Great! At least this series can come back. I'm a Trans-Am fan. Only thing that would probably make me happier is to see all-new cars like the Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro Trans-Am-ized. Then maybe Ford can make a TA version of their Mustang. At least this is great news that one of the best racing series in American history will return. Great find, RACECAR!

Same here. It would be a wonderful time to shape it the exact way it was in the golden age: All American Iron from Detroit battling it out. I've already seen a 2008 race prepped Camaro in Penske colors so lets bring out the Boss Mustangs and the Sublime challenger! :D

Only thing then would be for Sam Posey to drive that sublime Challenger. :D

A couple of questions for you guys...
  1. Will Sunoco be sponsoring the Penske Trans-Am Chevy Camaro entry?
  2. Will Pontiac be involved in the series as well with the latest version of the G8? And...
  3. Will Mark Skaife drive one of the G8 cars if they do enter them? Hey, they are based off the Holden Monaro if I'm not mistaken. ;)
Add-it: As for the cars, let's hope they stay very true to their road-going counterparts aside from the addition of a rear spoiler.:D

It's based off of the Commodore, actually. I doubt Mark Skaife would join the Trans Am driver line-up. He has said he wants to take it easy and he does have a wife and children here too.

Well, one can dream, can't he? :O

A welcome sight for this :

That is EXACTLY what I'm talking about! And I like what I see.:sly:👍

@ Jackington: Would it be a stretch on my part to say the V8 Supercars series might have been influenced by the Trans-Am series?

A Ford Mustang in the venue :

Still looking for a new gen. Camaro to post here.

Great find Leno. Dont want to be a stick in the mud ,but are'nt the BIG 3 broke? Guess the racers will be on there on. Well thats prob best anyway.:dopey:

It almost takes my breath away to see that Challenger in racing trim.

Technical rules will be based on the SCCA Club Racing GT-1 class.

I presume this means that the cars will still be silhouette space-framed cars rather than production car based (monocoque chassied)?

Seeing these on the track along with who knows how many others would be a dream come true right there.

Nice find RACECAR , I looked and could not find the Camaro , that is sweet. I am getting pumped up by just the thought of these cars coming back to life on a racecourse as opposed to seeing them on a dragstip.

This race series is going to be awesome !!!!! :)

Thought - perhaps this form of racing and the cars could be included in GT5 ?????? 💡💡💡

Most likely.

Will they have doors as well?

hmm, i always thought the Koni Challenge Grand Sport class was a proper Trans-am reincarnation . i guess we'll see if SCCA can take this version anywhere

I think this is just gonna be the same thing that Trans Am was when it was put on hold: the tube-frame GT-1 cars. I'm afraid that means no muscle-wars.

There's a historic Trans Am league out there somewhere.

I was totally shocked they picked now to restart the Trans-Am series given the current economic trends. They're starting it up with SCCA GT1 spec cars much like when they restarted the series in the late 70s. They're not counting at all on manufacturers I guess.

Yes, unfortuneately!

Will they have doors as well?

No!

I agree 100%!!! Use production cars just like the original Trans-Am!

Well, should we call it the TINO Series then?

TINO = Trans-Am In Name Only

I think it is great to see the big TA tube framers return, they are an American motor sports tradition. Get rid of the ridiculous bodywork and we've got something.

My pleasure, my friend. I'd still like to learn more about the cars and stuff to race this year's season.

Bummer John , your no ways near any of these events. I will get as many pics as possible for this event and post some up here with some info on them.

C'mon May 30-31
