The problem with an EV Corolla is that the Corolla has built its entire nameplate on being mechanically reliable.

An EV Corolla will necessarily have to be more electronically/technologically reliable than any of its competitors which * looks around at society * is a gigantic ask.

That's also a great point. Prius is arguably just as strong of a nameplate as Corolla, if not moreso, and has always been a technological showcase. A statement vehicle which now even makes a style statement.

I think it's clear that car companies are simply not going to be successful in America with EVs for at least another ten years so the time for a non-ICE or non-affordable-hybrid has not arrived.

Reflecting the Corolla’s diverse body style heritage, Toyota plans to offer a wide range of powertrains: from a fully electric model to full-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.

A pure internal combustion version is also in the works, and Toyota isn’t ruling out an ICE Corolla powered by carbon-neutral fuel. While details remain limited, the world’s largest automaker has already confirmed development of a new family of 1.5- and 2.0-liter engines that will be smaller, lighter, and more efficient than the current ones. Given the Corolla’s importance, it would make sense for it to debut these next-gen powertrains.

Expect the next-generation Corolla to arrive by late next year or sometime in 2027.

Curious to see how much of the concept will bleed into the real car. Those sharp lines and maybe it's just the shots but the proportion makes it look the Corolla will now be the size of a mid size/full size sedan and no longer "compact". Not that it hasn't been happening with everything else on the market
