Tomb Raider 2012

Stop me if this is a silly question, but I'm looking at getting the Limited Edition of the game, which comes with an exclusive DLC tomb. My question is this: would the DLC be included on the disc, or would it take the form of some kind of online pass where you input a code?

The reason why I'm asking is because I would have to get a console at the same time, and I don't know if I would be able to get a dedicated internet connection set up with it. My home network is on wireless - though out TiVo has an ethernet connection - and I don't know too much about the connectivity of the consoles. I don't want to buy the Limited Edition, only to find that I cannot access the DLC.

^ Pretty sure new 360s include built in wifi (old ones didn't), PS3s definitely have built in wifi. Both also have Ethernet ports for wired connections. Tom Braider 2012 is also coming to PC, I assume that's where you do your gaming now if you don't have a console, so that's another option but I guess you already knew and considered that.

I imagine the DLC will come as a code included in the box but it won't be on the disc. Well, it might be on the disc but if it is it won't be accessible until you enter the code in the PSN or Xbox store and download a tiny key file. Either that or you have to download all of the content.

I don't actually do much gaming at all these days. Even if I wanted to, my laptop is rather old, and wouldn't be able to handle current releases of games; it's prone to overheating.

PS3 is also getting a custom controller.

I thought this controller comes with Limited Edition. But doesn't. Looks like it's cheap and was poorly made. Somehow X360 looks much better.

I'm looking to order Limited Edition myself for Lara Figure and Cool Map. Weapons probably will be available through unlocking them while making some achievements.

I thought the Limited Edition was just the game with the DLC. The box set with the figurine and the map and everything was called the "Survival Edition" or some such.

But maybe that's just down here. After all, the Australian and UK markets got a different collector's edition - with that disgusting zombie torso - for DEAD ISLAND: RIPTIDE.

Wireless is workable but never really recommended for gaming, leastways not online - for that you need a hard connection.

If you are playing SP though I never had any problems with wireless. Hardwired also helps far more with download speeds.

No one will get the Dead Island: Riptide torso statue now.

I don't really intend to be playing online. I don't like the environment - I find it's full of people who take themselves and the game far too seriously and value their skills in the game far too greatly. I'd probably just use the connection to get DLC. Assuming I get it; I'm undecided at the moment.

I should certainly hope not. What on earth were they thinking when they came up with it?

I play with both, a wired connection at Uni and a wireless at home, and strangely I have more problems with a wired connection, more lag and disconnection issues because the speeds are slower. Depends on how good your internet is really.

90% of the time you come across these people but if your lucky enough you do find decent people to play with. But it's always worth trying to persuade a couple of mates to get it and play online with them.

Anyway I'm torn between getting this and God of War, I will probably wait a few weeks and see what the reviews are like.

I know what you mean, though I tend to find the opposite - online seems to be populated with so many who don't take it seriously at all :) Anyway, I prefer co-op online when I do venture out there, tends to be better.

Sounds like the Uni brodband has a lot more strain on it and the routers. Like you say though, depends on your ISP and set-up too.

Guide To Survival Ep. 2

And i just ordered this game! 👍 Finally got the time to watch any game-play, i am a fan of any tomb raider so i would bought it anyway but this last game-play is first time I've watched any material from this game and it convinced me

Even though they have dropped it still looks promising, does anyone know if there is a demo coming out?

Bummer about no demo but thats great news about not having an online pass or season pass. I am very interrested in this game. I plan to at least rent it for sure.

I think dropped in this context means that they are in - unless I'm missing another list of reviews.

Personally I don't listen to the game reviewers (which only occasionally backfires :sly:) the big reviewers seem too prone to 'favouritism'.

Nice screenies 👍

Not looking like game of the decade or even game of the year then, but some very solid scores. Think I'll at least check IGN's video review, just hope it isn't one of the reviewers whose voice inexplciably seems to fade out at the end of every sentence.

Any "Game of the Year" award is pretty much a given as soon as a developer announces a new title in a major IP unless that developer seriously drops the ball. This year, it will probably be Bioshock Infinite, so Tomb Raider was never really in with a chance.

AMD's 'TressFX Hair' Unveiled

AMD
TressFX Hair revolutionizes Lara Croft’s locks by using the DirectCompute programming language to unlock the massively-parallel processing capabilities of the Graphics Core Next architecture, enabling image quality previously restricted to pre-rendered images. Building on AMD’s previous work on Order Independent Transparency, this method makes use of Per-Pixel Linked-List data structures to manage rendering complexity and memory usage.

DirectCompute is additionally utilized to perform the real-time physics simulations for TressFX Hair. This physics system treats each strand of hair as a chain with dozens of links, permitting for forces like gravity, wind and movement of the head to move and curl Lara’s hair in a realistic fashion. Further, collision detection is performed to ensure that strands do not pass through one another, or other solid surfaces such as Lara’s head, clothing and body. Finally, hair styles are simulated by gradually pulling the strands back towards their original shape after they have moved in response to an external force.

Graphics cards featuring the Graphics Core Next architecture, like select AMD Radeon HD 7000 Series, are particularly well-equipped to handle these types of tasks, with their combination of fast on-chip shared memory and massive processing throughput on the order of trillions of operations per second.

Seriously hold on that thought! Because this year suppose to be manic for gamers. Bioshock is not the main threat for Tomb Raider. As much as i wanted to see this game to be the best in 2013. The list of games that Lara Croft has to challenge had to include at last those :

  • Last of US
  • Bioshock Infinite
  • Gran Theft Auto 5

Never mind Tomb Raider 2013 is the game i want :)
