Here we go again...

It's no Hurricane Ivan, but supposedly, Jeanne will pack a lot of rain. We're due for a hit to the South Florida area in the next few hours. Howver, as of 5pm, we are getting just a little rain and some wind.

I actually hadn't changed a thing since Frances struck, and was well prepared for Ivan. I offered to come to work yesterday and today, to move cars, and actually nominate valets to deliver cars to their respective owners. (Just ask for a credit card number, and you're set!)

Of course, we'd had a few that wanted us to top-off thier fuel tanks; unfortunately, we were all out of gas in the area, and had to close up work around 12pm. So we had to say no to their silly requests for once!

Kathy and I put up the last shutter, took down the satellite dish, and so we're bracing ourselves for the worst Jeanne can do. Which hoefully isn't much. It's quiet outside, save the rain drops. The wind howls along our un-aerodynamic home. It's dark everywhere but the small window on the front door. And we're packed with more "shelf-stable" food, water, batteries, tools, walkie-talkies, a hand-held radio, and a 13" TV with "rabbit ear" antennas.

Wish us luck. We're tropically depressed. :)

I hope everythings ok for you guys in florida...

Speaking of aerodynamics how's that guy's "aerodynamic" house he built?? I don't remember where it was, I just saw it on the news one day? Somewhere in Florida.

:scared:👍

Pupik, I am right here with you! As I sit in our personal shelter (a warehouse across the street from my home) for yet a third time. I know its been said before, but I think its alright if I say it again. I am about tired of this crap. How many times can Hurricanes X over my town? If you don't remember I live South of Orlando, where locals are starting to refer to the area as Hurricane cross-roads. This time though, we don't have all the mess we had from Charile laying around. We got that cleaned up last weekend.
Matter of fact for the last 6 weekends, we have done something that had to do with a hurricane.
For all my Florida friends, stay safe, and need I say, watch out for Lisa.
Damn it this sucks!

I think us J-ville residents are just going to get a lot of wind and rain again. Hopefully I'll get some more cool pictures. :) Best of luck to pupik and Magic!

Don't forget - when Jeanne was a Tropical Storm, she ate the Dominican Republic (only country on Earth to recognise a third gender state) and Haiti, killing 1000 people...

Im glad I live in New Englad where nothing ever happends and were always bored out of our minds. I say you send a few of them hurricans up here to spice things up a bit. I could really use some kind of thrill, soon.

it wasnt that bad.....but then again, i decided to just play rome total war the whole night instead of going outside to shoot another 'cane vid.

Well, I am back, about 24 hours later. Lost power for about half of that. Well, three strikes and your out they say right? Thats exactly what happened to my house. Charley ate up my carport, making it collapse half way, and pushed over some trees. Frances came and pushed over some trees, but the carport lived though it as it was from Charley. Well Jeane took care of that. My carport collapsed (finally), the porch flew over the house itself taking half of the house's roof with it, meaning that side of the house was underwater as of this afternoon. So much if fact, one of the light globes in the kitchen was full to the top with water inside it. Insulation in the ceiling is exposed which also means its full of water, causing the ceiling inside the home to turn brown, and break apart under the weighted water filled insulation. Aluminum is all over my front yard. Oh yeah it also riped off my fireplaces chimey and knocked over one of the last oak trees we had. This out of three has been the worst for my house and my family. I have a lot of work to do tomorrow, joining the tons of people around town putting plastic on whats left of their rooves.
I will take pictures and post them in a new thread as soon as I get them. Don't take this post wrong, the house could be a lot worst, being as its gone through the middle of three storms. I am simply trying to paint a picture for all the members not going through this increbitable season of Hurricanes. Hopefully its over, but we still have 2 months left in the tropical season.

Wow, this is the worst storm I've ever been in. Much more rain and wind than ever before. So far, we've got 1 very large pine tree down, touching our roof and our powerlines ( :nervous: ). We've got another tree on the other side of the house that has bent our fence and is almsot touching the roof. Behind the house we have several trees down. It's hard to tell now because it is dark, but I will be sure to take lots of pictures tomorrow of all the damge.

Poor Magic....you have it really bad right now. My problems are quite small in comparison.

