Wales were as good as England were bad tonight...

Seconds left in the England game and they pass the ball back to the last defender who takes it back over the half way line and prompts the final whistle?? What the hell are they doing?!

Wales deserved winners of the group and England have to settle for 2nd place... although judging by the draw, 2nd place in Group B actually looks like a potentially easier game than 1st place in the last 16.

So happy for Wales :D:D:D:D

But then again Russia were crap, England just couldn't break through but not the end of the World as some people are making out, at least they are through....

England team needs goal scoring lessons seemingly. Wales matched their efforts in a single game.

Gareth Bale top scorer with three from three. 👍👍

Not the end of the world and an extra days rest. Think swapping six players was at least 2 too many. Wilshere should be put on the next plane home, waste of a squad place.

Wilshere and Henderson. Both are completely ineffectual. Can't see us getting past the quarters to be honest. Spain, Italy, Germany and France will tear us apart.

England struggle against teams who just defend, might be good against attacking teams, will have good counter-attacking options....

Wales might start getting used to topping competitive groups with results like that. Russia deserve a poorly drawn gold star for their performance.

Chances of England against Portugal in the next round? Surely both sides going all out in attack wouldn't mean we'd have to endure a missed-chance-a-thon like no other?

England have spent so long being criticised for not having possession, they've spent so long trying to get it, they now have no idea what to do with the ball.

What needs to be sorted out is the corners. Rooney needs to stop taking them, because he had scored from them so many times for England recently, Kane should not take them either because he's rubbish. Roy needs to get Henderson and Alli to spend the next few days taking corners constantly in training because they're the usual types of players to take them.

You'd have thought by now that teams had worked out how to stop the England right back destroying them time after time.

Congratulations to Wales, great result!... as for England, at least we didn't loose.... again

Russian team be like...

One of the most frustrating England games I've ever watched. 3 times I think I counted where Slovakia were not inside their box and attacking for us to get the ball, sprint to the half way line then pass it around sideways for a minute to allow Slovakia to stream past us and back into defence. Vardy was nullified by us playing slow not by Slovakia defending.

But for a last-gasp winner against Wales, England would have failed to win a game for a second major tournament in a row. The fact that England can't beat an abject Russian side (see above :p), can't score against Slovakia (a good side, but not exactly world-beaters) and just edged past Wales is a pretty sorry state of affairs.

All credit to Wales though - although Bale has proved to be the decisive edge, they have a great team spirit, look motivated and creative, and also have a strong core of players that can deliver when necessary.

edit: My mate pointed out that Portugal have three strategic plans; A) give the ball to Ronaldo, b) give the ball to Ronaldo and C) give the ball to Ronaldo. And in the event of plan A, B or C not working, the back up plan is to give the ball to Ronaldo. I agree with @Wiegert - England v Portugal could be hilarious - if it comes to pass, I'm going to switch the commentary off and have Yakety Sax playing in the background instead.

So far Wales have scored more goals at Euro 2016 (6) than England have at Euro 2016 (3) and World Cup 2014 (2) put together... and Wales weren't even in Brazil.

I find that incredible. England have quality, pacy strikers and create chance after chance after chance but can't stick it away. It beggars belief.

England aren't creating chances though, they have a bunch of players, half of them out of position, doing a lot of running and don't have anyone feeding the strikers with passes.

Henderson and Wilshere are both poor, Milner shouldn't be playing in the centre, Alli has been stuck out on the wing and Rooney, for all the people saying that he is playing great, hasn't made a killer ball.

England do have more of a reputation behind them, so teams are more likely to try and bed in and hold them back. Up against Wales, apart from Gareth Bale, much of the squad is unheard of in other countries, and they don't have as much of a reputation, so other teams will set up to try and beat them, leaving the door open to punishment.

England need to work out that if you can't score in open play, you have to score from set plays. Admittedly they got hardly any free kicks in good positions against Slovakia, but the corners have been appalling all season from England, so they need to start taking those opportunities when they can.

Northern Ireland v Germany and Ukraine v Poland on now...

Germany 1-0, Muller with goal, deservedly so as they have been dominant, NI fans making a lot of noise, Poland-Ukraine 0-0, means NI stay in third for now and could play Wales....

Poland and Germany both win 1-0, Germany top the group on GD with Poland second who play Switzerland in the last 16, Germany will play a third place team, NI finish third and can still qualify (??)and Ukraine bottom on zero points and were terrible.

Gomez made the goal, not Müller.

Spain vs Italy in the last 16. A repeat of the final 4 years ago
The winner of which will likely play Germany in the quarters, and the winner of that quarter-final will probably play France in the semis. Obviously, only one of those teams will make the final.

And to make matters worse we now have Spain in our side of the draw. We're screwed. Whoever makes it to final from this side of draw should have a cakewalk in the final.

Croatia superb tonight, Northern Ireland andSlovakia both qualify as third place teams, NI will play Wales or France on Saturday.

Spain had an unbeaten Euro record stretching back to their last group game of Euro 2004 before tonight.

Will he blame Austria this time - and refuse to change shirts again?

Well, Iceland didn't really play football... I believe that's the sport this Euro is all about, football not rugby. Playing against a team who wants just a draw, is really frustrating, with the 11 players behind the ball...

Happened the same to Spain in their first game, only difference being they got that lucky goal by Pique, that was possible due to a mistake from the Czech defence.

But hey, maybe this afternoon things will be different even though a tie will suffice. Maybe luck is in our (Portugal) side this time.

Wales is making an impressive championship, while Russia did the complete opposite. Croatia surprised last night. England is improving game after game, even though they tied the last one. France is scoring the decisive goals in the last minutes, let's see if, for now on, it will be the same exact thing... Romania played very well in their first game, it was really bad for them suffering that goal.

So Portugal v Hungary, Austria v Iceland on now with Italy v Ireland and Belgium v Sweden on tonight as the group games come to a close, Portugal were on a walkabout near their hotel earlier when a reporter asked Ronaldo asked him if he is prepared for the match and Cristiano grabbed his mike and chucked into the lake, Tetchy!
