Be aware that depending on your connection speed and quality, the time it'll take you to update the game may be from a couple of hours to an entire day (even more)

All the time, if you want to play the seasonal events (They pay a lot of money) and receive a bonus for playing frequently (You'll receive even more money)

But it is not necessary to play, you can update, disconect the console from the internet and continue palying.