Damage-wise, we fared okay. Everything that was damaged or thrown about by Frances had already been cleaned up, so we just had some palm fronds and twigs to pick up. But I'm using a laptop right now because the power's out.

At around 9pm on Saturday, the transformer blew up right next to our house. I have to say, It's one of the scariest things I've ever been through. It sounds like gun fire, explosions, flashes like fire, and your lights flicker. And you can't go outside to look, because the wind and rain will likely knock you down. So for a while there, I wan't sure if our roof was on fire! After an hour, I figured we'd smell smoke, so we just put it down to transformer damage. Finally, the transformer across the street exploded, so we were in the dark just a little after 10:30pm.

Luckily, we have about 10 flashlights scattered around the house; we've been without air and other necessities for about 36 hours now. But at least we're safe, and dry (sort of). I can't wait to go work this morning, my boss says they have power and a/c right now.

Geez, this just all seems to pale in comparison to Magic's problems right now. And I wonder if Miata13B's okay too. O-town's been spared for years, and now they get hit 3 times in 6 weeks.

Wow, I really feel for you Magic. I too hope that Miata13b is alright. Good to hear that there was little damage over at the pupik residence. 👍

Well, I took almost 30 pictures this morning of all of our damage. Multiple trees down, 2 of which are leaning on the house and one on the powerlines. Theres about 1-2 inches of water in several spots in my backyard. I'll resize and uplod the pictures later today.

Well the full days work is done. I never done so much to one house just to get it livable again. Amazingly we got power back last night so, once we got the circut breakers dry, we got the power running in the house again. Next step, installing the plastic roof. Another strike of luck, my younger sisters husband had a role of visqueen that was 20' wide and 100' long. I used about 13' wide by 50' long just to get the hole covered. And it is a hole, just trusses and installation showing. Next step, knock down what was left of our aluminum porch. It was just unsafe and not sturdy at all, so instead of waiting for something or someone to knock it down. I did it. A lot of work, a lot of screws but finally the biggest section came crashing down onto the concrete. Next step, clean up the yard and other peoples property of the roof that went flying everywhere. Just to let you know, the only reason we lost the roof on the house was because the screen porch took it with it. When we found sections, they had everything from aluminum, OSB (plywood), tar paper, and singles. Full sections of roof. When we built the porch we built it correctly making the ties proper inot the house. That is what killed us though, because when the porch became a sail it took the house roof tied with it. Next and final step was saving one of our last oaks. The only reason the oak fell, (because it was on the side of the house where the wind should have been its weakest) was that it caught a section of the roof I am talking about. The porch came flying over the roof into this tree and boom on the ground she went. Well we got it back up braced it, and we'll see what happens. Now my dad is taking the whole family out to Outback for a much deserved dinner. It was pretty amazing we were all here together (never happens) which is a total of 12 of us now, including the nephews, all doing what we could to repair this house.
I will be posting pictures as soon as I get them into my computer. Thank you for all your concerns, but I think we be able to pull though it. Just pray this is it, because honesty my house can not and will not take other direct hit.

Jeeze guys, sorry to hear about that. :( especially since I was sitting in a beach chair at sunny and beautiful PCB all weekend watching half naked women walk by and all I had to complain about were the damn love-bugs splattered on the ZHP. No damage at the house.. but we're in the panhandle. Good luck with getting everything sorted out.

Man that sucks. I can't believe how many have hit you in a month or two. It is good to see you guys are okay, though the same can't be said to alot of the caribbean islands that were hit.
P.s Just heard that California has been hit by an earthquake, and is suffereing form the aftershocks. There's never any fun in Wales, unless you count the rain we constantly get. Oh wait, that isn't fun :irked:

At least everyone is physically okay, which is what's most important. Sorry to hear about your loss, Magic. :(

Well aren't you the luckly one! Rub it in a little. ;)

I was complaining about the love bugs as well yesterday. Riding the bike isn't as much fun when your smashing love bugs with your body.

As far as October being worse. Lets hope not, my house can't take it, and that the truth. With the way the trades are backed up, it might be a month before my parents home has a new roof. If not longer.

I say they start showing, in the weather forecasts, Florida as a giant ass and any storm coming as a giant boot.

I hope you and your family pull through, Magic. I'm glad no one was seriously hurt.
