Ok, for starters, I am a huge fan of both series' Gran Turismo and Top Gear. A match made in heaven, for sure! But the track is Really touchy in the tests and special races: graze a cone? Disqualified! Get cut off and bump anoter car? Disqualified! (that's really in any track, but especially true in the bottle necks of Chicago and The Hammerhead!) And, when was the last time you recall seeing planes scattered all over the place while they're filming? On practice, please tell me I'm not wrong here, but should you really have a "rolling start" ... I mean seriously, none of the track times on te show are timed with a rolling start! 1 lap attempts with a 3 count start please!!!

Now to the replays: FAIL.
they almost Never use the show angles ... I mean seriously? No camera mounted on the tires after the follow through that shakes when you pass it fast and close enough? Did the designers EVER see the show?!?

Tests are not easy. I got both in samba bus and elise challenge after about 5 tries. Im too dissapointed that they do not use camera angles found in the show in replays. Also rolling start thing is a major fail.

need to do away with all the cones, and need to give us the whole airfield to play with. Just isnt the same...

I spent a solid 10 minutes in samba bus and got it.
But the elise oh my god 30 minutes 2nd place is my best I was so pissed off. Nascar is easier but worse due to Jeffs freaking repetitive comments I had to put that crap on mute. When I did put it on mute I ended up getting gold easy.

On one hand, I agree that these challenges have been absolutely ridiculous. The first time I was disqualified all I could think about was all of the shenanigans that go on in real Top Gear challenges, and I get disqualified for rubbing up against another car? How hypocritical is that?

On the other hand, these types of challenges (well, the samba bus challenge at least) could only have been designed by someone as sadistic as Jeremy Clarkson himself. I don't know if this is true, but it would be hilarious if it were.

I agree so much could have been done with this tie in and.... No...

The most heinous I think by far is the rolling starts. I mean that kills it so much. A 1 mph rolling start is not a standing start.

Then the lack of reasonably priced cars... And of course all other stuff such as camera angles.

This is the kind of stuff that CAN be patched in so I hope pd do and make the most of this tie in...

.

I agree. This is a van challenge in true Top Gear style:

Ha, Raitziger, that was exactly the segment I was thinking of. The challenges should have been made more like that, with some goofy twist to it with some light hearted cheating allowed.

Are you talking about the 747 jumbo jet in the airfield? That plane actually exists in real life and in some Top Gear segments, you can see it in the background.

I wasn't really impressed with it either. I've been trying to do hot laps just like on the show. I stop right in front of the start line then take off, but I'm usually doing about 5km/h before the clock starts, so I get a little time there. Not that that matters anyway, I bet The Stig's time in the DB9 by 7 seconds. WTF?

I have to say, I've only attempted the beginner challenge in the bus and it sucks. Not sure if the medium level is any better because the game just froze when I tried to exit. I'm trying really hard to like this game right now but it just seems they have spent so much time on gimmicky things that aren't even fun. The Top Gear challenge should be standing start one lap challenges in descent cars, nothing else

Okay, I may be over-reacting on that, but I swear there are more than just the one plane...

I'm more pissed that the Samba Bus and that WW2 Jeep thing took up two very valuable premium car slots.

But yeah, I agree, PD haven't got a clue.

Agreed, I am never going to drive that piece of cr%p again. Makes you wonder if anyone from PD has actually seen a Top Gear episode

Kaz, as far as i can recall, actually said from one of his interviews that the PD crew watched every single episode of Top Gear to get the feel of its culture. Which made me very surprised and disappointed that camera angles are not there... i wish it can be user edited in some way... PATCH!!!

Also, i wish PD had opened up the entire airstrip to play around with. Just like the real thing. Lastly, its obvious that the cones are there to help people who aren't familiar with the track, or top gear itself for that matter, navigate, but please! Let me have the option to turn them off! *sigh*

I suppose we'll see if they're allowed to use the camera angles in-game when the official BBC game comes out or it gets added in the Forza franchise. Can't see why they wouldn't have used them if it wasn't a licensing issue. It would seem to be the main thing to get right!

You will have to escuse me if this has already been asked.....:ouch:

Ive gotten Bronze on the TG task with the campa van, and just starting the Lotus one.

Am i right in saying that once the three TG challenges are done (3rd place or higher) the TG track is opened up else where like in Arcade?

Haha, I barely believe that.

IIRC, you unlock the test track for Arcade mode if you get gold on the beginner level.

Haha, I barely believe that.

Believe the 'statement'? ...or believe that said interview/article actually 'happened'?

Well if its the latter, the interview/article should be in the news section. But its well buried by now. Amar, Jordan, or any of the supermods should be able to confirm this...

Maybe there are licensing issues with the BBC. YOu know how touchy they can get with the Stig. Would they really allow you to beat the Stig's time by giving you a standing start?

If that's not the reason, then I don't know why the essentials like standing starts and the angles aren't there tbh.

I found the challenges alright. Bus was annoying to redo, but I never found that if I just nudged someone it would disqualify me. Took me two tries to finish it for a bronze, then restarted till I went well enough and got gold on about my 5th or 6th.

Lotus one is hella fun! Got bronze on my first then kept getting in 2nd and running off or something else... gave up on that one for now after several attempts. It's kind of like the 512B Rome test at the end of your IC license, I got similar results with that, went well enough at the start then keep getting in front only to lose out for whatever reason, although in that it's a bit harder seeing some cars have more power. I had to put that on hold as well...

I found the tests to be fine, nice and challenging. The track though... yeah rolling start is stupid and camera angles rarely reflect the show. Bit of a let down.

They do use some of the camera angles they have the one in the tyres at Chicago/Bentley they just use different angles in different replays so they're not all the same.

It took me 1 hour to get gold.
In the end I was laughing so hard, I believe Clarkson himself must have designed this crazy event, and I think it was a great challenge.
He must have said "Hey Kaz, you know what you have to do? Make a 2 lap race on our track with... a hippy bus! It will be hilarious!"
I understand the frustration many of you have experienced, but for me it was really fun, and when I managed to win I was very satisfied.
I bet I'll never do it again though :)

They couldn't make the replays look exactly like they are in the show, because in the show, I don't think they ever actually play the whole lap. I think its just edited to show each of the corners. If you were to time the part they play I doubt it would be the same as the time they reveal the car to have taken to do the lap. I agree though they should show the corners from the angles featured in the show.

There's a simple solution if you want a standing start ,stop before the line.

The races have rolling starts because there is no grid it's just a line kind of like on the ovals
