deformation as well when I first saw the pics. There's no way they'd release the pics with the tires clipping into the ground. At the very least it's just simulated tire deformation, but with it being confirmed for Forza 3, I think PD has taken notice of it and will have it implemented in the final product.

Actually the first console racer that will come with tire deformation is SHIFT and before anyone says "****" it can't better than FM3- Doug Arnao, in charge of SHIFT's physics engine has been involved in the racing sim genre since Grand Prix Legends (he was the lead tester) and then you have Eero Pitulainen who's doing the tire physics for SHIFT and he's the guy behind Robert Burns Rally. In other word- it's probably the real deal. As to GT5- I'll believe it when PD announces it.

i'm failing to see why people think that is CGi...

it's not, it's the gt5 model. I'm sure Everyone knows this... But in gt5p the corrvettes C6 versions of any kind, Always have there park lights, tailights, side light's etc on. its highly visible in tunnels. and the london track, when the tailights are lit when there is no braking.

rest my case. that is deformation on a gt5 model.

Indeed, that definetly looks like it's clipping into the floor. Until we don't get pics like that for GT5, I'm going with that theory. This is a PSP game.

Is it also clipping into the rumble strips?

You would hope they have tire deformation physics in GT5. I saw a preview of Forza a couple of days ago and they have included it in their physics engine.

Forza looks great btw! And yes I am a GT fan and bought a playstation just for the game that I still cant play.

I know people found a picture of a WRC Focus on some crests, there was bits of tyre on the course i remember that.Maybe it's in that photo.

Robert Burns Rally xD :dopey:
Sorry mate, but I have to correct you here, it's Richard Burns Rally-one should now this guy. He was awesome, but died 2 years ago or so, unfortunately.

No man, Robert is the brother of Richard.
He was jealous so he made his own rally game with great tire deformation.

Well, there was talk of PD taking a little trip to see FM3 production. And I would be VERY surprised if PD didn't implement MORE than FM3 offers, to keep ahead.

I'm not putting down GT here... of course not... but I reckon that seeing Forza 3 must have been a bit of a wake up call.

So, I think it's pretty likely we will see tyre deformation. And, also, all the other things FM3 has - I know, I know, there are huge arguments over skidmarks and reverse lights. But if these were included, it'd shut everyone up, right? :sly:

Colin Mcrae died 2 years ago, RB died in 2005.

It seems the sidewall flex is the big thing in all this, it's easy for any game to claim it's doing tyre deformation, but the truth is it has a lot of factors that can be taken into account, we'll never know exactly what is being modelled unless the developers go really indepth.

End of the day, it's how it feels that is important, I do think PD will enure the cars all feel good to drive, irrespective of what 'physics' are running underneath, which is all I really mind..

Cheers guy's, thats something quite useful i just learnt:). Any way here it is, it's just an image icaptured from E3 trailer.

Looking through the whole trailer it seems to me that tire deformation is not yet implemnted in game, this just seems to be clipping, but the good news is i guess it means that scene with the scooby was probably real time.

We understand you can have a trailer with real game play or Presentational Gameplay (garage graphics) and have some tire clipping when the car is in motion. But what some of us don't understand why do PD include tire clipping when car is stationary?

My theory, Clipping is done on Porpuse, to simulate tire deformation without actual tire bending.

^That's a half-assed substitute for PD to do honestly. I don't think they would do that when they can call themselves detail freaks

Agreed looking at all these pictures it looks like clipping, that would be a pretty shabby attempt at making a tire look deformed otherwise. Them ZR1 pics are confusing though, i mean they look nothing like PSP screens even though they claim to be, there's either some confusion or Bulls*** going on somewhere. I don't really care if you see tire deformation though, i only care that the car behaves like it should and that the tire physics are improved. I mean if this really is an attempt to show tire deformation then it's pretty half assed imo, but then again i don't think it is.

I still don't believe for a second what we are seeing is visual tyre deformation, IMO it's clipping.

As for the rally picture it could be the tyre digging into the dirt, the reason I say this is on a track with dirt or grass in GT5P, put a tyre or two on the grass/dirt and spin the tyre, you will see the wheel bog itself down into the grass/dirt.

That E3 picture is probably clipping, or the tires sinking into the dirt maybe?:dopey:

I dont think that GT5 will have tire deformation. The rally pic proved it in my opinion.

And I think the tire is clipping at the ZR1 pic too

Tire deformation would be nice, but I could live without it. There are other, more important things to do.

To be fair, that footage could be months old. We'll just have to wait and see if we'll get visual tyre deformation.

I was reading the topic from SpyHunter, and I decided to use Photoshop to see it... It seems that it is a real deformation and not a glitch! Well... At least in the first picture the front tire seems to be defromated and the rear isn't...
I think with these pictures clearer will be easier to analyse...

Wow that's great man, im pretty sure that is tire deformation on those screens. It wasn't on the otheres like the rally pic, but on these you can clearly see the change in tone of the tire just before it touches the ground, it does seem to be curling under.
The only question in my mind now is wether these pics were just renders or wether there will be deformation in game?, but im pretty sure that's deformation. But if it is, the tires look a little flat lol.

So, maybe this is what they've been polishing up? Forza is sure in for a wake-up call when PD drops all the info on GT5...
