Well now I want to know what it was that caused them to suddenly pull their biggest (or one of their biggest) earner(s). Maybe he punched someone?

Maybe the producer wanted Cristina Kirchner as the next Star In A Reasonably Priced Car? Or Nicola Sturgeon

Wonder which celebrity they booked has had to cancel

EDIT: Apparently it was Gary Lineker

Maybe this season hasn't seen the viewing figures of previous seasons and they need some car-fuffle to serve as marketing/promotion? Bets that it will be back on air the following week?

Really don't know what to make of this news...

Ooops.

Clarkson to front new show called Sixth Gear. Bigger budget, better writers, no SIARPC. I'd watch it

not really, but it's fun to dream.

"This Sunday's episode was set to feature the trio - Clarkson with Richard Hammond and James May - getting to grips with classic cars such as a Fiat 124 Spider, an MGB GT and a Peugeot 304 Cabriolet.

They were set to take to the road and end up at a classic track day, while ex-footballer Gary Lineker was the 'star in a reasonably priced car
' ".

I wonder why they had to stop the screening of the latest episode though?

It can't be just for the fact that they might be behind schedule can it? Surely not?

It is true that the rating have been down for this series but not a huge amount, this series has averaged around the 5.5 million mark when it usually gets 6 million plus...

As much as Top Gear has completely uprooted itself from its origins and become a cash cow entertainment show first, and an informative car show last, spearheaded by Clarkson the banter machine, it really wouldn't be the same without him. I seriously hope that this is resolved quickly and he is reinstated. And I will hopelessly hope that the show returns to the formula of at least the first few seasons someday.

And please give Hammond acting lessons.

Fantastic journalism from the BBC:

The presenter himself has remained silent, however last month he tweeted a post saying a "new presenter for Top Gear" was wanted.

"Applicant should be old, badly dressed and pedantic but capable of getting to work on time," he said.

If the reporter had taken time to read one more tweet, they'd have seen Clarkson was referring to James May and his tardiness, yet they've made it out to be some hint that he's known for a while that he might leave.

They film all the studio stuff on the Wednesday before it airs, so that would have been tomorrow for Sunday's show.

Yes.

Unfortunately Clarkson's synonymity with Top Gear means that he gets to determine what the entire show is like - the triumvirate of Clarkson, Richard Porter (script editor & SniffPetrol) and Andy Wilman (producer) is Top Gear. It's written as a vehicle for him and his 'controversial' 'opinions' - because he's a colossal commercial asset - and he is at the core of all that is wrong with the show.

Hammond is an irritating, pointless chimp. He can't act (which he's required to do a lot, because every segment is heavily scripted and they have to pretend it isn't), he can't speak with any authority about anything and he has absolutely no personality. Every bit of his pieces to camera is annoying, with his speech metered so as to be condescending despite not actually knowing anything and long pauses while he stares down the camera and grins.

I'd watch 55 minutes of James May doing everything on his own.
I love how of all three, Clarkson has the least media apperances. Hammond is mostly on Americanish shows, while James is actually the most appearances in not just tv show but also web originals.

I remembered May besides Neil deGrasse at some point.

Time for a Top Gear dream team

Chris Harris/ Tanner foust/ Dickie meaden.

Other candidates include the young evo guy, Tiff and keeping James May.

Chris Evans maybe??

I'd guess it's simply incomplete.

I'd be happy to see Chris Evans take over (as @MUSC4EVER suggested), and Hammond composted as per @Famine's suggestion. James May - I really like him but I'm not sure how he'd get on without being the foil for the large oaf or the stuttering midget.

Chris Evans maybe??

Oh Hell, I hope not, although he's already an employee.

Definitely Chris Harris though 👍

Keep the Hamster, as well as James, just get rid of the 6'5" egotist.

He would be his old fashioned, dorkishly riotous self as in his other programmes. Brilliant. You can find him on old Top Gear to see his own archetype. I think James May, Tiff Needell and maybe Chris Harris would be excellent.

Hmm, no. Definitely not Chris Evans either - a TV presenter and car enthusiast he may be, but he's also a 🤬.

I'd keep James May and add Alex Goy - XCAR don't keep getting awards for the sake of it. Since that's sensible and fun dealt with and I've always thought TG needed a properly competent wheelman to replace Tiff, for a completely left-field third man I'd put in Rob Barff.

I'll give you Alex Goy although he is a bit too nice (for top gear) but you've got to have Chris Harris to compensate for the lack of trouble making (and add some hoonage).

How about Harry Metcalfe, even after I murdered the spelling of his name I'd love to see endless footage of his Countach.

Or wait a minute, a Famine and @niky dream team? with @homeforsummer ?

Oh no, from the sublime (Chris Harris) to the ridiculous (Barff).

Chris Harris presents and pedals equally admirably as far I can tell from watching him but Barff just makes me want to......smarmy.....

I just don't like Chris Harris. At all.

Rob Barff is great though - I have a feeling he'd take to it like an aquatic bird to a pelagic environment.

Really? I never got that toadying vibe from him - quite the opposite in fact.

I had him in the car on a GT Academy autocross event and the timing guy was having a problem resetting the stopwatch. Barff shouted out of the window "There's a problem with the organics on it."
"What?"
"There's a nob on the end of it."

I'm in for that :D

The only way Top Gear could work with different presenters now, would be with a complete reformatting of the show. Seeing as the current trio have been in the show for so long, they are now the show. And nobody can replace them in the current format without them being seen as lousy ripoffs, and viewing figures would then drop to the point the show would just get cancelled anyway.

The only reason Top Gear has been so successful is because of the Jeremy Clarkson. He's probably one of the last people in entertainment who's not afraid to make a joke about any one and that's what makes the show appealing to a lot of people, especially those who aren't even into cars. Without him, it'll just be as bad as Top Gear USA.

2002 was a complete reformatting of the show - but they still retained Jeremy Clarkson.

I've got no problem with the show being reformatted anyway - you can write the script for any episode if you know the cars that will be in it now. US TG makes ours look like crap.
