Uh-oh! Nakajima to race for Williams in 08!

Remember it was his first pitstop, I thought he drove fairly well in Brazil. Im not his greatest fan but we do have worse drivers in F1 i think.
 
Well so much of Ralf Schumacher joining Williams..... :rolleyes:
But its still uncertain if Nico is staying at Williams or move to McLaren......but still, this is going to be great to find out whats going to happen next.... :D

About the pitspot gone wrong by Nakajima, it was his first Pitspot IN RACE but they practised a lot of Pitstopping before his first race!
 
Yeah, but there's still the whole nervousness factor to consider. Sure, he's a Formula One driver and therefore supercool, but he's only human. As drivers have proven before, sometimes they let their emotions get the better of them (read: Piquet vs. Salazar back at Hockenheim). He was probably nervous and slipped up in his first race, which is perfectly understandable. And if he keeps doing it, he'll probably lose his seat.
 
It’s still a stupid mistake. There’s just no need to race into your pit box in your first grand prix. There is nothing to gain.
 
and there was me thinking Williams would get a better driver to partner Nico, but yeah I'll echo others and say thank god its not Ralf.

On that, Toyota have confirmed Timo Glock as their new driver. However, BMW say to still have Glock under contract...

Oh and, good to see Nakajima taking a racing seat after only 1 testing year :cheers:

Nico & Naka, seems like Williams has found itself a proper pair of drivers. Nakajima may have run over a mechanic when he braked too late for his stop, but he also set a 5th-fastest lap, faster than oh-so-great Nico, or the BMW duo... And if it wasn't for that spin (which wasn't caused by him, if I recall), he could've scored on his debut race.

He's up there in the "guys to watch" list for 2008 for me.

Do you think they will be able to compete with BMW? Or just be a better 4th place team?

No, but in a pitstop later in his career, Riccardo Patrese hit a mechanic and injured him. I think it was in 1981. The unsuspecting pit crew member got away with a broken leg.

He came close, though.

I think people should cut him some slack, it was his first pit stop and its not like other F1 drivers even pro's haven't injured their pit crews in one way or another... people have been pulled away with the fuel hose, run over, landed on the nose etc etc...

Yes but as Blake pointed out, the speed he came in at just wasn't needed, I think he just paniced.

As for how I think he'll fare in '08, I think he'll have a Kovalinen type of year, if the car is worthwhile, I can seem him coming on leaps and bounds over the year. Can't see him beating Rosberg however.

Either way, Williams have a rather tasty line up for the next few years..

Indeed, but there’s a difference between your first race, where all you have to do is prove you can drive quickly and finish, and a race where you’re fighting for the lead.

There was no need for Nakajima to attack the braking point. How much does half a second in a pit-stop matter when you’re so inexperienced and could make such a big mistake?

I don't know, he could challenge occasionally. He did set a faster lap during the race, and apart from the qualifying, he was consistently very-close, on his debut race...

it was probably the adranaline that got to him. it was his first race and was probably trying to impress williams.
or he wanted to get noticed and running over his pitcrew was a good idea to him:dunce::dunce:

I would think that forgetting where to stop in the pit may be slightly better than adrenaline, but that would explain his lack of focus in the car when the pit stop came.
