Yes, turning wide on last turn make me hit the wall sometime. This remind me.

Is our run still legit if we hit the wall ? the rules do not mention it.

I need this because whenever I hit NOS before the turn end, the car usually hit the wall, but the speed is a bit higher (about 295mph on R8). Hitting the wall do not reduce the speed much.

100 page !!! 👍

why oh why i have feeling that there'll be competition about the honour of posting 2000th post..?

when it'll be reached, I'll  to this thread..

Yeah, in my quest to get a reall fast GT1 speed, I took out most of the front camber to +0.4 or so. so when I come around THE BOTTOM OF THE CORNER I dont really hear much wind, but anyways I have my DS2 left control-stick (the turning one) turned all the way to the left. the tires are sqweeling like a little piggy about to die. Even with R5's. I dont use N1's like other people. I still belive in the therory "more grip to put the power down, higher top speed"

congrats on 100 pages DE!!!👍

Yes, if you touch the wall your speed is still legitimate. There's no way it can help you when you're at these kinds of speed.

Cheers for the 100-page celebrations, guys... I'd love to take the 2000th post, but if IF I miss it I'll settle for #2006 :)

I don't think it will make big difference in cornering between +1.0 or +0.0, so I use +0 camber in my run.

Ok :).

Let's race for 2000th post .

BTW, i currently trying to convert all of my excell formula to my cellphone using sheet.jar. But it seems this application do not support fractional calculation (or maybe it can but I don't know how). And then I remember that all I need to carry is not all formula but only gear speed conversion unit. So I derive the calculation and have this:

new gear ratio * new final drive * new top speed = old gear ratio * old final drive * old top speed

This is acceptable by sheet.jar so now I don't need to open the excel file just to calculate new gear ratio :).
You can use this formula to calculate what you need to gain another speed.
As I don't remember my gear I use wheres the mini gear setting:
5th gear = 0.602
final = 3.100
top speed = 302mph

goal top speed = 315mph
using the same 5th gear ratio = 0.602

Code:
new final drive = old gear ratio * old final drive * old top speed / new gear ratio / new top speed
                = 0.602 * 3.100 * 302 / 0.602 / 315
                = 2.972
so the final drive need to be set at 2.972 to reach 315mph

Lycanthor gear setting
5th gear = 0.811
final = 3.100
top speed = 297mph

goal top speed = 302mph
using the same 5th gear ratio = 0.811

Code:
new final drive = old gear ratio * old final drive * old top speed / new gear ratio / new top speed
                = 0.811 * 3.100 * 297 / 0.811 / 302
                = 3.048
so the final drive need to be set at 3.048 to reach 302mph

you can also download the excel file that contain this formula and sheet.jar on my website

I've been messing around a bit and came across the BMW M5, which intrigued me immediatly.
First, it comes stock with 499 hp, not bad, and can be tuned to 761
Second (biggest reason) it has 7 gears! Maybe it could help.....

My first test was a 264, but I will keep messing around with it.

If anyone else wants to try, go ahead....

My only problem is I have never set up a road car for this :p, only the minolta and GT-ONE, so it will be interesting

It's an interesting idea CoolGeekz, although it's been said a huge number of times that the number of gears is pretty irrelevant. The examples I tend to quote are the Chaparral 2D, which does 310mph without N2O and with three gears :p

I wonder if it's as fast as my fledgling road-car project... :sly:

OK, blue_sharky39, this isn't ideal but as you don't have a digicam it'll do. But if it's a new, Calsonic-liveried R92CP I can't do it, mine's a BlackBeauty.

sucahyo... That formula is... Pretty amazing! Congratulations on figuring it out, it actually works! 👍 Great job.

Welcome to the Club, HJLamont - that's a decent starting speed :)

Just in case you missed the rules in Post #1, I hope the car's front wheels were on the ground throughout the run?

You're dead right when you say it's all in the chassis. After the gears are set wide enough and the downforce is figured out, it goes down to fine-tuning your suspension. Hope to see some more efforts from you soon 👍

I'll put you on the leaderboard once you clarify your front wheels were on the ground for me ;)

(Damn, now unless I double-post I can't get my year-of-birth post  )

DE

Damn you Ghost, you've taken my year of birth post number! Just kidding  👍

But now I have my year of birth reply number :D

I suppose this post had better have something useful in it, so I'll say for Crimson's benefit that I haven't managed to speed my R8 up at all. In fact, I can't match my old speed, but I didn't do an oil change  that might explain a bit!

