Traffic

This discussion is now at a point that serves absolutely no purpose in the GT4 forum. First of all, it was about adding a feature to a future GT release, therefor does not pertain to GT4 in any way.

Requesting a lock or at the very least a move. This topic was incorrectly placed.

There were threads about this before, but the discussion didn't fully end.

As bad as this may sound I think I would want GT games to have driving in the city especially the traffic. With real physics engine, and no arcadey stuff tolerance. It would need large cities, perhaps real ones. If i do it in real live then why not do it in a good nonarcade game. In some countries street racing is not racing in a straight line on an empty road, but seeing who is faster in traffic.

If we can drive like this in the game and love it even more.

You have to understand that GT is a racing simulator. Therefore, there is no traffic in racing, only backmarkers.

Welcome to GTPlanet :)

for the original poster, just go find a forum were they talk about these things. All you'll get from now on is nothing good. beleive me.

Its not that Im justifying it, Im letting him know that his assumption of us all being egotistical assholes who swerve through traffic is horribly wrong.

On the part of the ambulance, I highly doubt an ambulance will need to get through a road tucked back in a large industrial complex....

Unless of course there's an accident at your impromptu race track.

I highly doubt that when I'm trying to go about my law-abiding business - at ANY point of the day - I will be confronted by a bunch of ne'er-do-wells illegally blocking off a road I need to go on in order to conduct their illegal activity. But it happens, apparently.

The starter of this thread was also not talking about Clsed off street racing.
He was talking about racing through traffic, as per his video, where the lives of dozens of innocents was being put a risk for the thrill of driving there cars, in an insane manner!

The only time i would like to see traffic in a gt4 game is if you could drive around GT resort to get to dealerships, tune shops and events etc. Even without without traffic it'd be pretty cool although definetely a pointless distraction from the actual game and not really worth the extra development time it would take to implement in any future GT game.

Street racing = :dunce: 💡 :sly: :dopey: :scared:  :ouch: :(

all the thread maker wanted was a feature to drive and race cars through traffic with a quality physics engine and great graphics because those other games burnout and nfsu2 are extremely unrealistic. i totaly agree with him fully.

PD could include this with out "encouraging" dangerous driving, by setting a "movie chase mode" or something like it... however. this is just not possible on the current engine because of very simple reasons... the engine is allready at it's limit with just 6 vehicles... and what fun would this be with out realistic crash physics? not fun at all...

don't think it's gonna happen, but that's one way they could do it. plus.. we need a higher sense of space... GT4 didn't improve too much on this area.. it's outdone by sims like GPL and live for speed in this area. we need neutral.. and a clutch too for this to work the way it should too... it can be done, and it would be fun if they had it. but i don't see it ever happening, plus it's just imposible right now.

but.. this isn't real life.. this is a simulation, exactly whose lives are put at risk? again, PD could do this with out trying to look like they are encouraging bad driving by doing stuff like "movie chase mode" or stuff like that. they could even do it with out getting into that, but since they want this game to have an "E" for evryone it just wouldn't be possible.

That isn't street racing, thats two idiots racing through traffic trying to kill not only themselves but everyone around them. Real street racing is a much more organized event, and stuff like this gives it a horrible name.

street racing is dangerous, period. no amount of organization will ever make it safe for anyone participating in it, "drag street" racing wich is the most common kind (because of the non existent level of skill required to step on the gas) is just as danerous as that video, all it takes is for another car to get in the way and it's good game life. of course, the video that is linked is even more dangerous, because there are multiple cars that could get in the way (not even doubting the abilities of the drivers here, wich most of the time suck.)
it's just retarded and very irresponsable. it's pretty much the same thing as playing russian rulete (how ironic?) with a loaded gun... except pointing it at innocent bystanders too.

I hope I get this in before maybe this thread gets locked. If not, DAMN!

Okay, you ready? It would be pretty pointless to have traffic to a CLOSED CIRCUIT. The only instance I'd see cars around the track is if there are cars and trucks driving over the track. That's perfectly legal and adds a bit of realism, knowing that you're on an active track. And if you want an example of a living, breating city, try out the Grand Theft Auto games (except for the idiots who pack guns and travel in packs). San Fierro (GTA: san Andreas) has that trolley and all sorts of cars and bikes going about. This is about the only instance where I'd imagine seeing cars on the track without actually being ON the track. And when you have six cars battling on track, you really wouldn't see any other cars trying to ruin the fun for you. In other words, it ain't going to happen, player. You dig me?

Okay, should be all. If the thread gets locked, don't request it to be re-opened or make a similar thread on this because you'll be denied like Oklahoma trying to beat USC for a national title.

he's not talking about circuits, he's talking about cities in GT4, it would actually be pretty neat (even if you are not racing) to have the "gran turismo resort" to be some sort of city, where you could drive to all the tracks in GT world and any destination it might have, even better if it was online. but this of course would be too much to handle even for a next generation console. so it's not gonna happen.

Are we still talking about this?

