Yes. Because putting a great engine into a car will kill the car.

No, because you will likely get attacked by fanboys from both Ford and Chevy. I have PERSONALLY seen it happen.

Just don't pop the hood then?

Ford engines make a distinct sound lol. Keep one brand in one vehicle and other brand in that vehicle. Don't mix them, if they wanted them mixed they would have built them that way.

Anyways, before I completely freak out, lets see what the OP has to say.

Rednecks . If you have to attack someone over their engine then you must live a sad, lonely, miserable life.

Seriously though, if you're going to modify a car you should always just live by the motto of "🤬 the haters". If someone doesn't like it, that's on them and their narrow mind.

Because someone is passionate about a certain type of car they are automatically rednecks? OH PLEASE

If someone gets that upset over the whole Ford vs. Chevy thing that they actively want to hurt someone, then yes, I'd say they're a redneck and a pretty massive idiot.

Being passionate and being an idiot are two separate things.

I wouldn't say redneck, I'd say just dumb to be honest. I think redneck takes things a little too far.

And yes I agree.

EDIT:

I must say myself though I tend to get VERY upset when things like this come up.

Why? I'm a Toyota fan, but I'm ok when I see AE86s with Nissan motors, or T100s with Chevy motors. There are MR2s out there with the Northstar V8 in them and I find that amazing. If it runs amd puts a smile on the owners face than thats all that matters.

@Op: I think a flappy padel 80's 'stang would be sweet. And any modern four banger or V6 will probably shave some weight off the car. Not sure about old 4 banger vs new V8 weight wise.

I'd be amazed if someone who was willing to resort to violence over what engine you swapped into a 25-year-old base model slushbox Mustang wasn't a redneck of some variety.

The rolleyes smiley would perhaps be more appropriate had you not just proved his point in the other half of your post.

You'd be surprised.

I'm just going to put this out there.

If you could get a digital dash, a ducktail spoiler, and a turbo on that 2.3 (along with a 5 speed) you would have the perfect 80s car. It would have all the "turbo" things for the period. I'm not sure were you would get a digital dash. They probably have them aftermarket, but I think some C4 'vettes and MK2 Supras had them.

I actually think the SHO V6/V8 would be the most unique Ford swap that you could do. A close second would be the T-Bird/Cougar Supercharged 3.8.

It's a good thing you're not into diesels. You'd freak out at all the people that have decided to get rid of the junk Ford and Navistar decided was a good diesel engine to swap with a Cummins from Dodge trucks.

Most of those Ford diesels were International's.

They have to catch you first.

I also know somebody with a SBC swapped Foxbody drag car. He hasn't been lynched at the drag strip yet. Foxbodys aren't rare or anything, you aren't losing anything of historical significance by putting any other motor in one.

I think Slashfan might be the biggest fanboy on this forum. And that's saying something.

Edit: Digital dash would probably be a nightmare to get working, but its not unheard of to use the S2000 cluster in some older Hondas. Could get more complicated going from one make to another (and we definitely don't want no parts that ain't from a Ferd on this here car).

People put American engines in foreign cars because they sound good, and are better. Putting a foreign engine into an American car just ruins it in my opinion.

When people build derby cars they don't put a Toyota or Honda engine, they use 318's, 350's, 460's ect. Beacuse they're bullet proof, mean sounding and easy to work on.

I say use a Chev motor! But the whole debate thing has gotten kind of out-of-hand.. so maybe we should wait for the owner to decide.

Yeah, it wouldn't be fun, but who would need KITT if it all worked?

Actually I guess the good option for a "digital dash" would be like a MoTeC unit. You know, with money not being an issue.

You have no idea what you're talking about.
the only "American motor" I know being used in foreign cars is the LS series, and thats not because it sounds good.
It's relatively cheap, lots of TORQUE, and is usually used in drift cars to make pretty smoke.

I'd rather have a 1UZ V8 a majority of those engines you named.
DOn't get me started with J series motors.

As for Hondas.....Hondas have some of the best motors when it comes to modifications
B16, B18, K20, J series.....

That's why I said almost all....

But all this bickering in the thread. Shouldn't we, the people, let the TS decide what to do with his car?

So, Mr. Thread starter.

What is your intention with the car, your budget, etc etc...

To answer your questions, I was going to give the car the total overhaul, new suspension, engine(moving from a 2.3L to a turbo charged 5.0L), and interior. Fix the body work(as indicated in the OP). Finally, swap out the rear end so that more power actually gets to the ground. Under that plan, I would have spared no expense in getting it done, but it would have taken me several months in getting it done.

Under my new plan, I'm going to stiffen the suspension(so that my 300# butt can actually sit in the car without bouncing), turbocharge the 2.3L engine that is already in there, freshen up the interior, swap out the rear end to get the power to the ground, fix the body work, and finally, give the car new paint. I'm still in the mind set of sparing no expense, but part acquisition will be slow.

Get rid of the 2.3 as quickly as you can. I have years of experience with 2.3T's (Merkur owner twice over) and they are just a pain. It seems like you can replace every single part and it still won't run right. Not only that, but they have the powerband of a diesel engine and sound like a forklift. If I were you, I'd try to get an SHO V6. They are cheap and can easily be made to run longitudinally and can handle a lot of power if you decide to turbocharge.

I know I am, not afraid to admit it. I grew up on Ford.

As I said before, buy a car stick with that brand, no matter what brand it is or "how much better" you think another brand may be.
