Those pics of the ZR1... is that tire deformation?

Just don't stick your head into sand, tire deformation is just part of the reality that have been missing in GT and the whole tyre model with fake N - R grade tyres, lack of good computing of grip, tyre deformation and low speed friction is almost certainly the worst part of GT physics.

LFS still looks and feels the most realistic sim game i have played in terms of physics. And that game also runs on very slow PCs so no excuses here for console game developers.

But it looks bad, low resolution textures, low polycount cars and such things make it run on weak systems. The visual representation of tire deformation might even be switched off for weaker systems. The visual representation is irrelevant.

WOW, looks great 👍 I should get LFS :)

LFS Physics, further developed and merged into GT5 engine, it would be miracle. PD could afford those guys and they could be happy that they helped developing the best driving game of all times. But I should better wake up...

Didn't you read the starting of the movie? Who cares if you 640x480 resolutions when you're too busy playing? It certainly looks very realistic, and I haven't even played it.

So? I read it and it wont change what i said, it looks bad. This is my opinion and iam entitled to have one. I am playing PC sims aswell (GTR2, GTR Evo, GT Legends) and i ignore that they look bad, because of the physics. I said the game looks bad, which is the reason it even runs on weaker systems and i dont think its the physics engine that consumes most of the power. They could definately do that on the PS3, but they have their own way to handle things and they will include it if necissary. I just said that visual representation of tire deformation is barely visible in replays. When you do slowmotion and photomode or something it could be interesting, but i dont care for photomode.
Why is everyone so much into this visual tire deformation thing, its wearthless if the tirephysics are not good.

I read about Live for Speed right after this was posted and on their homepage they admitted, that their tirephysics model was not good enough for roadcars, so they will reinvent the system. The cars in general had to much grip, but fact of the matter is, that visual deformation does not make bad physics good. And good physics are not bad, just beacuse the game does not show tire deformation visually.

But we dont know anything about the inner works of PDs physics engine for GT5, maybe they included new tirephysics, that represent tire deformation, noone knows, because PD wont tell us. They never did.

I guess tyre deformation is in (I mean even visible) If you take the red car on the demo, use the chase cam and do some donuts and what not, you see it's there :D Tyre side walls flex nicely 👍 These advanced tire physics can easily be felt too while driving. It's absolutely Superb! I love it :)

I just tried it myself and I couldn't see any tyre flex, I looked at the replay afterwards and I still saw nothing.

Joking?

If I can't see it with my big TV then.....

I see it.. not joking. Will do more tests next week when back on my ps3. I'm pretty sure I didn't imagine it.

After wishful thinking here comes seeing things.
LFS has soundmods times better than the vacuum sound in GT5, has skidmarks and the best physics engine. If it wasn't the graphic representation I could call it better than GT5. But hey, all gt fanboys reckon they don't care about graphics and skidmarks. Then it's all about the detailed models and variety of cars.

LFS is a PC game and is for hardcore sim fans so its not really fair to compare it to GT which is a console game made for everyone.

Yeah, I was wondering why a studio with that much money doesn't hire these three(Yes it's just 3 people) geniuses that make LFS....that physics engine is better than anything out there, and even the cockpit view in LFS is done most realistically that I ever felt(I'm not talking about graphics, but the feeling of being behind the wheel,g-forces,head movement, fov, etc just awesome!)...PD could learn from these guys...

Doesn't seem like it, and I'm not sure GT5 would have tyre deformation either. such a minute detail doesn't effect gameplay.

The way it works imo, LFS is the closest to feeling like a real car at the limit.

GT5's much too hard to feel the limit,(I find I must learn it through repetition and never actually feel it)it's why I think it is possible it doesn't have any type of tire deformation.

Forza 3 is too easy at the limit but plenty of feel to it,(tire deformation) but what is good about Forza is that you can tune the cars to be less stiff which makes it much more difficult and realistic.

I am worried that there is no amount of tuning which can add the feel that's lacking for GT5. Just like to add that I play all these games with a wheel.

I am a firm believer in 'graphic don't represent gameplay' but if I was a Forza fan, and when FM3 hit and it looks exactly the same, I would be a little let down. If GT5 looked like GT4 I would probably be very disappointed

I can't say how realistic LfS actually is, because it features no real cars and no road cars (I played the demo content pack), so the physics could actually be wrong, but i will never know since i never drove a race car.
Same with most other PC sims. People claim they are ultra realistic, but I cant judge the physics in a way others with race car experience seem to be able to.

Oh well, I guess most of them never drove a race car aswell, they just assume it should feel that way. All i can say is that GT4 came pretty close to how it feels driving the roadcars, judging on the Audi S4 98, since I drove it in real life and even on a free parking area drifting and just playing around.

The Audi S4 has power steering in real life, so the Force Feedback on GT5 Prologue felt pretty close to that experience. But in a video game the Force Feedback has to translate more information to the driver about the cars behavior to make up for the missing G-forces. I thought that Ferrari Challenge did a really awesome job on the Force Feedback, though I never really felt it was realitic. It just translated the movement and the weightdistribution on the tires pretty good and I was able to control the car in nearly every situation. But again, I never drove a real Ferrari, so it could be far from being realitic.

There is no Audi S4 in GT5 Prologue and not in the Demo, so I will have to wait to judge on how realitic the physics are, but GT5 TT Demo feels pretty damn good.
I like how the cars behave in the Demo and I certainly get an authentic impression of how the 370z actually might feel.

Back to topic: Tiredeformation
I never saw it on any of the videos and not on the demo and the Prologue. The thing I sometimes recognized was some sort of clipping, when the tires seem to be inside the tarmac. This is also apparent while plowing through the gravel/sand.

Please excuse my English, but i hope you understand what I was trying to say.

I apologise for making a new thread for this, if it is able to be placed in an already created thread... but I couldn't find one to serve the purpose.

I just want to ask if anybody has noticed the possible tyre defomation of the Subaru, when it crashes, in the new GT5 trailer of the GoW III disc?
Is this actually tyre deformation or a small glitch in the graphics?

The link for the image is the following:

That looks more like the tire is sinking into the ground... Dont think its tire deformation IMO...

This was already in Prologue. If you drove on soft surfaces like the grass or the sand the tires would dig into the surface.

 It could be a glitch (the tyre 'sinks' a bit into the road). I can't even see any evidence of deformation such as flying pieces of tyres.
