I say they should make it an option in general to turn the censor on or off, I play plenty of mmo/moba games online where you can do this and it's only your fault if you don't like the language you see on the screen.

Consecutive identical letters followed by 'ed,' 'er' and 'ing' are generally best avoided; I'm partial to saying "nagging suspicion" and have had to break myself of it. Oh I do love playing "Guess The Censored Word!!!"

It's hugely frustrating when you write a message in a lobby, only to find it gets censored despite not featuring any profanities. So this thread will be a handy guide to all the words that get censored which probably shouldn't. OP will be updated with your findings.

English
Pitted
Eased
xxx
Whippersnapper
LSD
Conrod
Monaro
Wankel
Classes
Episode
Piston

German
Wenigstens
(at least)
Nicht (not)
Dass (that)
Bitte (please)
I'll raise you -
Z06 - As in, a Corvette, or apparently, something murderous? I'd ask PD, but I'd get a 3-part answer that took infinity to complete.
206 - As in, a Peugeot 206, or apparently, something murderous? I'd ask PD, but I'd get a 3-part answer that took infinity to complete.

That's right, a sequence of numbers is banned  (at least it was in GT5, I haven't tried it in GT6)
Even funnier, that sequence of numbers (both actually) are not just already in the game, but yup, yoooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu guessed it, they're ******* cars!

Fortunately, I have figured it out. Yes sir.
All of PD's programmers are either mentally deficient, or they hate the GT series. Seriously, it's like hack-job programming from these guys anymore. Total idiocy.

The very obvious point of this thread is to point out that there are a great variety of words being censored which have no reason to be censored.

And please tell us all how hiding the world from children prepares them for the world? I know when I need to prepare for something I find the best thing to do is to deny all knowledge of it. Do you have any evidence that a game suitable for children needs to be censored?

Engine is some kind of old term for American Indians...

I have no idea what you're banging on about about. Do you really believe the creaters of GT are inhibiting your freedom?

I shall now repeat what I said for you.

Gran Tursimo 6 is a G rated game. Yes?

You are aware that means it is suitable for children. Yes?

Well in most nations in this world censorship applies to childrens programs on television, movies and yes, even games. Thus some words are prevented from being writen in the text box.

The reason some words are banned, that you think shouldn't be, is simple. There are more languages than English in this world. Hard as that may be to believe.

You asked for evidence as to why censorship exists? Obviously to inhibit your freedom and oppress you personally.

Seriously though, I think censorship exists for people like yourself. I have come across you when I used to play and host lobbies, and I have booted you several times, and received uncensored messages from you on psn.

That never happened, you could never get me so emotionally involved as to send an abusive message. That would require me to care. Also I never mentioned anything about freedom nor did I ask why censorship exists. You again said 'suitable for children', I was posing the question of how censoring words made it suitable for children. You replied to what was almost entirely your own invention.

Tell me what language 206 is offensive in then please.
Thanks in advance.

Engine is equally obnoxious, and not to be confused with "injen", which while claimed deragotory, is actually just southern accent on the word Indian.

Well, i just quickly browsed the 4 first pages here and I can give a French list.

Manger - [eat]
balle - [ball] (that was usefull for the world cup :D)
jaune - [yellow]
américain - [american]
bridé - [flanged]
japonais - [japanese] (japanese is censored as well if I remember correctly)
petite - [small]
piste - [track/tarmac]
tard (and everything containing "tard" - [late]

And I certainly forget a lot. I'll add them later.

"con" = vagina in french, but is now mostly used to mean stupid, or annoying.

@atiger
It wasn't even a cuss word to begin with, and today, every French 5 year-old already knows the word, no need to censor.

bitte (please)
remove a "t" and you have the most usual spelling for the male parts in french -think "male chicken" in english.
It can also be spelled bitte, but that spelling also means mooring post or bollard (Robert&Collins).

tard is because it's often used for "retard" (abruti), ball(s) = couilles en anglais, no idea why the others are censored though. Salut au fait! ;)

In Swedish,"kuk" is another word for "pen*s". More like "di*k"
works in english phonetically too, the French "bite/bitte" lol

____

Lots of words might get flagged because part of them is a cuss word in some language e.g. "passes" in the OP, it's dumb. Good thing I have a mic.

I think the word "pits" is/was censored, smart move in a racing game if so...

Some spanish ones. They don't appear always. It depends of the serever.

asado
- (Roasted. I dunno why.)
chorizo - (More meat parts, used in Argentina as a slang for male parts.)
mala- (Bad, because it means turd in Arab)

If memory serves bollard was censored in GT5 :D I can't remember for sure though so would need confirmation.

Not entirely sure why, you'd have to translate bollard to bitte, then spell it differently before it even became remotely offensive...

"Conrod" as in Conrod Straight at Mt Panorama is also censored.
What the hell is wrong with Conrod Straight? That's what it's called!
It got it's name as an abbreviation for Connecting Rod.
In the early days of racing at Bathurst, you might've got a puncture from running over some poor competitor's that had been sent through the sump it out the side of the block.
If Conrod is offensive, then someone needs to explain to me exactly why.
In the meantime, CONROD, CONROD, CONROD & CONROD.

Why? Because PD.

The Conrod straight got it's name because a conrod failure that occurred during the 1939 Easter race where the car that Frank Kleinig was driving had a, well, a conrod failure.

Also repeating the word conrod on a privately-owned public forum about a video game won't get you anywhere.

It's because it has the word 'con' in it which, as detailed in the posts previous, is a french word for vagina