Gran Turismo = Italian for "Grand Touring", or "GT" racing. Which, in real life, takes place on a closed circuit, usually a dedicated race track. Which usually (somewhere around 100% of the time) don't have any traffic on them. And, again, GT racing is a professional motorsport. Street racing isn't. Not professional. Not even legal. End of discussion.

Was a stupid discussion anyway.

While we're at it, let's add cops! Yeah! And hookers we can pick up and take to the pit area!

No, I don't want this discussion to carry on anymore. I'm bumping it so it gets noticed for a lock.

LIEK ZOMG LOCK PLZ

I believe street racing is an incredibly dangerous activity and I believe those who do it in a way that endangers others shouldn't be on the roads.

May I add that the official slogan for the GT series is "the real driving simulator". NOT the ultimate track racing simulator or whatever. It would be nice to have traffic in city driving or driving on the Isle of Man, Targa Florio, the Great Ocean Road, the Auto-Bahn etc etc.

It would be great fun for GT5.

Lets put this into perspective:

1. There is no official "street racing" in

2. You drive around as your normal punter in a 328Ci or Integra or whatever

3. You're on the Targa Florio for a nice pleasant country drive and you see a Mercedes SL500 driving around. This guys is obviously an enthusiastic driver so you drop it down a gear just to chase him round a bit.

4. With GT5 crash physics in and all, you'll defintely need to be very careful not to be stupid and turn your Integra into a Japense box. (you'll need to pay for repairs!)

5. You push yourself a bit too far and you hit gravel on the side and understeer into the side walls. You've stuffed your car so you need to repair the front panels and pay for a set of new headlamps.

6. It teaches you not to be an ass on the road and do what those idiots in the M5 and RS4 were doing. It just lets you have that grin factor of chasing someone else just a little over the legal limit (maybe going about 10-20k over).

I defintely do NOT want strippers walking around on the streets and people coming up behind you in a fully riced up 350Z coming up from behind betting you.

This mode I've invented will have no bennefits rather then a grin factor for yourself. No winning money or any nonsense like that.

Also you can be fined by speeding cameras or police when driving around too fast on the main roads.....BUT you HAVE to pull over for police. We don't want GT turning into Gone in 60 Seconds. So you pay for fine out of the money you've earned from your races. Less money to mod your car, enter races etc etc.

Was it worth it? Driving around in an everyday environemt would be AWSOME but let there be similar consequences as in the real world.

Does anyone like my idea? I hope I've satisfied as many people as I can including myself :)

Will somebody Please think of the children?

But honestly, street racing just plainly sucks (for everyone but the "racers" - until they crash, of course).
...
As for street racing in video/GT games, I think it would be too random to make for a fun experience for a longer period of time (with realistic physics).
Instead, I would appreciate some kind of "cruising" mode where you can drive around beautiful landscapes and some high speed freeways (Autobahn).

In the example of the guy watching the guy whizz by outside the McDonalds (at 75) and then getting hit by his friend BEHIND him (at 85). . . . .

Why is the guy going faster on an (assumedly) straight road BEHIND?

Just thought I had to chime in on that ;)

He set off 5 seconds after him and is trying to catch up.

Could be interesting to drive on the ring in the real conditions, with bikes and cars to overtake and finding other interesting cars to drive behind to se how they do...

At the same time I'd like driving on open road, the same way of the old need for speed, with real famous road, for example the Targa Florio, the Stelvio...with the phisics engine of GT4.

No city please.

The Targa Florio would, in the fullest sense of the word, ROCK! Would no doubt give the designers, developers etc. a few headaches but with PS3 on the horizon who knows what future GT iterations may have in store. I would have said the same about the 'Ring when Gran Turismo first launched. Here's hoping, nay praying. :)

no i hate your idea it sucks. youve satisfied no one. i think street racing is the best idea any one has come up with ever for gt4.

Wow. Just wow. The more I read this thread, the worse a name street racers and fans of the "sport" make for themselves. :indiff:

I am not wanting to put in an idea of "street racing" being in GT4.

I just want the REALISTIC circumstances of driving on the real public roads.

I mean common, I'm not talking about the rubbish of using Evos with custom paint jobs and racing stickers all over it to win girls over on the streets. Thats just lame.

On the real roads you are always going to get tempted to chase after some car on the road around a few challening corners on a nice back road.

Cruising the streets of famous cities and locations would be awsome but how gay would it be if your car was electronically limited to 62mph? 👎

I like the idea, but I just don't think it fits with GT in any way shape or form. If PD made another driving title, I'd be all for this. But I just don't want to see GT go down that road.

I'll leave the thread now. Have fun. 👍

It may have that meaning but GT4 is a DRIVING simulator.

What does legality have to do with someone being able to do it professionally? There are tons of people who make their money dealing drugs, street racing, etc.

SaintKamus
no amount of organization will ever make it safe for anyone participating in it
That's funny, because the difference between making something legal and not legal, usually, is the "organization" of it.
