People are saying Soft slicks work better in rain than Full Wet or inters. That mkes no sense to me but more than once have I heard this. Does anyone have a definitive answer?

Yes, they do. rain isn't really rain in the game, just reduced traction. RS tires have a lot of traction, even in the rain.

You use up a lot of tire when using the slicks, the amount of tire gone determines the slippage. Compare this, take a powerful FR car in the rain, try RS tires and rain tires, see which has more grip.

Idk man I always use racing slicks because they are already on the car and I don't wanna switch lol. Changed to rain a couple times and felt no difference or worse so screw those tires and just leave the slicks on.

yeah, I ran a b-spec in rain with racing softs and ended up in last place. the same exact car and race with racing tires got 1st place

Try driving in the wet, with Racing Soft tires, Online with Grip Reduction set to Real. Then, switch to Rain tires. You'll notice a difference.

Yes it's true, in GT5...Soft Slicks work best in the rain..

It might have been fixed in a update though...I am not sure..Maybe I try for myself later..:)

Depends on the percentage of the wetness indicator. Racing tires are good to at least 10-25 percent before they begin to slip. Saying racing tires are as fast as rain tires in the full wet is way off. not even close. Anyone saying or implying they can keep up on racing tires in full wet conditions is messing with you or using TC. Id say 25-50 percent is inter territory, but have yet to test inters to their limit. Usually its a little rain or a lot.

Racing soft do NOT work effectively with 100percent water saturation.

Yea they are better to a point, but there is a time when rain tires are nessecary.

If your setting is ''low grip reduction'' slicks will be faster in rain.

If set to ''real grip reduction'' rain tyres are faster.

Offline races have grip reduction set to low, which is why racing softs are the best tyre. In online rooms you can choose between "low" and "real", with "real" being the realistic setting.

With grip reduction on low, racing softs will always be the best tyre to use. With grip reduction on real, you will need to change to wet tyres as the wet track will be properly simulated. ("real" also affects a couple of other things related to grip that aren't related to a wet track, such as getting dirty tyres/a lack of grip after an off track excursion).

This is true in online and Arcade modes with grip reduction set to real. But it doesn't apply to A-Spec races. The only reason to switch to inters or wets in A-Spec is if you want to intentionally match what the AI drivers do. Even with a completely drenched, 100% wet track, slicks are faster.

The option to switch from low grip reduction to real should be in the options menu and only need to be set once, IMHO.

goto raining Suzuka and find out. the difference is pretty obvious, but that was before 2.0... i haven't tried it since the update.

When racing the 24 hour race, I did 6 hours in the rain and were a few laps ahead, so I experimented. On a FR car, I did full wets on the front and soft slicks on the rear. The wheel spin kept them from becoming too cold, but they didn't wear as much as dry weather. However, I was slower with the wets on the front. The wets did, however, prevent massive understeer and improve braking distance. I was about 5-10 seconds (relaxed) off full dry conditions at La Sarthe. I actually got the fuel down to 2 liters left before needing to pit for gas, not tires. I changed them anyways, but I bet I could have done the above combination for 15-16 laps on good tires.

When I'm racing in online rooms, the guys with racing softs always finish about 20-30 seconds in front of the guys with rain tyres.

We always race with it on real, surface water was below 50% though, don't know how much that plays a part in it.

Plays quite a big part, inters might've been more appropriate. I noticed the other night at Spa in the rain it got pretty tricky once the surface water got over 50 percent.

This is the 100% version of it.

I know that the default setting for online is essentually the wrong one. And easy to over look, so some have probably got the wrong idea.

So always make sure that grip reduction is set to: real.
