Well well well ,Toyota have released the Corolla concept and I think it looks stunning.

It does have a bit of FT-86 at the back but overall gorgeous car

Looks like they found an Avalon and pushed on both ends and squashed it into a compact car. The hood and trunk are too stubby and the cockpit appears too big. Looks quite tall as well, almost upright like a minivan from the front.

Well it is a concept after all. Who said it had to be acceptable? :p But it is a little ridiculous. I feel in the end we'll end up with a Hyundai Veloster.

It seems as though Toyota wants to direct a bit of style and performance back into the Corolla brand, so at the very least, it seems like a halfway decent indication of where they want to take the car. Crank the styling back down from 11 to a more probable 7 or 8, we're going to see a car that looks drastically similar to the current Camry.

A shame they're not talking about any of the new technology or mechanical bits inside the car. I'd be hoping for a small-displacement turbo, and possibly a diesel here in the US, but I know that's likely out of the question. Who's willing to bet it gets a carryover version of the 2.4L in the current car?

I hate Toyota's stylist/exterior design dept. They build an ugly, cheap looking Camry, and now this? And don't even get me started on their other cars...

Glad to see they are trying though instead of the same bland design we see with the Corolla

It's things like this that make me miss the last gen Celica's that looked decent sporty true to what they were a small sporty car that could accommodate a small family. not a family car with a sport look.

(GT86 tails on it)

Why do they make cars look like this then go back to the old look with a minor facelift?

Because then they realize it costs too much and/or turned off too many of their present owners.

The 18/19" wheels won't happen, unless it's a dealer installation. The front doesn't look that much different than the last two generations of the Civic. I don't see the LED lighting or any other fancy bits staying around, except on the top-of-the-line model...which is par for the course with this market segment. And they ain't gonna call it Furai in the Americas.

I like it apart from the shape of the rear. The boot looks like an afterthought. However if they do a hatchback version of this concept, keeping the 86's taillights, I think they could be on to a winner.

Looks good in all its maloccluded splendor.

I think the problem is, once all of the interesting features have been production-ised on this concept car, such as the wheels and attractive headlamp design, the production version will look as bland as a Carolla. For this reason, this concept gets a massive thumbs down from me. Very dull, IMO... Especially the side-profile.

I think it looks brilliant, frankly. Looks like Toyota finally grew some balls and found their own design language.

The front window is too long and that hood is just too short. From the rear though it does actually look decent.

Well the wheels will of course be excluded but I think I read somewhere that production version won't be production -ised ( i love that word) that much.

with cars like the Elantra,Mazda 3 and to an extent the Civic having fairly attractive designs I think Toyota have no other choice although they do have a mega loyal following who appreciate the reliability more than the style.

Sure you don't mean Honda's design language? It just feels like a "futuristic" Civic to me, which isn't a good thing at all. Everything just feels... smashed down and disproportionate to me.

True, true. If Toyota made their cars look as brilliant as the three cars you mentioned, I think it'll be a very good thing. The people who buy carollas... Do they actually look for a conservative looking car? Would Toyota lose a lot of these customers if they made the Carolla look attractive?

If the road car looks almost exactly like this, I think they're on a win.

"Cab forward", they call it. The original Neon was one of the first to go down those lines. Can look a bit odd, but does help increase cabin space.

The front end is far too distinctive to be a Civic, I reckon. Honda doesn't seem to have much brand identity at the moment but there's definitely a theme running through Toyota at the moment. The sort of "winged" front end, where a narrow grille breaks from either side of the badge, has started appearing on quite a few cars, as has the wide front grille.

Actually, having checked, it's much more apparent in Toyota's European range than it is in the US range - the Aygo, Yaris Hybrid, Auris, and Prius range all feature a similar front end. The rest of the shape seems to be becoming a Toyota/Leuxs thing too - very sharp angles, flat sides.

That said, the best angle is the rear 3/4, I reckon:

I'm actually quite surprised that people don't like this thing. Far more surprised than I am that people don't like the Merc CLA or the new Lexus IS.

I liked it a lot, and I'm not just saying it just because I'm a Toyota employee ... I find the Furia extremely gorgeous... :)

In fact I made a presentation of it today... our Sales Crew found it very exciting as well...

There's very little to no information about where and under what circumstances the car was photographed, so we do not know if it's a European or a North American market version (we doubt it's a Japanese model due to the name and the fact that it is a left-hand drive example).

Either way, the styling differences will be limited, with most changes taking place under the hood, as each region will get its own engine range.

The rear gives it more of a mid-sized sedan appeal now.

Still not digging Toyota's design on front fenders.

Not a fan of the chrome grille and rear bezel trinket. I think the parking sensors, headlight washers, and flight attendant won't make it to the US model.
