Well... I was going to get a Supra, but then my job vanished. I've been hunting for an MX-3 for a few months now and, as luck would have it, my dad is changing his car and will sell me his MX-3...!
 
That's quite lucky, plus you know what you're getting.
I don't really know much about MX-3's so I can't realy comment much.

Slightly changing subject was the 911 GT1 long tail GT Porsche from 98 and 99 powered by a V8. I know that pretty much every other sports car around then was e.g. the Toyota GT1 the Nissan R390, the Mercedes GT1 etc....:confused:
 
What's your fav V8 powered machine then Blue Phoenix?
 
good question i have alot of favs.. to many to list.. i love the 69 GTO Judge or 71 Trans-am with the 455HO or maybe just grabbin a 57 chev and slammin in a 454 or 502 keith black hemi hehehehe maybe a blower and nos.. lol... saw one like that at a car show. basicaly all classic and muscle cars.. not too sure about sports cars yet
 
It's a bit stupid of me asking really, because I knew you were a old school muscle car fanatic from your threads:) , e.g the one in theis cars forum.
The old V8's though in the muscle car era I thought were some of the best. Personally I prefered the Ford 427 out of the lot of V8's running around that era, because as I've said earlier, because they powered the old 427 Shelby Cobra.
BTW fancy becomming a member?
 
haha.. cool, i like that car too.. my friend is tryin to save up for a kit car of one of them.. cuz its almost impossible to get a real one... well unless your rich lol
 
Yeah I heard it's like 70 grand for like an original. My dad built a kit car one, took him two years I think of pretty much solid working time, and if you're freind is thinking about building one, he better be serious, because once you've started there's no turning back- well there is, but it's such a headache and waste of time if you do give up....
 
Wee_man - I guess you're a Brit... Have you seen the series on Discovery Home & Leisure called "A Car Is Born" with the ex-TV-vet Mark Evans (nice surname)? He builds a Cobra replica in that. There's a couple follow-up series - A Race-Car Is Born and A Chopper Is Born - but neither is as fun as watching a grown man realise he knows jack...
 
Factory Five Racing has a kit that looks like the Cobra for about $11,000US. And a kit car that can go to 60 in 3.6 seconds, for only $14,000US :)...
 
wow thats faster then the original car was.. i take it it'd be a 427 as well.. i believe the real cobra could go 0-60 in 4.6? does that sound right
 
I believe Factory Five kit cars use Fox body Mustangs as donor cars, so it would use a 5.0L V8.

Since it's a kit car, you're the one buiding it, so put whatever motor you want in it.
 
Spot on Famine. I've heard about the series, but unfortunatly I don't have cable or sky, so I'm stuck with good old terrestrial and the bbc :rolleyes: . But the bit you said at the end :lol: , that pretty much sounded like my dad when he built the Cobra. Thought he knew it all until he realeased as you said he knew jack...

Blue Pheonix, that sounds closeish for a 427. Thing is even though it has a big powerful engine it's old technology and they just don't go as fast as modern cars.
 
Don't know how fast you are filling up but will my 454 fit in the V8 club still?
So what do we have to do to be in?

so, DGB, wtf all those goodies under the hood of your 'velle are, anyway? more compression? boring? stroking maybe? what did you do to get those 550 horses? :eek:
 
Well the engine was origionally from a 71 Chevelle.(I wish I could have found a 70 LS6. They were underated at 450hp stock) I got it about a year or so ago. When I got it it had recently been rebuilt and had new higher compression heads and a mild cam but the rest was stock. At that time it was getting around 425 to 435 hp. I had higher compression heads installed 10:1 along with new pistons and crank. Cam, lifters and a set of headers to top it off. I also had the tranny rebuilt with a shift kit installed. The carb is a Holley 780 DP/DF. I also rebuilt it. I had a mechanic friend do most of the work this time except for the carb work. He is great at tweeking every last bit of hoursepower available without destroying my budget.
I wish I could give you more info than that but I didn't do the work this time so I don't have all the info. I know he did some block work like boring it out some but Im not sure of the exact #'s. The pitfalls of time limitations. Having someone else do the work and not being exactly sure what he is doing till he calls and says he needs another $500.00 for machine shop work or parts.
Anyway I got out of it cheap and I trust the guy.
 
man i an earlier post he said like 70 grand for a 427 cobra what a bargain,one sold at the barrett jackson auction for like 400 grand last year ,and performance from 0 to 100 back to 0 was like 11 to 13 seconds.
 
Yeah, cobra's are very fast. Only around a ton, with all that power and rear wheel drive to boot :)...
 
Whoa you lot are taking over the club. Nah j/k. Welcome on in DGB454. That sounds like one hell of a ride you've got there. Is work still on going to your Chevelle? Also if you could put something like "member of the V8 club" or something like that in your sig, then that would make me happy. Otherwise don't worry about it.

musclecarfan the quote I gave on original cobra's was based on something I had seen on TV about them years ago, so that figure I gave could be a little outdated. Auctions though tend to be really over priced and expensive. For the rich and famous kind of thing (well I'm talking about the auctions which deal in exoctic supercars, not your every day auction).;)

But yeah as Frustrated said they are very fast, and for their day there was really nothing else on the road for their price that could even come near. The originals could rip ya balls off they were that quick ;) .
 
I was wondering what it took to be part of this club? Does my 63 chevy 2 with 327 bored 30 over turbo 350 tranny ford nine inch rear count ?my dodge 4x4 360 V8 ,and i have a 50 chevy fleetline soon to be a V8 in the works.:odd:
 
All you needed to do was ask and love V8's :) . Welcome on in. Although that is a pretty impressive line up you have there.
 
Okay the next member to want to join gets to have to all exclusive and impressive titly of #V8. So don't all rush at once. Although I am also alowing the number six member to be known as V6, the number tenth member to be known as V10 and the same goes for the twelth, even though it's a V8 fanc club :rolleyes: . Hell I have to give people some incentive to join.:D

heeeeeeeeeeeeeey!!!!! that 63 Chev sounds sweet!!!! labor? whats best, pics??? something like that!!! tell us what else you got there!!!! come on, you have a car THAT cool, and you ask if you can join??? Id have at least 10 posts on the forum about my car if I had something like that!!! same for DGB454... gawd, I cant see why you ask so much... your rides rule!!!

yeah well i'd prefer to have a 427 that rumbles the road your driving on then a car that sounds like a sewing machine.. its just my taste and theres nothing wrong with that.. its not really speed to me.. its what they look like and the overall ride.
 
Same for me pretty much. Though if it's got speed as well that helps ;) .
