like someone said, dont bother with open lobbies if you want a decent race, race with mates or with a league or something

So, a couple of weeks ago, I decide to give my wireless connection a go on the online lobby. BIG MISTAKE! I entered a room called "JDM vs Euro" and thought it sounded promising. So I chose a BMW 135i Coupe and started free driving. What happened? Idiots doing 360s in the middle of the track and driving in the wrong direction.
Got out of there immediately and never bothered going back for two reasons a) the connection was constantly being lost and b) just confirmed my beliefs about people not really wanting to race but act like pricks.

Have you found that for the most part this is the status quo online?

@Ryan81 I think you'll find the majority of open-lobbies are created by casuals that might not be as serious about the game as others. You're already in the right place here at GTP to find what you want; what you really need to do is join a league or group here on GTP that share the same interests of racing as you. It will be like a different world in terms of gameplay for you.

👍

Set SRF off & Race for Real. Most of those rooms are legit.

Just because one room online is poorly run doesn't mean they all are :)

Avoid rooms that use any type of race tire or even sport soft tires. Its rare to find a clown who will still used comfort softs or sport hard tires.

Room size also plays a big role, once most rooms reach 10-12+ players chaos seem to follow even if the room was fine before. It becomes too big for the host to regulate since there are too many drivers to keep track of.

Once that threshold is met typically something odd happens where some of the drivers who were once clean see that the room is a free for all so they join in the chaos too and it snowballs from there.

I don't have any friends LOL not virtual ones, anyway. Come to think of it, practically no real ones, either

1) NEVER use a wireless connection to play online, it's never as good as ethernet connected.

I have a wireless connection and I almost never have any connection issues. It all really depends on how good your internet connection is and if your PS3 is located near an ethernet port.

It still gives you connection cuts. Wired > Wireless. Always

I host lobbies through C.R.A.P (Casual Racing Affiliates Programme) that is solely based around clean, fair and fun racing. We take the lobby etiquette very seriously and people ramming, dive-bombing and being rude will be kicked immediately, as for any reverse driving or any other nonsense. If it is the start of the race however then people mess about waiting for the timer to count down (which is acceptable).

We race 15 minute long races with light damage and realistic settings. This keeps out most of the idiots as they want to do 2 lap races at most with boost on. The races are normally with a set car(s) and we race the same ones all night, i.e Clio Trophy.
I have a strong connection and I rarely experience lag or connection issues when hosting these events but it can happen occasionally.

If you are a clean racer who just wants to enjoy racing with like minded people then come along, you are all welcome. Any riffraff will be booted. C.R.A.P was founded on the basis of avoiding these people online and we are always looking for more members if you enjoy racing with us and are clean and courteous.

These events will be run every Wednesday from 8:45 (GMT) until gone midnight (or whenever I get too tired). The first race will be on the 29th of January so come along.

Ignore the free advertising.

That isn't all we do though.

Endurance races up to around 2 hours, CRAP On A Budget series, other non tuning, single make series+++ Etc. Etc.....

Just posting this in case anyone thought that all we do is 15 minute races.

I had a couple of good races last night online, the best since GT5. I was in a room full of French guys who all had GT5Racing_tags. Minimal lag plus lots of very clean & competent driving made for a great time. Can't wait for the online updates, I hope it works straight out the box.

You gotta race with good drivers to have a good race. Go find some! 👍

GT6 Online at present sucks at most.

Until shuffle racing comes back I won’t be going on GT6 anymore.

I just hate racing online at the moment, it’s always rooms like “70mph on left cops” <<< I mean WTF!!! If you want that go play grand theft auto for Christ sake!!!

When I do make my own room “500PP CLEAN STOCK” I have maybe 3 people in it at tops, then they quit after 2mins because they can’t drive there Maxed out Vauxhall Corsa Ferrari beaters!

C'mon, there's fun for everyone... GT have all sorts of fun.

But I must agree that there's fewer rooms than GT5 at the moment... and Shuffle races are MUCH needed.

What´s wrong with people who like to cruise? This is a game about driving meaning you are free to drive however you want, and the fact that there are lots of those lobbies should tell about the popularity cruising became. And in grand theft auto you can´t drive with clutch and shifter, can you? I don´t know if that game even has wheel support.

If you call your room 500PP CLEAN STOCK how are there maxed out Corsas in it?

1. maxed out = the opposite of stock
2. Corsas don´t reach 500PP and are very hard to tune, so even if they are good drivers they shouldn´t be a competition
3. If they are a competion despite everything, then why bother, race them!

I have a pretty decent running Corsa managed to leave some guys drooling because they had not expected I could even keep up, and won a few races. I have yet to beat a Ferrari in it though...

Same advice to you as to the OP, have patience you will run across like minded people. Befriend them. Join a league, as mentioned before gtplanet is full of them, pick one that suits you!

Theres nothing wrong with it, but if I want to cruise and drive like I would in real life, then I do just that, I get in my real car and do so. I cant understand the need to cruise on a racing game and yes I no its a DRIVING SIMULATOR, but at its core its a racing game and that’s what it should be about< just my opinion, but each to there own.

I never said there were Corsa's in it, I said they can’t use there modded pocket rockets so they leave.
I have a pretty decent running Corsa .
There’s no such thing as a decent Corsa, its impossible! >>JOKE;) before Corsa lovers start a war, I have had a Corsa Red Top and loved that car.

I appreciate the advice 👍 however I have very little time to actually go online; I have an hour at tops a night until the family are home and GT6 Online at its present stage does not cater for quick easy clean races. So within that hour I don’t want to spend 50mins looking for a decent clean race to join, then by the time I find its time to turn it off, I may just have had bad luck with it, but that’s why clean shuffle was good, coz you could jump straight into usually a decent filled room with clean racers.

I had the free drive problem whenever I tried to play online on GT5. I'd join a lobby, but once I got to the free drive people would just mess about. I never got to an actual race once.

I've not bothered with GT6 online as yet.

I can´t understand how people can watch twilight movies either, its like you said, each to their own!

Nobody wants a war mate,

Sounds like a league would be the perfect way to properly get fun out of the game mate! I´m sure you can find people with a similar schedule to yours, I only ever race sundays at the moment and there was a time in another league where we met almost every evening, I had to stop participating exactly because my freetimes had changed and I didn´t have the time anymore, but I quickly found a new league to race. But its up to you, of course.

Another thing is hopefully the awaited "quick match" option (not sure if called that), will bring usefull features in that regard.
