I QUIT!!!
It's a dry day in Northern California (where the levees are on the verge of making the Central Valley the next Katrina disaster due to all the rain we've been getting) and the kids are outside playing.
The Champ car race was boring so I thought I'd give it ONE MORE TRY!!!
RM/RM to start, passing AI by the hump in the front straght. Little bit of rubbing, but no penalty.
Good first lap around 6'28ish
Second lap, tires are Ghandi, so I pit. No fuel. RH/RH.
Next three laps are SMOOTH! Fastest lap of 6'24.844. Previous fastest race lap was in the 6'24s as well, but that was on RM/RM in a dirty race.
Pit, RH/RH, get a splash of fuel. Next two laps again smooth! Comfortably running 6'25.xxx laps. Going up the hill to the Agst Kurve on Lap 8 I FRICKIN' RUN OUT OF GAS!!!
AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!
So, take is how you will, but my composite time assuming another 6'25ish lap would've been somewhere around 52'20.XXX being conservative on my pit lap times.
Where are all the other GT500 runners BTW? I agree with VT that these stiffly spring sleds are not suited for the 'Ring. What I would have liked to see is this:
Any number of races of shorter duration making up 8 laps. That way at least you can watch the entire race on replay, and you don't waste an entire race due to a small brainfart or contact. This way I'd race 2 laps on RM, restart, 3 laps on RH, restart, 3 laps on RH. Maybe finish the race in the pit lane so at least you'd need the skillz to smoothly enter... Then add 'em all up. Crash on the second race? No big deal, first race is in the bag, try again, and there you go.
Of course this probably ins't the racing image inteded by this series, but the fact that I can't watch my entire race afterwards to critique and record laps/splits is somewhat a bummer to me. I guess I could always hook up the VCR and record it! :^)
Oh well.
Thanks, Neil, for the distraction and ulcer. Now I'm WAY behind with the Z at ElCap!
