These days they only roadtest one car per week, two if we're lucky. Invariably it is either a grand tourer or a supercar. It's been done to death; dark silhouette, water shots, slow motion, decoloured environmental filter to accentuate the colour of the car and that music signature that goes "woooooarp woooooarp woooooarp". It just doesn't interest me and neither did the car they were reviewing.
It's rubbish. Especially when they get flavour of the month singer/actor shilling whatever upcoming release they have.
It was awfully contrived, the three of them standing around pretending that they'd 'accidentally' not left someone manning the chairs and table. I just want some blokes talking about cars, not a pantomime.
As above. Contrived, scripted and just not that funny. When the show went from a niche car show to a mass market car-themed entertainment show they lost a lot of spontaneity or at least the ability to reproduce spontaneity.
That, actually is the crux of it. I liked the entertaining car show but the car-themed entertainment show is a scripted mess. Well, it has always been scripted but today it is patently obvious.
I still watch out of habit because once in a while there are still some interesting challenges and segments. Best bits of the last few years, for example, would be the rallycross challenge and the mobility scooter challenge. The Nile special was good, too.
Given the teaser in episode one, I'm quietly anticipating the CCCs. There looked like two, possibly three of them.
