While racing online we sometimes find ourseleves blocking either intentional or unintentional. Now some of us block because its probably a bad place to pass or because we're being a jack-nevermind. Sometimes its obvious you're blocking, other times it may just be that your holding your line through a tricky section and just trying to keep your car between the rumble strips. So whats your position on blocking? Do you mind it, or if someone is intentionally blocking you will you get enraged and make a dirty pass? For me, if i know im faster ill pass you in time. I may block if its the last corner of the last lap, flame me if you want.

I block normally on the final lap and I expect to be bumped to get me loose, depending on how much I want a win I will like bump someone that is blocking me, I will try to pass them cleanly first.

Blocking is a part of racing, though some rules do apply. The lead car has priority and can take which ever line he wishes, though it is asked that he holds that line. It is up to the pursuing car to work around. On a straight away, generally when a car is going for a pass, one blocking maneuver is allowed.

In regards to the above post. Bumping is not something that should be expected or partaken in. Accidents happen, I know, but your goal as a driver should be to run as cleanly as you can at all times.

I generally follow the rules that they use in F1. The lead driver can take any line they choose through a corner but they can only make one blocking manouver at a time. So you can take a defensive line in a corner but you can't weave around to stop someone getting past.

If its going down to the wire, I am going to block the car behind me whatever way I can. That said, when Im being blocked, I'll do my best to pass cleanly, but occasionally I get aggressive and shoot for an opening that probably didnt belong to me.

you have to decide whether (when your behind) to make a bold move or not will be the best decision. Sometimes it can cause crashes and you going off. But if executed well it can be effective. As for being ahead i would say block when it seems fair.Theirs no point in blocking on a straight when the person behind you is evidently faster.

Personally, I never intentionally block for a couple reasons.
-I know how annoying it is to be stuck behind someone that is blocking
-I generally race with PSN friends and I would rather lose one race then lose their lobby
-Its just a game & a source of fun. For me there is more fun in a >.100 2nd vs 3rd battle then winning by <1.000 due to dirtiness
-I will not sink to that level

When I get stuck behind a blocker, I simply try to stick as close as possible yet basically give up on attempting an overtake. They're usually spending so much time watching the rearview that they don't notice the approaching wall 👍
Alternately I wait for a straight, most races who claim to be clean will only block once on a straight because it's blatantly obvious that they're doing it and many players watch back replays and (PSN) block dirty racers.

When you get a really dirty one that will even try hitting you... That's when you must outsmart them

Just asking what if they slow down before early say one of chicanes of the straightaway on Circuit de la Sarthe 2009 and you dive to the inside to avoid them and they turn for the corner and hit you and go off track. I have seen this happen to others and myself.

I'm assuming you are talking about Nascar. Look we all know that there are groups of players who pack up and hold the bottom line at Daytona. They are slower and force everyone up to the high line were most people cannot drive. They have 2 blockers so their buddie or themselves have a better chance of winning.I don't have time for the childish antics so I move them out of the way.Pretty simple to do and they get the hint real quick, plus using a wheel helps also. This is one of the reasons why I don't race Nascar very much anymore. As for other forms of racing, open wheel don't be stupid,Touring cars if there is a clean opening I'm taking it and the little bump won't kill you.

I was talking about lmp races and sometimes people slow down early and then they get mad at you for taking them out when you are just trying to dodge them.

No im not talking about Nascar, im talkig in general. I do agree with getting right up behind the blocker and waiting til they either make a mistake or i have a clear line to pass. I rarely bump to pass if it can be helped, otherwise collisions just happen in racing. Like i said i'll block if its the last turn on the last lap in order to defend my position. That move got me flamed in a race once a few weeks ago and i honestly didnt see an issue i let him by when he had chances to overtake me. I was faster through the corners while he was faster on the straights. So i blocked on the straight hehe.

LMP and Touring cars have break lights. No need to run into the back of someone.Take the high or low line and out break them.Things happen way to fast in those cars and FGT cars.

ok

I usually block once but if its a corner like Wippermann on Nurburgring i will hold my line but if someone intently blocks me il pressure them into a mistake or pass them when there not expecting it :)

Same here. This seems a fair rule to me.

That is the rule of nascar.
Block me once shame on me, block me twice shame on you, after that they will normally get taken out.

Blocking is part of racing. It's up to the guy behind you to pass.

In F1, the rule is that you're allowed one blocking manueve, and that's it. Problably because of Senna.

My philosophy on those that try to pass is this: Make your car wider than it is.

If you know the racing lines of a corner, and can predict a challenge in the corners, take everything wide and fast, then quickly adjust your exit slip angle to cover as much passing room as possible. Make your opponent decide how much they're willing to gamble, and if passing you is going to be worth it (i.e. if they go for the inside, give them enough room to make the pass while on the grass, or eat the wall if the opposite is true).

