Tokyo Auto Salon: one of the biggest GT5 displays ever built

The whole video is CG, yes it uses some assets from the game but the whole thing is a CG video. There's no more reason to expect we'll get a wind tunnel in the game than there is to expect we'll get planes doing formation laps over Indiannapolis or for a grey haired man to lean out of a window in Bern.

It's the second time we see a wind tunnel/dyno in gt5 videos. Why would they insist?

we've NEVER seen a dyno before.

So. after seeing the Denso/PD GPS thing, is anyone else thinking that's one of the big MANUFACTURER announcements? After all, he never said auto manufacturers and for PD to hook up with someone as big as DENSO, it's probably a huge deal for them.

Yes the whole video is CG, but if we are going to be nitpicky the game I'm playing on my PS3 is CG too. As is any other game. The only thing about the demo is that the image quality (not textures, lighting, models but anti-aliasing, texture filtering, shadow quality and a few other things) is better than what we will see in the game. It's not flat out gameplay and you may want to call it CG for that reason even though it is using game assets and probably running in the game engine, just not in real-time in a PS3.

What I mean is that while the Forza 2 opening is clearly made from scratch in a program like 3DSMax or Maya, the GT trailer can certainly be obtained by supersampling the original game engine output. And I bet it is.

Yes we did. I can't remember which one it was but we certainly did. Hopefully someone can refresh my memory.

was it the same as this wind tunnel vid? Or was it on it's own without the wind tunnel?

I agree.
We have seen the windtunnel/dyno with an Audi R10 TDI on it in GT PSP:

So, like I said, there's still no more reason to expect that than any of the other quirks we've seen, like a man and his dog, a guy leaning out a window, planes in formation flight, a pit crew pushing a car out of a garage. There is no reason to expect we'll see any of these things in the game, there's a chance, yes, a chance we will, but the likelyhood is that they are purely window dressing for the rest of the video.

What do you mean with "wheres the dyno"?
Its the exact same 3D scene as in the new video.
Unfortunately its pretty dark there, but it is the same 3D render.

are we talking about the same video? Caue neither that one nore the new one show a dyno of any kind.

Why is it not a dyno? The car is standing on rolls and the wheels turn.
What else is it then if its not a dyno?

Maybe PD made a little mistake there, that in the video is definitely a dyno, i dont know what else it could be. Or do they let the wheels turn in real windtunnels?

it's definitely a dyno? Because you want it to be? As someone said before, spinning wheels affect the aerodynamics of a car. The wind tunnel itself is most likely spinning the wheels to simulate the car while driving.

So, like I said, if PD took the time to model, texture and animate them in a way they could be directly included in the game (and apparently they are already running in the game engine), why would PD remove them from the final game?

I don't think we will see a dog during races or that the wind tunnel will actually be usable to tune cars but I can really see such things in a menu background for example.

I thought the whole point of the collaboration was for them both to make two smaller sportscars at a lower development cost. Besides, who said Subaru's has to be rwd. I can't say I've been monitoring the situation though, but if Subaru have dropped plans for thier car based on this platform then it would seem to make the whole point of sharing that engine with Toyota moot.

The ft-86 from subaru will be a completely different car. It will be bigger, heavier, AWD, and more powerful. Seems like toyota just wanted the motor, Ionno.

Sorry for the double post

why would all wheels be turning for a RWD car? It's part of the wind tunnel.

Maybe PD made a little mistake there, that in the video is definitely a dyno, i dont know what else it could be. Or do they let the wheels turn in real windtunnels?

The wheels turning simulate the car actually running/driving at speeds. The tires and the air on/around the wheels and tires also affect aerodynamics. And also I have seen some dyno testing where a FWD car, the rear wheels are also being turned on the rollers.

I would like to think that PD would also use this wind tunnel modeling to double as a dyno, for tuning the performance of the engine and to monitor the changes more easily.

I'll post the picture of the FWD car on the dyno with the rear wheels also moving when I find it

Who said that was running in the game engine? None of these videos are created properly in game you know? They add all sorts, all they've had to do is create a room with an animated fan at the end, with animated rollers on the floor and animate the cars wheels moving. The effect of the wind travelling round the car is not likely to be done using the GT5 game eninge. If you know about this sort of thing you will know that the probability of that being a pre-rendered effect that's been added in seperate to the car and environment is much higher than any other possiblity.

This is possible, and I can see that happening, but if and it still an if we see the wind tunnel as an environment then we probably won't see it working like you can in the video and it probably won't serve a use other than that in the game.

What, the FT-86 is FWD?! That's it, I'm going to listen to various 🤬 musicals until I bleed to death from my ears.
(Goes to Wikipedia)
Oh, I've nothing to worry about. It's RWD. happycorey must be referring to some other car.

Maybe if you had read his post properly, you wouldn't get so worked up? ;)

I think many of us already assumed that, but there is yet to be any proof of actual dyno use.

Nobody. All I said is it looks like it is running in the game engine. I'm sure the trailer is pre-rendered. It's certainly not running in real-time in a PS3. That doesn't mean it's not using the game engine however. They are probably running the game engine in a PC to make those trailers.

I downloaded an HD version of it to be able to see the details better and the smoke is the main element that gives it away as gameplay. It's really low quality. I'm sure that if the smoke was actually an effect made on programs like Adobe After Effects it would look a lot better.

I stand corrected. 👍
But you could have just posted that for yourself before.

Yeah that is true Dave. But there is a lot we have yet to see and they like to surprise us with things.

Driftking listen to Ardius. I was talking that I have seen a FWD on a dyno, where the rear wheels are also moving.

As pictured here.
