Tuning Priorities

This is something that I've wondered about for a while... okay, say you're fairly early into the game. You've just gotten a decent car that you can use for a lot of races, but you're low on money and can't buy all the upgrades you want right away. As you're putting the car together one race at a time, what are do you work on first? Is horsepower your main concern, or do you concentrate on the drivetrain and suspension first? Or do you get good tires and shave off all the weight you can, and let the rest take care of itself?

Personally I prefer to work on the drivetrain and tires first, then comes suspension and weight reducing, and finish up with boosting the engine as appropriate. I've always felt it's easier to get a feel for a car when I leave the engine stock and work around it, plus making the engine too big too early can cause a lot of problems until the other parts to go with it are installed.

How about the rest of you? Got any particular philosophy on building the perfect beast?

I buy the chip, then the air intake. After that I go to the tranny. After that I fnish up hp. Then Suspension.

Personally i like to do drivetrain first, with suspension following right behind :-) Sometimes, i'll do suspension right after a nice flywheel and clutch upgrade.... thats when i don't mind the stock tranny.. I think i'm very similar to your style though.. Drivetrain, suspension and then adding HP mods as i see fit.

I take the approach that most real world people do.

Tires, lighten it, chip it,gear it, suspension, and finally expensive engine mods.

In other words, I learn to drive it first, then am able to control it once I get more HP into it.

Tires, then lighten, and then a turbo 3 or NA 2.

Yeah, ditto here. Tires first, weight reduction second. I prioritize racing transmission vs. racing suspension on a car-by-car basis but usually I do suspension first. Like AO said, I try to utilize every existing horsepower first, before I just throw more at it.

Usually i go for weight reduction, tires, drivetrain, suspension and then build up on engine mods. if the race requires for a certain car to not be modded (like doing a weight reduction) then i do the same thing as Der Alta said

I usually dont bother with racing suspension, I get semi-racing.
but I start with the flywheel (racing) to help the engine rev easier and accelerate faster, then semi race suspension.
engine mods (NA tune and turbo) are last if at all. I will chip and engine balance before turbo, etc.

For comps I am all about drivetrain and suspension, first.
Especially if there is a cash limit on what can be spent.
I am considering a restart...
Probably will wait until the next time I'm in "Wally World" and get a new memory card.
Then, I will try to "play nice" with the AI. Maybe even give it a fighting chance.
I have a card around here somewhere that has most cars with only stage 2 power ups.
My kids have put it somewhere since Christmas...

carbon driveshaft (if possible), then flywheel. after that, stuff sometimes gets mixed based on the car. if it already has a good amount of go, tires. if it's just too heavy, weight reduction. if it's too touchy, suspension. but normally, clutch, LSD, transmission. then on to the tires, and lastly, power.

hmm, why the carbon driveshaft first?