With a clean race, you can use this technique to trick your opponent into braking too early or too late, giving you more of an advantage when you exit the corner.

In a dirty race, you'll probably get punted, or PITed.

I have watched and loved NASCAR for 20 years, and the fastest way around any track is the inside. Would you want to drive the outside of every corner of the 'Ring? Nope. If you want to use the chrome horn on a 3+ lane track, then your antic is as pathetic as the perceived slower drafting cars. You also have another choice; leave the lobby.
BTW: I love and prefer road racing, any type, any level (GT, Touring, LMP, production class, F1, etc.)

If you block me on the last lap and I bump you then don't complain.

I had one player get annoyed about that on Cote d'azur and I never spun him or shoved him into a wall.

I accept what happens if I block, so should we all

Sometimes I get pit maneuvered for "blocking" but in reality I'm just using the out-in-out technique. I still move aside on straights but seriously, how hard is it to just use the outside line instead of getting frustrated and taking me out. After all, I'll still move for you on a straight. The annoying part is this happens in clean racing lobbies. 👎

First off, if you're in a dirty lobby that's on you. No ground to stand on being mad (you in general, not you specifically).

If it's clean, there's no excuse for being dirty. I race in leagues mostly so they tend to be more professional and if someone does do something harmful or dirty they're going to get an earful and probably penalized.

The rule I go by is this, and I think it works:
Don't try to block OR pass when you know damn well it isn't a fair move.
The person leading has the right to take whatever line they want through the corner. If you're coming up on the inside but your bonnet hasn't passed the leader's, too bad. Hit your brakes and let him have it or you're a jerk who can't handle being second. If you're being passed on the inside and the passing driver already has the lead by the time you begin entering the corner, give them room and take the outside line. Or whatever the case may be.

Bottom line both drivers should be gentlemen. That said, blocking isn't taking the best line through a corner when the other driver is behind, even if you're halfway up on them. You need to HAVE THE LEAD at the time you enter that part of the driving line or you need to give it up.

My 2 pennies.

Blocking and driving defensively aren't the same. The former I consider dirty, the latter being perfectly acceptable. I consider blocking to be driving using the mirrors, whereas driving defensively is simply using a modified racing line to make it more difficult for someone to overtake.

Whats wrong with blocking? It's like saying that somebody is a dirty driver by outbreaking instead of slipstream...

This. Blocking and taking a defensive line are two different things. I wouldn't block, but I would take a line through a corner that makes it difficult for the guy behind me. Blocking on straights is also a no, particularly with the OTT slipstream this game has*. If someone is right up your chuff out of a corner, there's little you can do to stop them. Hold your line, let them pass and then tuck yourself right in behind them. Rinse and repeat.

Personally, I prefer to harry my opponents. I'm happy to tuck in behind the lead car and pressurise from there. Makes me chuckle listening to my mates flapping over the comms when their rear-view mirror is full of my bumper. Patience young Padawan, only the really good guys won't crack...

* - I know it's been toned down slightly with recent patches, but it's still absurdly strong.

Agree with everything being said about corners, but I feel that on a straght if you block more then once that's fine, in my view it makes a good race.
Just because your veryon is quick in a straght line doesn't mean I should move over when I've built a lead through the corners.

Well in real racing you're allowed to block/switch lane one time until next corner. And then repeat. Thats the same rules I apply in my races.
If someone is a lot faster hes allowed to pass through the lane that in the end is available. So that gives the guy in front the option only to block one time if he starts at the less proper lane. Forcing the guy to take the inside in the upcoming corner or whatever it would be. A good racer would never let this guy outsmart him with getting away with this, unless you get blocked in a smarter way in return before the corner ends.

This my friends is RACING and why I love it. If you rather want to zic-zac all the way through the straits then you shouldn't come to my server-rooms ;)

+1 from me 👍
This is what I do. Drive hard but drive fair. Respect the other Cars and drivinglines.
If you are side by side through a corner give each other space and you´ll get the best Manouvers (worth saving and making a compilation ;)).
Sometimes little bumps occur (part of racing) but not diagonal bumps which send you spinning.

Sometimes I like a dirty lobby where you can divebomb, push and block. But if the lobby is a clean one this is not accepted.

I generally follow the rules that they use in F1. The lead driver can take any line they choose through a corner but they can only make one blocking manoeuvre at a time. So you can take a defensive line in a corner but you can't weave around to stop someone getting past.

Yes it does. Blocking by weaving across the track on a straight is bad sportsmanship and would have you banned from 99% of racing series worldwide.

If you haven't got far enough ahead in the corners then that's your problem, if he is moving faster than you on the straight the fair thing to do is block once.