Getting closer to that 2000th post!
2 more left!

nice speeds HJLamont, the R8 is easly capable of 350+ speeds-just look in my sig for the leader board to see who you can beat and maybe find new cars to try out. Have fun!👍

I just got bored and decided to try to hit 500km/h (I'm in CANADA) in the speed 12, after hitting 470km/h I decided to come have a look on here.. and I see that has been far exceded. Maybe I'll attempt to break some of these records then. I used to compete in the Weekly Drag series along long time ago, I haven't been on this site forever, maybe I'll go see if someone started that back up.

Oh yeh, and ok here I posted the 1999th post so some one can post the 2000th now...prolly some kid, sitting here refreshing the page waiting patintly. :P

Yes it is :)
Audi R8 350.09mph.

Is this video valid enough? (8MB avi)

I am surprise that using automatic transmission (yeah I am lazy :p) can make this car this fast, only 5 mph away from unverified top speed :odd:. and the 1st gear can reach 100mph too . Do this means using manual transmission is not important in 300mph attempt?

2000th post !!!, happy 2000th post to everyone , long live this thread :).

BCDSM
Oh yeh, and ok here I posted the 1999th post so some one can post the 2000th now...
I never guess that I get this post :dopey:, I thought I am the one that post 1999th post, it's a good number too :).

Thanks for mentioning that, Ghost, and there's the fact that if he hadn't double-posted I would've got #2000  but I double-post occasionally to bump a new speed, so no worries.

Sorry about that HJ, I'll fix it soon.

*threatens* Never insult the all-dominating R8 again... */threat* Just kidding :dopey: but seriously, how can you call it ugly? I've got a photo that shows it's not, I think Ghost knows the one :D

Welcome to the thread, BCDSM, and it's nice to see the Speed 12 being used as a first car once more. Not quite as original as it used to be :p, but still better than starting with Group C! Good luck with it. Oh, and for your information, I can only put speeds on the leaderboard if you post the pictures showing the speed in miles per hour. Cheers 👍

Aaaaand sucahyo takes Post Number Two Thousand! Congratulations :)
Well done the (stares at HJ) gorgeous (;)) R8, that's dangerously close to my speed  I'll hopefully be able to watch your video tonight 👍

My first gear does 80-ish mph, so I expect you've changed the final drive a lot? I don't change my final now, only the fifth and sixth ratios. I don't want to lose my build-up for the sake of top-end, that's just contradictory :)

Leaderboard Updated with HJ's speed.

I'm pleased to have got Reply Number Two Thousand at least, seeing as replying is what this thread is for I'm happy with that :)
I'd like to thank everyone who has taken part in the Club's attempts over the hundred pages, of course I couldn't have been successful myself without you all. Let's keep it going! 👍 👍

Not just final drive, all of them :). I use tranny trick and slider trick to make my gear closer. Although sticking 5th and 6th gear so close maybe wrong decision .
Anyone notice that if you do tranny trick the 1st and last gear distance is closer? my gear have faster 1st gear even with the same top speed (I use 356mph goal).

BTW, if my speed verified, we have more R8 than 88C-V in top 20 ;).

Sorry, been away for a while. What did I miss? Any new record-breaking speed yet?

I've not been able to play GT4 for about 4 days now, because of the demon that's in my signature.

And, in fact, we will have more R8s in the top 20 than any other car!
I'm downloading your video now :)

Hope it looks like a good run, I want more competition 👍

All that's happened really GT4_Rule, is Crimson taking the R8 record! I'm still trailing him ;)

Watching your video, Sucahyo...
Thaaat's brilliant. Exactly what I wanted, thanks a lot. The run is legitimate, congratulations on breaking 350mph!

We're seriously starting to get lots of people now man! Now I'm down all the way to 67th :banghead: I must try harder!!! Congrats Crimson_menace, you're the 5th fastest person in GT4!

*bangs head against desk*

i just cant get this R8 above 340, its making me testy. i know its in the gears now, but i just cant seem to find that sweet spot :banghead:

I don't think it's the gear's fault, because the sweet spot is at high rpm. If you set the gear to 355mph top speed goal R8 should be able to reach atleast 347mph (my previous speed) if all other setting support it. I improve to 350 by changing downforce setting and use correct top speed goal.

Thanks, man! And roughly 7th from the lowest 300+ speed as well.

Congrats on this monstrosity known as the 300mph thread, DE.👍

Two-freakin'-thousand posts. Wow.
