I say it's perfectly fine to block, if your not a good enough driver to get round someone that's blocking then instead of crying about it improve your game so when someone is blocking you are able to get round them without any problems. THERE ARE NO RULES TO SAY BLOCKING IS NOT ALLOWED...

'99 wouldnt happen to be your year of birth, would it?

"Blocking" Is wrong and prevents a fair clean race. If you believe it should be done, go back to NFS and play with a heap of the other dirty racers there.

Going off your "if they aint good enough to pass whilst your blocking" logic, If your to slow to stay away from someone, why "Block" them?

The rules are up to the host of the room.

Sure all the rules are up to the host of the room but how many hosts list out their rules and regulations in online rooms? Other than in race series, none.

I suggest everyone read the GTPlanet Racing guidelines. Pretty simple. You can block once on a straight, not twice or more. You have to be safe doing it. Pretty easy.

That number is far off. I've done it, and so have others when I've joined there rooms. And even if it was only one person, it would still stand.

Well man congrats then, because I've been in hundreds of rooms and never ever once saw anyone mention anything about blocking, other than in organized race leagues where the rules were specified in the league outline. The practice of mentioning that sort of thing is incredibly rare, no longer zero, but up to one in thousands.

Which goes back to my first post. The rules are up to the host. They need not be stated explicitly.

I dont personally block, and I dont mind if someone is blocking if the two cars are equal, both gunning for advance position on the track, however if one car is CLEARLY quicker than the other and the slower car does not yield to his quicker opponent, then it gets annoying.. my tuned C63 encountered a slower Impreza Rally cat in a drift room. well while the C63 was trying to get traction, they were about equal, then the Merc hooked up, and started absolutely flying in on the Impreza, who wouldnt move, hed clearly seen me trying to get around him earlier.. another tuned Impreza was alongside the inside of the rally car so the C63 had nowhere to go.. I hit the brakes and got the C63 to slide in Tsukubas last corner but it was too late.. the Impreza was going too slow and the Mercedes smacked it from behind, and because of the weight difference, punted said Impreza into the gravel trap.

What rooms are you in? I have never been in a room where a host says you can block or not.

The host doesn't need to say anything. If someone blocks like mad and the host doesn't care, then blocking is free reign for all involved.

Likewise, it's common to see people cut Monza by driving on the green. If the host is OK with this, then arguing that some rules on some forum forbids it probably won't end up being very productive.

My point here is that there is no absolute rule with which to judge blocking, or other activities. Even me with my great disdain for blocking has to accept it if I choose to stay in a room where blocking is not managed by the host. Same goes for ramming, corner cutting, whatever.

I don't mind blocking but at a certain I will force you into making a mistake, I mean if I break late on a turnyou shouldn't hope right in front of me just because I'm going to pass you

If it's not stated explicity how the heck are you supposed to know? 99.9% of random online rooms are simply ruled by the limitations available in setting up the room regarding penalties, damage, aids etc. I can't think of a single random room I've been in in 9 months where the host said anything about driving on the green, blocking etc. I hear people complain about it and if a driver gets enough complaints once in a while he's booted but even that is pretty rare.

Blocking is fine as long as it follows F1 rules. ie 1 move only.

I dont really mind blocking at all. I'm way too focused on racing to try to block someone behind me

What pisses me off more than blocking is dirty racing... getting spun out in the first turn of a race. Even 'clean' servers have dirty as hell drivers

PD needs to do something about this, id say 75% of public lobbies are unraceable for this reason

By observation. Like I said, if people are cutting Monza and the host does nothing, then cutting is legal in that room.

Using the GTP rules as a guideline is fine, but those are not the official rules of GT5 online.

Anyone watch the Formula One race from Monza? You are allowed to block once and cannot make two different blocking moves.Schu did it to Hamilton and was warned by the team owner not to do it again. Here is your answer.

This is my thoughts on it, Schumacher took 'blocking' or 'defensive' driving right up to the limit 👍 .

