I seriously thought that MG was a Citroen then!

Vile thing. Where are the saloons? The ZS?

Where are the saloons? The ZS?

They're back in the early '00's where everybody left them!

I though they were using the MG6

I don't like hatches in touring cars!

I have one. Makes you feel horribly inferior but let me tell you this; I couldn't afford to buy any other car.:)

I had thought they would use the other new MG. The MG 7.

I might be wrong but I believe this, the MG6, is the one that will be used. Not the MG3 that is pictured in that article.

Just looking at it the MG 3 made me throw up it doesn't look large enough for NGTC regulations, the MG 6 is most likely. An announcement should be coming in the next few weeks with Triple 8, its already been postponed IIRC...

Been confirmed on Touring Car Times that 888 will return to works backing with MG running a pair of MG6's and Plato will be the No #1 driver. The only surprise is that Andy Neate will be the other.

That and the fact we can cast serious doubts on RML's 2012 effort. I don't think RML will be around now they have lost their top man; Jason Plato (Though from the pic of the car in racing livery not Silverline who won't be backing JP) and will probably find it hard to see Alex McDowall find the funding.

Should be interesting to see if 888 can build and develop a car which can beat Team Dynamics still or not. The first few races this year are going to be all about who has sorted out their car, best, quickest. I hope and slightly expect that Wrathall, Austin and Welch will have the advantage in this area to make it a little more interesting than simply watching the big teams walk it.

I hope WSR have found something. Sounds like Motorbase may be running some kind of Focus still.

I agree that RML is unlikely to be still around, their BTCC effort is only considered an off-shoot of their WTCC car which is why they stuck to using the S2000 engine.

The livery posted over at Autosport looks bloody hideous:

And I've spent the past two hours looking at the new Caterham CT-01 ...

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't using so many colours. Replace either the red or the blue with black and the yellow and green with white or something and it would look a lot better.

I like the way the white is used along the bottom and front, its just a shame its ruined by the rest of the multi-coloured mess.

I imagine it should a bit better in reality.

You'd blood hope so!

Replace the red at the back with more black, or white, and it would start to look more cohesive IMO. Although, to be honest, black, white, blue, red, green and yellow is always going to look a mess together.

I think the main issue is the poor quality of the editing, they've just put blocks of colours over the car, not even the doors are on there! On the actual grid it won't be so bright and might look better.

Motorbase will be running the same 'old' Fords they ran this year. Ford wanted them to become the manufacture after the departure of Aon but they declined, suggesting they have a plan already in place for 2013...

I'm delighted MG are back, can honestly say it wouldn't be the same without him. I hope them coming in will also encourage others back, Vauxhall are interested but unwilling to commit (according to Thorney), Hollamby want's Volkswagen on board of his effort and Skoda could possibly back a team but that looks unlikely for this season at least.

Genuinely excited for this season!

Last thing i'll say is I wouldn't rule out RML yet, even if its just a S2000/NGTC entry, I think they have something up their sleeve. It wouldn't surprise me to see Thompson fill a seat their if they do enter, after all his goal now is the WTCC.

I would love to see Thommo and Paul O'Neill at the team. Or if not Owy, then Turks.

Nash has been ousted from Triple Eight but looks set to announce something soon. He 'can't give anything away' according to his twitter. He drove for RML a few years back, maybe he is going there? I can't see Alex McDowell with RML but I hear he's off to join Frank Wrathall....

Alex will be paying for any RML BTCC programme next year, as for Nash I heard a rumour he was going to Motorbase to drive a Focus.

Thats if they run a programme at all of course! As I say I'm told hes off to join Dynojet anyway.

Nash at Motorbase wouldn't be bad!

I dearly hope Nash finds a ride somewhere, along with O'Neill, Thompson, Onslow-Cole, etc.

Not to mention we still know nothing about WSR - what about Collard? And Foster? Lea Wood?

I'm assuming Jackson will stay at Motorbase with whatever they are doing. Presumably Michael Caine will stick around if he can find the budget too.

Far as i'm aware O'Neil's main backer is pulling out so he is up in the air.

Thommo is a bit of a long shot and a bit ambitious for me as an RML fan but at the moment IF RML somehow get a sign of life from their already frankly flatlined BTCC programme then Tom Onslow Cole, O'Neil or James Nash would be a good shout by Ray Mallock for me.

If I had to choose I would go for Nash. I think that now he has proven himself in the Independent ranks I would like to see him take that next step and become a top works driver.

EDIT: Alan Gow said in a Tweet to me that RML has been linked to Hyundai to run the i40's. But a fellow BTCC fan said later in a tweet that he heard rumourd RML may not be running in the BTCC due to redundancies. Interesting.

Bad news but not a surprise
"Chevrolet and RML have today announced that they will not be involved in the 2012 BTCC, but will instead focus their resources on retaining their WTCC crowns where it is clear that other manufacturers will be upping their commitment for the coming season.

Chevrolet UK Managing Director, Mark Terry, commented: “I would like to wish RML the very best for 2012, and thank our many fans for their support over the last two years.”

RML Managing Director, George Lendrum summarised the decision: “We understand Chevrolet’s decision to concentrate its motorsport programme on the WTCC in 2012. Despite the fact that we won't be involved in 2012, RML remain long term supporters of the BTCC and hope to be back in the future.”"

I said the departure of Plato must have signified something that must have happened within RML that meant they were not able to do a 2012 BTCC programme. But I take no heart from that as an RML fan.

That surely means now Nash to Airwaves with Mat Jackson or STR. Alex McDowall? Dunno about him. Theirs a place at Welch Automotive and at RAR.

There was a talk of Welch running another Proton for this year's campaign. Is it really going to happen you guys reckon?
