Is it possible to update the game to specII by downloading the update and then moving it via usb stick to the ps3? Where can one find the update? What happens to the specI save, is it usable if saved?

Thank you in advance..:)

no you can't. you have to update in-game.

This is one of my personal gripes with this game and many others, devs seem to think the whole bloody world has their consoles hooked up for online play. Take your heads out of your backsides for gods sake.

I understand your gripes, but on the other hand, the PS3 basically is designed to be online. It even has inbuilt wireless LAN, so getting it online shouldn't be much of a problem or too costly for anyone who has internet access in general.

Agreed. That's not to say some people don't have a perfectly good personal reason for not going online but they're missing out on so much I'd advise anyone who hasn't to give it some serious consideration. Online gaming is the future. In fact it's gotten to the stage where it's the present as it is.

i agree completely net gaming is here and now, but i am saying surely they should consider all of their customers?! Oh well. The only time it will really bother me is if they were to bring along a massive update with tracks and/or cars. Then i would be forced to go and buy a new wireless router.

It would be nice if they would support downloading the updates separate from the game, but I wouldn't be surprised if 99% of people who have a PS3 and GT5P also have internet. In that case it's not that strange that they put no effort in it.

nahh...this internets thing will never catch on. just a passing fad.

/goes back to pole position on atari 2600

Every now and again I get nostalgic and fire up a speccy or amiga emulator and I realise I have no idea what I saw in those games.

Every time they raise the bar it gets harder to go back.

I think you need to separate Gran Turismo and the Playstation here. What I meant is that the Playstation 3 alone is meant to be online by Sony. It is functional when not, but you totally miss out the PS store (demos, videos, buying whole games) and firmware updates. That said, Polyphony designing Gran Turismo implying to have internet access is just natural.

you dont have DSL or know anyone with it? thats very rare

It is irritating that internet on playstation is a 'must' for update :( not good. firmware is downloadable with pc, why not game updates :(

Just a theory

Maybe it's an attempt to stop the clever barstewrads out there hacking their code.

I think the clever bastards would have no problem leeching the update as it's downloaded. ;)

hahaha, i have noticed that too.

we sure do glamourize those games in our heads though.

i though test drive was pretty good on the C64 till i looked at some screen shots recently.

No i didnt say that :). Of course i have Dsl myself, I play my PC games online like GTR2 and others. The problem is my PC and net connection are downstairs while my PS3 is kept in my bedroom nowhere near a connection. This would be fine if i knew of a wireless router that was 100% compatible with my ISP, but i'm not aware of one. Also, the router i do have does not have an ethernet port to connect my PS3 so i really don't have much choice at the moment. Believe me i would love to play GT5 over the net but i am not able to right now, so you can understand why i would be frustrated if a significant update was to come along, remembering that i paid for my game just like everybody else, and i am willing to bet that there is quite a few people in my sort of situation, difference being that they probably wouldn't care.

If anyone can help with a compatible router i am with TalkTalk and they sent us this rubbish little standard router. All the research i did myself found only people who had tried to replace their routers and the new ones just didn't work properly. Anyway, firmwares are available for download to media, so why not game updates? It's already been said, people clever enough to mess with these files will do so if they want to, so i can't understand this small issue of neglect.

oooo i have a good reason why some people dont go online. because cable doesnt reach my house? 7 grand to have the lines extended. Satelite sucks. 56k? ha....ha....AHAHAHAHHAHA! USB update would be amazing....too bad.

may i suggest buying a vga cable so you can use your PC monitors to update the game?

This is definitely true, you can download any of the PS3 firmwares somewhere else, stick them on a stick (or disc) and install them that way.

A router with no ethernet port? That seems odd. Or don't you have a free port? If the latter is the case all you need is a cheap switch to extend the number of ports.

You mean you have a modem from TalkTalk? Most companies usually just send a standard modem with a USB port and an ethernet port. You can simply buy a wireless router and then connect your router to this which can then allow you to share your internet connection wirelessly.

i think its a great idea....

there is no way i can update my PS3 in china because the connection to the outside world is just too damn slow. (even when i'm on a 10Mb DSL Line) any server outside of china will be restricted by the chinese government. the only way to update it is to bring my PS3 all the way back to my HK home and update it from there and its not an easy task.