I actually really enjoyed watching this part of the race, and thought jeez he's cutting a fine line here but as far as I'm concerned it was legal... he was however warned by his team manager/engineer that he shouldn't do it anymore just in case FIA take a different view :grumpy: ....

SO

If your doing more than Michael did than your definitely driving dirty. :sly:

Blocking is very dangerous. 👎 I cant block in real life on my road track events and I dont block in games. If you block in our real life road track events, you will be black flagged right off the track. If you are too slow, get out of the way.

I haven't done any racing online with the PS3/GT5 group. I have only gone online to see what's there and have some fun. I play along with whatever seems to be happening.

In rFactor, GTR and way back with Grand Prix Legends I never blocked and I don't think anyone else did. We always drove our best with the understanding that some guys are going to be quicker in some areas. It was the guys that drove most consistently that were going to win most of the time.

I might be fastest at Monza or the Glen, but to win I never blocked to prevent someone from passing. I would drive the line and if someone was fast enough to pass off the line then more power to them.

But the groups I raced in all knew each other and would not consider damaging the relationship that we had.

We did have some fun races in rFactor with the UPS trucks :D where anything goes.

With as large a membership there is in GT5 I don't think an open lobby is going to have a bunch of perfect racers. It's not until you find the right group that you can race with on a regular basis that you can find the racing style you prefer.

So be respectful if you think the room you are in (host) is a good one. If not, finish your race and exit.

There are enough kids and people with poor attitudes that can ruin races, no need to add to the mix.

:)

From the perspective of a guy who actually races more than just a fake car on a TV, blocking if done correctly, and in a minimal fashion is a part of racing, and perfectly fair, but any more than what they allow for in F1 gets pretty dangerous, especially if you are in a noticeably slower car.
I was at a race in Sebring about two years ago trying to catch up to the lead cars in my class (Lotus 7 and another Spitfire), and a Lister Jaguar came blasting past me. He caught the lead two about two corners later, and coming into turn 10, the Lotus pulled a bit of a nasty blocking maneuver on the Lister for God only know why. Long story short, the driver of the Lister locked up the brakes, and slid backwards into the wall at a good pace. Consequently, he was air lifted to the hospital suffering from two broken vertebrae, and a broken femur.

If you're going to block, and you like to pretend this is real world racing be sensible about it. Otherwise, this is just a game, and if you have no plans to translate your "skills" to the real world have at it.

Block me once... ok. Block me twice... grrr. Block me three times and you'll get punted, just like in real life. Fortunatly the people I race with in real life follow the rules. If someone is obviously quicker, then you get out of the way. Not to mention, there usually is more than one race going on at a time. I've shared race time with Spec Miata, GTS 1-5, American Iron, Camaro/Mustang Challenge and Super Touring while racing 944SPEC. Check your mirrors, maintain situational awareness and yield when required.

PS... I'd love to get online with CamaroBoy and JLawrence and other real life racers. Perhaps we could get in a lobby one day. :)

Punt in real life? Sounds damn expensive, and I hope you drive a big car!

PS...Sent you a friend request Bottoz.

944's have the best "Bumper Pads" in racing! ;)

F1 rules ... only one blocking move allowed. I also think they should impose a penalty anytime you bump the car in front (well for anything other than NASCAR since that's apparently how they race). Too many people brake later than they should because they know the car in front will slow them down.

a la Schumacher? :sly:

If you are referencing Monza, I know some people think Schumacher was making two moves, but I disagree. He was making one move to block then moving back to the racing line. Hamilton also moved back to the racing line so he blocked himself there. Lewis is called the best passer in F1, make a move off line then. That was just Schumacher schooling Hamilton, straight up. 👍

Apparently it was questionable enough for Shumi to get not one but two calls from the pits cautioning him to 'leave room' . IRC the first call was an unprecedented call from the team owner.

strategy in driving in a big circle? nascar is a joke

Strategy plays a huge role in any kind of racing, and believe it or not it does take a huge amount of skill to race at ~200Mph for several hours straight on course with 42 other cars.
